Breust had a habit of scoring when the game was over last year. He is no longer a game breaker who bobs up when we need a goal.

He didn't get up the ground like he did in previous seasons which is also going to affect his goal tally (easier to kick a goal when you aren't working as hard defensively)

For some reason people like you have a blinding loyalty to club servants, a realist knows that life isn't black and white

No one kicks 47 goals hanging out the back and getting cheapies in the AFL. No one. Some of the goals Breust kicked last year were vintage Breust. I think u r way of the mark here mate way off. He may not reach those heights this year but to kick 47 goals in the Afl takes some ****ing doing. I wish we had some one to kick that many this year as u say hanging out the back. They would be rightfully lauded for having a great season

I guess by about Round 16/17 we hear whether Gunston and Luke will retire or go around again.
I think they will go around again.
We made a HUGE MISTAKE letting Hodge and Mitchell go.
We need strong leaders so badly.

He was slowing down, kicks that would normally go through started dropping short, he stopped playing front and centre and started skirting (not quite shirking) the contest.

He is, or was, an absolute champion, but that doesn't give him a free pass .
And that forward line of a bunch of new faces looked a lot better without him there.

So he was slowing down and having shots at goal that fell short and still kicked 47 goals, must be an absolute superstar of the game then to do that.

Breust is a freak / absolute superstar. But doesn’t mean he wasn’t slowing down last year. When you have footy iq off the charts you can still kick goals. His effiency is underrated - only needs a few half chances to score.

Look at Gunston - his body seems cooked but give him the right opponent (khamis or ngyon) and he’s very dangerous.

Bruest looked gone for all money early last year, then when he was free of niggles and got some fitness he was suddenly back smashing goals through at a real clip.

He's not peak years Punky any more. But I'm not writing an epitaph for him until he's announcing his retirement - too big a risk he kicks a bag of 4/5 the following week, makes you look like a nuff nuff, and then signs on for another year.

Doesn't equal he's slowing down, of course he's not at his peak. Doesn't mean he was only getting cheap goals.

This comment was silly when it was made (Luke finished 11th in the Coleman in a side which finished 3rd bottom).

It also looks silly now - his being substituted on was a great move.

He was busy in the ground, gave good direction to the forwards when he was waiting in the bench.

Once fully fit from his groin issues, he will continue to be a regular for the next couple of seasons IMHO.

He worked his arse off to get on the end of one kick. He also got very easily turned inside out in a couple of plays, and the saints ran off him very easily.

He did provide a lot of leadership though, which he did not do last year, and as long as he can provide that leadership whilst we are developing, he will provide value to the team

He was clearly vocal, instructing players where to run, getting them to spread the field late rather than chase the kick etc.
Last year he was not doing this, even early in the season he wasn't.
I've been very critical of the team not having this generations version of vandenberg/dixon/Smith, and the last couple of weeks we have had gunston and now bresut play that role

Our ball movement is blisteringly fast here.

15 seconds from end to end. (2:19 on clock when Amon kicks it, 2:04 when Breust marks it.)

That includes a few seconds where Seamus had to gather the ball near the boundary.

For comparison the famous "Buddy hurdle" goal was about 12 seconds end to end but that was directly down the centre from a torp and then a long range ping from within the centre square.
