Harvey gone

I lost a lot of faith in Harvey this season. The 'just hold the fort' routine that started in round 1 drove me insane. We effectively wasted an entire season.

All year, we have all been talking about getting some really good assistant coaches in to support Harvey. The club had the opportunity to go one better and took it.

I'm disappointed with the way the club handled the situation - though I'm always disappointed with the clubs way of handling things! - but I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

Big call there. We had at least made the finals 3 times in the last 10 years. richmond hasnt played finals since 2001 and has only played finals in 1995 and 2001 since 1982.

Its was a ruthless move. Then again since your a hawks fan. Hawthorn did some ruthless things by culling their playing list at the end of 2004 and it worked out well in 2008.:thumbsu:

There is nothing wrong in doing a culling - it's the way the culling is done and this is so far removed from that scenario it's irrelevant.

I did, during the year say to a friend who is a long time docker member that they needed to get a new coach as I didn't think he was the right fit for the club and that the players were never going to have a winning mindset as long as Harvey was at the club. Like I said, I have no problem with them letting him go - but for him to be treated this poorly is unwarranted and the board should hang their heads in shame.

I'm starting to think that there wasn't much other option to do things the way they were done. Both coaches had the same manager. It would have been very difficult to conduct business through the normal channels without it being all over the media.

This is basically how I felt. I wouldn't have sacked Harvey for it, but the club went one better than I imagined, and lined up a better replacement.

I don't think the club would've sacked Harvey either but the planets aligned somewhat with Lyon having an opt out clause on his current deal. If Lyon didn't have that option, Harvey would still be our coach.

If the Eagles fail to win their final Saturday, the Dockers will have performed better than the Eagles over the last three years.

(Just putting it out there).
well pat yourself on the back! I guess this is what your trying say.... not only did we finish 16th last year but we were also in the lower half the year before so you are admitting that you also have sucked just as much as us (in the previous seasons), think before you speak, i lost intelligence just reading the dribble on your column

Agree that if we start winning a lot of games everyone will embrace Ross Lyon. I do believe this is a big move by the club and it is better to make a big move then no move. On sports news first they are claiming that Harvey has been talking to other clubs about moving out. Hope all is explained at the press conference.

I HATE watching St Kilda play but I am a bit excited I must say.

This is indeed a very bold move that the Fremantle Football Club has been destined to do to achieve the results that their line up deserves. As regards to the brand of football they (the fremantle dockers) will play then perhaps the fickle supporters should take a glance back in time. West Coast Eagles under Mick Malthouse were the most defensive team of the 90's yet at Collingwood he has coached the most aggressive team this year. Coaches usually change the game plan to the players strong points, past practices mean nothing if you have played football above school grade you would all know this.

Two GFs with an ordinary list. Both of which he could have won.

But he didn't win. I guess you are the type of person that pats folks on the back for coming second. Yawn.. You obviously have never won a thing in your life as a sportswomen perhaps.

I don't understand how this has blown up so much. And it is a piss poor way to welcome a new coach to a club by protesting outside the clubrooms and threatening to hand in your memberships. Ultimately there is only one way to sack a coach and that is to say your fired. There is no right or wrong way. Is the negative PR going to hurt us? And the whole loyalty argument is ridiculous. Ross Lyon has been involved at four clubs, which one should he be loyal to?

Whats done is done and you either support the Fremantle Football Club or you don't.

Jeez I just read through the first 10 pages and some of the meltdowns were unbelievable (I had a pretty good one myself although not on here). I bet everyone who criticised the appointment of Ross will be willing to eat their words.

What the **** brought that on ?

Someone posted the link in another thread.

thank **** we dodged the complete failure that would have been watters.

i think i had a meltdown and said something about only a flag would make this right- happy to say I was wrong, a flag may be closer than ever but it is the certainty of knowing that our players always bring great effort (except against st kilda) that I enjoy. I love watching games and knowing we will prevail when we have a lead at 3/4 time, i love sleeping through the first qtr (they start early over here) being able to wake up and know its all ok before I turn the laptop on. Like everyone of us I hope/pray that we can go all the way this year but I am sure I am not alone in saying this was the greatest day in the clubs history (maybe after various events including in the lives of the pav and the fyfe.

in rtb we trust.

The ascension of the Steves was the best thing that happened to our club. No doubt.

They deserve a statue after what they have achieved with the re-branding of the club and recruitment of Lyon.

Freo have gone from one of the most ridiculed clubs to one of the most respected, on and off the field.

Does anybody still hanker for the old days of the big white anchor and Drum/Connolly/Harvey?

Sad indeed..Welcome to a 52 point total game score boys.

Isn't it amazing that we still get this crap regurgitated by the bitter aints fans, plugger and Defacto etc.

Lyon was the gatekeeper at Seaford and he had the master key, head of recruiting, finances, boot locker and list manager. Completely different structure here, and look where we are now.

Whoa, solid bump matey

What the **** brought that on ?

Yeah I saw a link in another thread and thought it was fitting. It's always good to reflect upon things.

I actually understand why done posters had meltdowns or were quietly cautious of the move and now hindsight it a wonderful thing.

I still remember the day when a couple of old ducks protested down at Freo oval. I hope they will be a live to see Pav n Ross hold up the cup. No excuses this is Freos year if they want it bad enough.

They don't do it out of good will they do it out of spite. While St. Kilda are still trying to rebuild Fremantle are on top and each draft they try and pick up quality youth for the future. See Blakely and Weller.

I remember going out the night of the announcement and celebrating with a long standing freo member and friend... people thought we were hard and mean and all sorts of other rubbish. We mentioned the grand payout harvey would receive and continued celebrating. One of the best decisions we have made in our clubs history.
