Harmes - historical footage

ChatGPT says it was out, so that settles it really:

Replays of the incident show that the ball appeared to have crossed the boundary line before Harmes made contact with it, and the umpire did not appear to have a clear view of the incident. However, as there was no video review system in place at the time, the goal was allowed to stand, and Carlton went on to win the game by 5 points.

The incident remains controversial to this day, and opinions on whether the ball went out of bounds or not are divided among fans and commentators. However, the result of the game has never been officially overturned, and Carlton remains the 1979 VFL premiers.

Was this the year where the Channel 7 cameramen who usually did the football went on strike, and 7 had to rely on their executives to man the cameras in order to make sure that the live telecast went ahead?

i think collingwood and carlton each time they play play for the 1979 premiership cup.
Like who wins has it until one other team beats them.
Say colliingwood beat carlton this sunday they keep it until carlton beats collingwood.
Sounds like a great idea.
At least we can have it for a time say.
This is like the loser of a bet saying "hey... best of three"?

Libba snr playing football is the biggest injustice in the history of the game.

Scratchers and pinches do not belong in this game

To be fair he only really did that late in his career.

AI starts perfecting deep fakes.

Nek Minnit - "footage shows ball was in in famous Harmes moment".

Coincidence? Wake up Sheeple!

The Harmes incident didn't cost Collingwood the game, even if the ball was out.

They were 27 points up about 20 minutes into the second term, and the Blues hadn't kicked a goal at all. This was on a soggy MCG (it's being kind to call it that, it was atrocious in places), which had been made even worse by the prior games played on it that day. And yet somehow Collingwood let the Blues kick 5 goals before half-time to square the game up.

That's where Collingwood lost the game.

That we know of, early in his career the players code was not to 'dob' in someone like him.

Makes you wonder what type of a person goes into a game with that type of mindset, it's real bottom of the barrel stuff.
His early career should be celebrated for beating all the odds. Later in his career did somethings that should not celebrated and he got nailed for them.

He was a great player, no doubt about it and no argument from me.

But it wasn't a case of an isolated incident, he was doing that crap over a very long period of time.

Real scum act, but no one forced him to do it, it was his choice and he will always be remembered for it. Absolute scum.

I distinctly remember seeing a photo of Paul Kelly with the welts on his body after the Swans played the Bulldogs, said welts received courtesy of Liberatore. I think it was in the local press here in Sydney. It may have been after the 1997 clash, which gained notoriety due to Kelly's treatment that day.

And is if that wasn’t painful enough we thought we’d replicate it perfectly in 2018

That you did. :( Even to the extent that the final score, as in 1979, was 11 goals apiece.

Got a bit disappointed when I opened this thread - though it was going to be about James' 2019 Round 7 masterclass, where he collected 31 disposals, five tackles, and a goal while playing a tagging role and shut down OMeara. Turns out it's just some old Catlton bloke.

Alex Jesaulenko who was the captain-coach of Carlton (remember when we used to have captain-coach in the game?) was the one who actually made the match winning move to put Wayne Harmes in the centre, which really got the Blues moving. How Wayne Johnston did not win the first Norm Smith Medal awarded in 1979 still amazes me. The late Lou Richards who was calling the game for Seven said that Carlton made a lot of other moves in the game, but the crucial one was sending Harmes into the midfield.

I never said it was isolated incident. All the bad vibe against Libba is at the back end of his career.
