Do you think some of uswould say these things if it was as simple as that?

Was not referring to you was referring to the us meaning yes there are people that do say these things as if it is as simple as that . There are a few chicken littles on this board that just simply can not stay away from the doom and gloom .

People need to take a step back and stop making irrational uneducated views on Dustin Martin. Whilst your posts are an opinion, some are judging the man without any hard facts and most of the comments made are unwarranted.
It is known that the male will not fully develop maturity until he is at least 25 years of age. Dustin is only 21 years old and does not live an ordinary life and work a 9-5 job like i would assume many on here would do. You have to be mindful of the fact that that Dustin coming into the AFL system went from working extremely hard labouring to an industry where they pay a lot of money for what you do. In only his third year he was earning over $500,000 a year, that is a substantial amount of money to be earning for playing a sport that you love and not having a contingency plan if all were to fail.
Yes, whilst he may have fallen in with the wrong crowd and made a couple of errors in his decision making, there is no evidence and i highly doubt any person posting on here has evidence (other than word of mouth) that Dustin has used or has an addiction to any illicit drugs.
Instead of trying to be Sherlock Holmes and uncover something that most likely never happened, why don't you support Dustin and stop speaking absolute nonsense about wanting to trade him.
He is simply a young adult who has a lot of money at the age of 21 and has a lot of spare time after training, meetings, matches etc and needs to be educated on life after football, which is something I am sure the Richmond Football Club are doing.
I am sure he will have an absolute cracking 2013 and the majority of you who have posted negative things about him will be singing his praises.

Foley is one of the most loyal players we have.

Martin can be top 5 in the league. he wont even hit his peak for 5 years.

Can you imagine Dustin Martin at 26yo - an absolute weapon, dominating clearances and kick 30-40 goals a year. A grown up who laughs about his 'indiscretions' when he younger, and how much he loves his footy and is focussed on his career.

Then imagine him lifting his second premiership cup....

......for Collingwood.

Seriously some people on this site need to pull their heads right in. Dusty has everything he needs to be a top 5 player in the league except maturity. Gee wonder where that comes from?!?! Trading him now for anything less than two top ten picks in a superdraft would be insane, and I guarantee ya that won't happen.

Be grateful the kid plays for us and enjoy the ride!

I know buddy

My thoughts on Dusty.....I think he is slightly overrated for how he is being played by the club. His tank, field kicking and defensive side let him down as an A grade midfielder.

I think the club is trying to fine him down and work on his tank to fix some of these deficiencies. I would like to see the club bulk him up and play to his strengths, make him primarily a forward and occasional burst midfielder. An improved version of Stewart Dew. He could be awesome if we don't try and make him like everyone else, I think he might enjoy his footy more as well.

Stewart Dew??????????????? heck me dead!
He went past mud guts 2 years ago. How about an improved version of Leigh Matthews?

Perhaps I did low ball that one, but an improved version of Leigh Mathews might be stretching it. If Dusty retired tomorrow I reckon mud guts would have his measure being a match winner in the Hawks last flag. His burst strength and super boot has parallels with Dusty. My Point being don't try and make Dusty a grey hound.

We'd get very little if we traded either, and largely for the same reasons.

If we offered them up for trade, other clubs would assume we'd given up on them/written them off.

Personally, I'd rather take the risk on both of them than trade them for steak knives.

Of course, if someone else came sniffing around...That could be a different story.

Can't see anything wrong with Dusty's field kicking , for me he isn't overrated, I just like him in the forward line versus midfield where he can make a bigger impact on the talent he possesses plus it would make him more durable. With V drafted Dusty can play up forward more. It would also allow Cotch more in the middle rest middle etc although at times Cotch can slip forward to. Dusty could be FF but due to the length on his kicking, dual side, and general mobility I would like to see Dusty at CHF with Griff on a forward flank( as a part decoy bombing goals from 60+ out on the angles). I also like Lids at FF at times rotating from the wing with JR coming from the right pocket. For this to work Lids needs to get a more relaxed smoother motion kicking in front of goal though

Dusty would b a revelation at chf but it appears they r runting him up to play midfield.

Dustys real strength is his brute strength and i dont agree this approach.

Id prefer to hav him as a power forward that rotates through mid not a marathon runner mid .

I've got no problems turning him into a grey hound. The game is getting quicker and quicker. Anyone that thinks Dusty is better spending more time up forward rather than running through the middle I dare you to watch the Tigers V Hawks game from this year. 10 goal victory and it was the Dusty and Cotchin show running through the corridor.

The guy is a freak and has only played 3 seasons. Can't wait to see his fourth.

I don't think improving his running capacity will effect his natural strength, I could be wrong however as I am completely clueless in this area.

The conditioning staff would be aiming to significantly increase his running capacity, whilst probably would be happy to maintain his core strength, or keep it near current level.

I think you are right in what the conditioning staff are trying to do. IMO playing to his strength would be a better way to go. I've not seen many good Mouri marathon runners, but plenty of Mouri brutes.

Watched an ESPN documentary on a freakishly talented basketballer John Herron last night. I reckon a few people here should view it. Maybe a touch extreme? I don't know, but it shows a real picture of consequences for actions.

The ESPN docos are ****ing great viewing

I was knackered, but could not stop watching it. Watch it, and get back to me on it, and see if you get my point on it.

Why would we trade the kid in which Sydney were offering 2 high first rounders for, Malthouse come out and say in 2011 directly after our game against them and say Martin is the best kid in the comp and would be the first youngster he'd pick over anyone else.

Martin is something special, it's not often you come across someone who has every weapon to be a champion player, people forget that statistically his 2012 was better then his previous 2, sure he kicked less goals but he was up on pretty much every other stat, people's expectations were way to high after his first 2 years.

Sure, he may have some behavioral issues off field that are being dealt with, but nothing I'm sure the club are thinking would be serious enough to trade him for.

It's not often kids come in to the AFL and are compared to Leigh Matthews and Darren Millane.

Dustin will scare other teams for the next ten years. We need that.

Theres a big difference between a marathon runner and someone who can cover the ground well (even really well), but still play frequent burst football. They'll never want Dusty to cover the ground like Grigg. But they do want him to cover the ground more than what he can now.
