Has Laidley lost the players?

I think the club may have lost the players a bit as well with their handling of the "chickengate" fiasco. Publicly humiliating the entire group over a silly prank and allowing the media to brand them in the worst possible way probably hasn't inspired the players to give their very best for the club.

This is a good point. As much as I subscribe to the 'A true competitor will try his guts out no matter how much he hates the coach' theory, that episode cannot have helped. Especially for the boys who had no direct part in the making of the film, to be hung out there to dry as if they had committed some callous crime against humanity -- it could well have been a little disillusioning and this could well be playing some part in what we are seeing.

whatever game plan the roos have at the moment.
is not working at all.
we dont have the skill to run the ball up the ground and hit targets all the way up.
laidley should probably go but until recently he has done alright with the club considering our list... but i agree with the fact that we missed that rebuild stage that the hawks have done.

Interesting, thanks Roosurgence.

You can hear it now... "Get him off. What the f@#$ does he think he's doing, providing leads, taking contested marks, kicking goals? I won't have that sort of thing going on in MY team."

Anyways, yes I agree with the OP. Laidley's lost the players, or their confidence is simply down. They are better than they are playing now, individually and collectively, and it is an attitude issue. The only question is whether the coach has contributed to this, or is simply unable to encourage a shift. (AND, I'm not saying that the players don't have responsibility too.)

I get disillusioned every time I hear Laidley speak publicly; what must it be like for the players who have to hear this shit regularly?
Watching the box, just saw Michael Shithouse tearing huge strips off Anthony who was dragged for giving away 50.
Dean must get this from MM as Anthony is probably "getting too big for MM's liking".
They both love to have 22 average footballers make them look fantastic.

To the bin for both of them, football deserves better than these defensive ego assholes.

That may be right in hindsight, but from a CEO and Chairman who'd never been in a crisis like that before I think they handled it as best they could.

The reception Danny Daly copped in the Victory Room last night was also a sign that the coaches have lost the members. Swallow was applauded for his comments and Daly was heckled by several members when he started quoting from Dean Laidley's "Great Book of 1000 Excuses."

What did Swallow say, out of interest?

That Chadwiko is like the best North Supporter ever.:thumbsu:

Mainly that we had turned the ball over far too much. He said our turnovers had allowed them to kick about 13 or 14 goals. That we had tried to play a riskier brand of footy and it might have worked if we hadn't stuffed up so much. He copped it on the chin to the plaudits of the crowd.

Then Danny Daly came on with a "what you people have got to realise is...." attitude straight from the Geoff Walsh school of how to win over the members. Let's just say he wasn't going to win the crowd by mentioning injuries, or the number of young, inexperienced players we had out there. [We were there Danny!]

Then he tried to recover by saying Simmo had 33 possessions. That just ensured more heckling such as "yeah, but where did they all go?" I doubt that he'll be lining up to return to the Victory Room after our next loss.

After round 20 last year, we had six wins on the trot and a top 4 spot in our grasp. We looked like a bloody good side that was going somewhere. Since then, it's been 9 games for 7 losses. I just wonder if the trade period fiasco resulted in the players losing a little bit of faith in him. We know in footy that even a small drop in hunger means you'll get rolled.

No offense to Double D's but huge flog comes to mind.

I can tell you that Aaron Edwards was fuming when Laidley took him off in the last. I was sitting right next to our bench and he was trying to get an answer why he had been dragged and no one semed to have an answer for him. Urquhart had to tell him to come for a jog to try and cool him down. The officials on the bench seemed to be agreeing with him as they too were shrugging their shoulders.

"You're making Hale look crap and considering I keep stubbornly backing Hale in, you are, by extension, making me look crap. Take a rest on the bench and think about that."

Went to bed early last night, watched about half a quarter, this 12 hour stuff is wearing me down, what is beginning to worry me though is that there seems to be a bit of 'mice are running the cheese factory' going on down at Arden st.
What I mean by that is the players are 'dogging' it and trying to get Dean the boot, I could be wrong, but the skills are deplorable, as RB alluded, everyone knows whats going to happen but no-one is admitting it.

Just watching Dean in the coaches box, he has the look of inevitability about him. Notice how he doesn't scream into the phone anymore?

Let's hope he resigns sooner or later before he really does some long term damage, if he hasn't already!
That's not good to here.
