Hawks and Cats shunted because of the Big Four?

The only hope that Hawks or Cats have of avoiding Etihad is if Collingwood beat Kangas by about 70 more points than Richmond win by this week therefore jumping Richmond to take 5th and Richmond stuck playing Port.
Id say the best hope for cats or hawks is to throw the other under a bus

Haw syd would probably be the favourite over cats dockers. For the mcg that is

I always thought the Geelong Freo game shoul be at Etihad...

Simply won't draw the crowd the others would.

Given we've got a larger membership than Richmond (as per the AFL's published numbers) its a no brainer that our game is at the MCG if membership is the differentiating factor (as I suspected a page back)

The Tiges will get more MCG games not fewer.

The crowd of 71,533 at last Friday night’s last home game for the season pushed the average attendance at Hawthorn home games in 2013 to 38,419. This is the third highest in the club’s history behind 2008 (39,976) and 2009 (39,571). The average attendance at the six MCG home games was 56,183, while that at all nine MCG games (home and away) was 58,122.

We've got reasonable claims to have fewer home matches at the Docklands stadium as well...but

Etihad Stadium has in recent years accepted more home-and-away games or better quality fixtures in exchange for giving up finals it is contractually obliged to receive.

That in itself suggests that the likelihood of an increase in Hawthorn and Richmond home games being punted to Ethiad is high.

Forgoing an Ethiad Final will likely result in Ethiad wanting at least one or two extra high drawing matches at the venue next year. It was the AFL's decision to schedule the Geelong V Fremantle final at the MCG which resulted in Ethiad receiving a more commercially favourable allocation of home and away matches this season.

Geez we have a sensible discussion punctuated by tigers fans just dick measuring despite the fact most of them cant even remember finals

If they were to remember, thyall recall that kevin sheedy pawned them good and proper in 2001, throwing the r 22 game to avoid carlton and then smashing them in the qf.

Lloydy kicked a ton and essendon fans came on the pitch cheering, tigs fans also cam on, but only to abuse their players up close.

Classy bunch the tigs

Geelong should be at Simonds Stadium....earned the right to a home final but If Sydney beat Hawthorn and Geelong finish top then the Hawthorn game must be at Etihad can't have the side who finishes top not getting priority

So...if Geelong finish second they've got every right to a home final on their home ground whereas if Hawthorn finish second we don't have rights to our home ground? Right...

For what its worth the whole concept of home state finals is rubbish. If you've earnt a home final in the first week you should have right to play the match on your home ground of choice. For Hawthorn, Richmond and Collingwood that's the MCG and for Geelong that's Kardina Park.

Actually, the 5k 2014 Memberships we sold that came with the remainder of 2013 free have priority finals access for this year included as well.

So there will be approx 65k Richmond members with priority 2013 finals access.

AFL official website story about the new contenders for 8th spot puts Geelong and Freo at Etihad in the most likely matchups for week 1 of finals

Yeah but that doesn't make it official. AFL media is run semi-independently of the AFL, their journos can speculate as much as Caro or Robbo does.

I would laugh if Collingwood v Port was scheduled at Etihad - and it didn't sell out (which it almost certainly wouldn't). The way Eddie was talking last night was as if 80,000 Pies fans will want a ticket.

It wouldn't sell out, because the Medallion club and corporates etc wont go, so you will have 35,000 people there yet have about another 30,000 who cant get a ticket

Does that logic apply to home and away games as well?

If you looked strictly at public reserve seating (that is non MCC/AFL members and Medallion) there really isn't that much difference between Ethiad and the MCG (probably 40k vs. 60k)

A Collingwood V Port Adelaide final would likely draw 40,000 at Ethiad which is the equivalent of a 55,000 crowd at the MCG.

If the finals schedule followed the ladder all four finals probably wouldn't sell out Ethiad. Collingwood/Port Adelaide and Hawthorn/Sydney would likely go close but they'd be more than enough room.

Its the same with the old Waverley Finals in the 1980s and 1990s. Essendon drew 36k to a Qualifying Final against West Coast at Waverley in '95 and than drew 86k against the Eagles to a Semi Final at the MCG in 1996
