Has Laidley 'lost' the players?

no if we all become members maybe the board will think laidley is doing a good job when he isnt when we have the horse next year ill pay to be a member ill possibly buy 2!

I really hope I never have the pleasure of sitting next to you at the footy.

Save your money bandwagoner!

Our squad (while it has potential) is so far away from the quality of the top sides it's not funny. This won't change under a new coach. .
I find this fascinating. Your saying that the coach doesn't have a say in how good his squad is? Isn't he the one who puts his squad together? Drafts the right players and make decent trades (in our case doesn't make good trades).
Isn't the coach also the man who then helps these boys to develop?

I also question the impact of the ongoing dramas about the Gold Coast, and the extra travel that the squad has undergone over the past few years. I'm sure studies will say that travel has a negative impact on performance, and I'm sure there isn't a player that feels truly secure about his future at the club while the specualtion continues. That's not going to change under a new coach..
Interstate teams travel all the time. They also finish in the 8 most years. Travel hasn't affected them that much i wouldn't think.

But I don't think anyone should be under the impression that if and when we do change the coach that everything will be rosy again.
Yes i agree with you here. I doubt that any clear thinking person believes that things will be rosy in 2007 no matter what happens however a lot of us would like to think that 2007 is not just another wasted year as 2006 clearly was. A new coach brings a new direction. A new vision. Fresh ideas. Players always get a boost from a new coach taking over. That has happened all through history. Doesn't mean they win but they do get a new sense of confidence. I would settle for that at this stage.

A fresh approach.
Hopefully a man who can get into the minds of his players and help them perform to their full potential. I doubt we would have many players at all playing to their full potential.

No, I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that a new coach will be working with the same group of players who IMO are years away from peaking (as a unit). Try and remember too that this thread is not about keeping Laids in a job, it is more about the expectations of what a change will do.

I would suggest that the interstate sides that finish in the top 8 do so despite the travel. They tend to have excellent medical and recovery facilities and all have legitimate claims to having the strongest squads in the league. We don't have that luxury.

The North crowd all started booing then and kept it up until half time. Even the cheer squad, and they are generally the biggest do or die supporters of what the team's doing. We could all see the advances of 2007 so far disappearing and a return to the past couple of years of ugly and ineffective football. I don't really care if it's Laidley's instructions or the players - either way it is crap to watch, it doesn't win games or give hope, and has to stop. And completely agree that it's much easier to see the team go down through the inexperience of new players than the stupidity of older ones.

Oh no! But you told me just how much 'as a North member' I had to look forward to. :p

In fact, you actually said that should attend the games so I could see this for myself. And that Wayne should also attend the games because as he didn't see North, he didn't know what he was talking about.

I am sick to death of moderators or other posters looking at my NAME and then deciding whatever I have said they don't agree with it.

I will say it again. To lose a game after being 6-7 goals in front- to a team that 'won' not only last year's wooden spoon, but also the previous year's wooden spoon - and then lose the game in the first round in the same manner is not only very disheartening, it is a mystery.

And this was after the match committee decided that North needed to begin training from September last year, to overcome - supposedly - our last quarter fadeouts.

It was the trend I was commenting on, not an individual game, but you couldn't or wouldn't see that. You only saw my name and then responded.

Oh and btw Carey does have a brilliant football brain. That point is not debatable unless you are a North supporter who has decided that Carey 'ripped the heart from the North footy club'. Outside the club his football expertise is well acknowledged.

What is debatable is what influence he could have at the club, should he wish to return. I am of the opinion that I want all former players & officials to be able to return to North any time that they wish to.

They have all been a part of North's wonderful history.

Beautifully written RB spot on with your opinion on this one.

Let's see if you can comprehend what I actually say, not what YOU think I say.

The moderator responded to one of my posts - prior to the Hawthorn game - by telling me, essentially that I should go to the games to get an 'informed opinion' and that Wayne didn't know what he was talking about because he didn't see North games.

MY response - have a look at just how many 'happy' North supporters were are after the Hawthorn game and how 'happy' they were with our game plan and coaching.

WHY in their own words, and posted on this forum did North supporters jeer their own team?

Perhaps it was in the words of the moderator 'something North supporters should look forward to'.

And perhaps I also don't like being accused of calling a poster an 'intellectual runt' that is - you - when I did not.

I replied to a post that already had those words in it- no, not one of your posts.

IN OTHER WORDS, I NEVER USED THOSE WORDS.

I hope that is clear. And perhaps the even-handed moderator would do well to actually read my post.

Michelle, no-one cares. Really, no-one reads your stuff without the Benny Hill theme song suddenly being played in their heads.

Please go away.

Sometimes brilliant players make very poor coaches because what makes them brilliant is intuitive, it cannot be taught. Who at our club has a Carey physique? We need someone who is a good communicator, who understands the game and can help these kids achieve their potential.

Michele, what does Carlton winning the wooden spoon last year have to do with this years loss to them on the Gold Coast. You do know that teams can change and improve over the pre-season.
Using your logic we shouldnt have beaten the Dockers but we did.

My goodness, I have another one.

DarwinRoo, Carlton won back-to-back wooden spoons. To me that would suggest, that the team is struggling at the moment. Never said, suggested, implied or inferred that Carlton would be on the bottom forever.

And by using your logic, the Weagles - although Premiers last year - could definitely struggle this year.

And btw for the millionth time, it was NOT that North lost to Carlton, but North were leading by 6-7 goals and were beaten.
That suggests a 42 + turnaround to Carlton.
Carlton were more desperate for the ball and it showed.

How does Carltons 2005 form reflect on their 2007 season? Arent Carlton allowed to improve?

I certainly dont see why a teams previous seasons should be the barometer on how you rate a team. Its a whole new season. new players come in, dud players go, younger players are more mature and confident, players who struggled through injuries might be fully fit.

Obviously the Eagles arent struggling but give them some injuries to key players, some of there kids not stepping up when needed, players out of form. Yes even the team that won last years Premiership could struggle.
