Huge win for Freo and puts Freo's midfield as the clear No.1 in the comp.
Seems many posters want this to fail knowing there club can't get him, this kid is no Garlett.
Personally not pleased with this result as a WC supporter.

But probably more a realisation that they couldn't afford McCarthy anyway, and they didn't want to miss out on both of them.
Does that mean we can get him for next to nothing in a year or two?
Depends if he is still homesick.
He also couldn't get Sylvia and Simpson on track.
I think it is more about the player rather than the coach. Hopefully Bennell keeps his nose clean and we can have a center line of Hill, Fyfe, Bennell......

Best of luck to Freo and HB, I think a lot of people are forgetting the culture Lyon let fester at St Kilda, and the issues Fremantle have had with there own players,, not looking good.
No guarantees McCarthy can be an elite KPF and have to sell the farm to get him.
No guarantees that a clearly elite bennell will keep his nose clean but can likely get him for unders.
Seems to have their priorities right.

If I was Fremantle, I'd take Bennell and then try and poach McCarthy again next year - "Sorry mate, but your club just wouldn't do a fair deal. We'll try again next year when you're a year closer to the end of your contract." - and hope he continues to develop in the meantime.
Get bennell and push fyfe forward = KPF.
Can continue to chase genuine KPF (not sure McCarthy is this).

Great result if they can get it done with GC, no doubt.
I'm not sure I agree with regards to their midfield.
Fyfe, Mundy and Neale......then who? Hill and Pearce are ok on the wing but rarely sniff the centre square.
Pretty shallow now that Barlow seems to have dropped of so much.

if you give up one of your best players, a v high draft pick and pay his contract while he's playing for another club, you can get just about anybody
Personally hearing the stories of his Mum saying he needs to get away from WA and the negative influences he has there, any non WA team I would of been fine (though who the f*** am I or my opinion relevant to him).
But he is a grown man and is capable of making his own decisions, whether they be positive or negative.
Fyfe, Mundy, Bennell and Neale rotating looks impressive. 3 A graders & 1 B grader plus Hill on the outside and Sandi in the ruck, will more than match every other midfield.
