5 minimum for me, but I want more. Watching live, my instant gut reaction was deliberate. He knew he was beaten in that contest and decided to ‘make him earn it’. Watching full speed replays, slow mo, stills, all confirmed my initial thoughts. His attitude afterward was disgusting. There is no way known he didn’t intend to hurt Harris.

Much more force than the Bugg incident though.

But it was in the play and Cameron was protecting himself. He just did it the wrong way. I don't think his intention was to make contact to Andrews face. Unlike the Bugg incident.

I agree, I think it will be graded as Reckless, but it will be the severity of the contact that will determine the outcome.

its not just Harris that is effected - the whole of our young group, particularly those living with Harris, will be effected. It won't stop them playing but for at least a short while they will surely be a little nervous at times on the field. And any slight hesitation costs us during games.

And I reckon those that have experienced Justin and Harris would have occasional 'that could be' me thoughts. Players like Zorko or beams that arent really going to be part of a major finals campaign and have young kids might start thinking a bit more about life after footy. Zorko came in late so knows that there is life outside footy, and beams is already struggling.

This quote is from the on field interview immediately after the game. The highlighted portion is very damming for Cameron.

"It was unfortunate I hit him in the head. I definitely didn't want to hurt him like that."

My interpretation of that is, Yer I wanted to hurt him but not in the head, INTENTIONAL!

I think that's exactly what happened. He wanted to him hard with his body but in protecting himself he panicked and raised his elbow. Even without the head contact it would be worth a couple of weeks. The head contact was reckless though.

I disagree jack, no way that is a defensive/protection act, it was an attacking act, meant to hurt as Cameron admitted IMO.

He knew he was going to be 2nd to the ball and knew where to expect contact. No one ever protects themself by cocking their forearm. You are off the mark IMO, Jackess.

He obviously didn't mean to hurt Andrews so badly, but I 100% guarantee Cameron went into the contest to "make him earn it".

So as I said in another thread, if you play with fire, eventually you will get burnt.

The "make him earn it" ethos shouldn't be a defense for reckless actions, especially when it results in such serious injuries.

TBH, i used to think AFL would be a safer sport for my kids to play than the other footy codes (union and league), but if the AFL doesn't take some serious action to stamp out shit like what Cameron did, what May and Mumford have done in previous years, then i truly am going to question that POV.

6 weeks minimum. It was foul play which resulted in a guy getting internal bleeding on his brain. That shit should be stamped out.

If you can prove he deliberately hit him in the head it's worth 10+ weeks but I don't believe he made a decision to try to elbow him in the head which makes that part more reckless than incident and pushed it down to the 4-6 week range.

Alastair Lynch got 11 weeks for his hit in the 2004 grand final (was his last game anyway). I think Cameron should be suspended for the remainder of the season, however long that is for the Giants.

Back to fuming again. I posted on the Brisbane Lions facebook post yesterday about how we need to make a formal statement calling out this nonsense play and advocating a stronger penalty, since we lost Justin Clarke and now HA is in hospital for a brain injury. Someone called me out for 'jumping the gun on the brain injury bit'. Far out people, this is exactly why. You just don't know how bad it's going to be, but going to hospital 24 hours after an incident with deteriorating conditions is concern enough.

All the best for Harris. hope he recovers I cannot see the lions rushing him back.

Cameron should get 8-10 weeks although seeing GWS is a AFL club he probably get off..

I reckon most of us would consider it intentional.
But I think the AFL will grade it as Reckless with severe contact to the head which is what will push it to 6 weeks.
If they grade it high probably more like 4 weeks.
I am hoping it will be 6 weeks.

Let's see how accurate I prove to be: 3 weeks downgraded to 2 with a guilty plea.

Remember- it is GWS.

I havent hit the angry zone yet - but if your prediction is correct that will change. I went to the giants board yesterday and there are so few contributors to any thread. Their pregame thread was two pages long and indicates to me just how few real fans they have.

And this makes your prediction a real possibility. If they make finals they can start to attract real fans, but miss and there will be no growth and possible losses. That said - it is not right that the tribunal is infliuenced by a marketing decision. Cameron made a split second decision to make the best defender in the competition hurt and it was more 'successful' than he intended. 8 weeks is appropriate.

I agree in part that he wasn't in intentionally aiming for his head. But, I am not sure even Cameron knew where he was aiming. Which means hitting Andrews in the head became a possibility. So in that case, i think it is not an excuse to say, "he wasn't aiming for his head".

I'd argue it's a bit like driving a car and deciding to close your eyes.... just because you don't know where the car is going, doesn't mean it's no longer your responsibility if you hit and kill someone. I'd argue there is little difference between that and someone intentionally doing it.

It's not an excuse but in the comparison to Bugg hitting Mills it goes in Cameron's favour that it wasn't as bad which is why I find it hard to see him getting more than 6 weeks which is what Bugg got.

Really though? take a look at the stills and the replay, he saw him unprotected and the eyes go straight to his face and he ***** his elbow. Both feet leave the ground, if he wanted to protect himself, he would have lowered his head and tucked in to protect his chest for impact. He had a rush of blood and took a guy out, simple.

If this is career ending, Brisbane have lost two potential AA KPDs in a few years.
Also, if Harris is forced to retire, surely Brisbane get PP1.
This is obviously beside the point that hopefully Harris is okay, and he (as a person) is way more important than AFL.

If it's that simple then he gets a 10-12 week suspension but I don't think it is and I don't think anyone expects a suspension that severe.

Also IIRC he hid lower his head to try and protect himself.
