Play Nice Héritier Lumumba blasts Collingwood's racist treatment of him during his career (Civil discussion please)

I think this kind of sums up AFL guys like Eddie:

“I continually try to reach out to Heritier. In fact, earlier this year I was in Los Angeles and tried to find him, because I want to bring him home to give him a Life Membership at the Collingwood Football Club."

The delusions of grandeur that come out of the AFL are just grotesque sometimes.

This comment sort of implies that the issue of a player's racist treatment can be taken care of with a footy club life membership??!

How it is even relevant?

If the NBA was on LeBron would be bringing it up at press conferences, talking about how in 2012 the Heat had their hoodies up on solidarity with Tryvon Martin, Dame would be talking about the song he just rapped on, and they'd all be wearing their "I can't breath" shirts that they wore years ago. That's making headlines surely.
Le Bron James is a fraud and he lost me by the way he handled Daryl Morey tweet situation last year.

He had the perfect opportunity to speak up about human right abuses but squibbed it.

Why is it OK to push his agenda about human rights issues in the US but not in China?

He'll speak up as long as it doesn't cost him money and jeopadize the NBA's market share in China, that's why.

All about the dollar.

Fraud.

I really admired H the player, loved watching him, did the odd stupid thing but when you consider where he came from ie via the rookie list, its was an outstanding playing career.

But I have grown very tired of his outbursts that seem to serve no purpose other than 'look at me'. I think he needs help and I hope he gets it.

But I do enjoy seeing the most 'woke' president and coach in the AFL get called out, its kind of amusing when those who lecture us on how to behave get called out. Is Eddie a racist? No. Is he a loud mouthed idiot who has an over-rated opinion of himself? Yes. Is Bucks a racist? No, he is just not terribly intelligent.

I hate the circus the AFL has become, I hardly read or listen to anything on it anymore but back when I was a Pies nut H was one of my faves so I had a read and ultimately a laugh at how stupid and pathetic this has all become.

He hid his heartbreak and depression really well for many years. He danced off the stage on one jumper presentation night and celebrated the premiership with the rest of the team as though he didn't think they were hateful racists. Hugging and high fiving and grinning from ear to ear as though he was actually ecstatic and enjoying their company. Amazing performance. And to keep it up for 8 years is particularly impressive.
That is a stupid comment.
Robin Williams was a comedian, jovial in the public eye 24/7.
He killed himself.
Spud Frawley the same.
Perception and reality are never the same.
Proud people Hide there hurt to their own detriment.
Speaking out is hard especially when you know people like yourself are waiting on your keyboard to throw shit at you.
Sad really.

The title of this thread is not an accurate reflection of Lumumba's letter.

His letter is about asking/challenging his former teammates to be actively anti-racist, and he is saying that Collingwood and the AFL did not handle the racism that he received appropriately.

He doesn't "blast" Collingwood for their treatment of him, nor does he say that Collingwood were racist in their treatment of him. He's challenging his ex-teammates to act on the failure to meet racism head-on when it occurred.

Let's not beat this up for what it's not.

It's in his statement which I attached, but in case that's not showing up for whatever reason, the nickname was "chimp"
Chimp?

ahhhh . Yeah that’s pretty farkn bad hey...

.roll in the dumb right wing guys talking about how comparing people to animals is not necessarily racist. Arghhh. Bigfooty has too many numpties

If it wasn't for the endless trumpeting of women as oppressed victims I on forums I would never raise the issues.

We were talking about something completely different actually, but you took that millimeter of an opening and ran with it.

Straight white men have it so tough.
Imagine being so indoctrinated that you say completely stupid shit like this.

It’s like you have no idea how hypocritical and self loathing it is.

Everybody has different privileges in life, and race is a very small part of it.

Hell, you can have more money, better parents, better psychological constitution, better looking etc etc

I know a bloke who is the son of an NFL legend who says the exact same shit while he wipes his ass with 20 dollar notes.

I don’t even know why I’m bothering to reply. You’ll loathe people who have white skin and a **** for the rest of your life.

How is it self loathing when I'm not a straight white male?

Who does he think he is trying to tell others what to do/how to act? If he experienced racism that is not right, but how dare he think he is above everyone and can instruct them how to live their lives

... By telling them not to be racist?

Gee we have ourselves a stalemate going on here.
