Our club has inaugurated, I would imagine to be held annually, a presentation of a certificate exclusive to members who have shown loyalty through membership of 40 years.

The first of such is to be conducted at a breakfast in the Olympic Room at the MCG at 8 am on Wednesday August 12 (see my invite below).

I am interested to know if there are any fellow Hawks going. Let's know by PM or in this thread. It would be great to meet you.

Sat behind a bloke at the Bulldogs game who had 60 on his scarf and his Missus 40. Kind made me feel a little limp with my 9.
Anyone who has over 40 on their scarf are true supporters who must have sat through a few floggings in their time. You deserve to be honoured.

I also will be there. As with you Gary a member for 43 years. Bringing my 11 year old son (member for 11 years) as a guest. Great to see the club give something back to us. God knows how many thousands we have poured into the place over the years.

Congrats to Gary and others for their achievement! It's great for the club to do this... I sat near a lady at the grand final who had 58 years on her scarf. There's a certain level of respect (as there should be) for long standing members, and they should certainly be celebrated/recognised.

Myself, I have 29 years to go... lol My excuse is that growing up, my parents weren't really into footy and couldn't afford it anyway. So it took until I was a young adult to jump on board. Travelling up from Geelong, to Waverley, was also a stumbling block for some time.

I must say, I absolutely love the way our great club is being administered. These relatively small scale efforts really do mean a lot to members, and reinforces our family club identity.

Well done HFC! :thumbsu:

i have another 13 years to go. this is a great idea from the club, i look forward to being included down the track.

tthose long time members have seen sooooo many good and bad times, its great thatthe club is doing this. More clubs should follow our lead.

My dad has been a member since 1950. Gee, that's a long time now i think about it. His mum (my grandmother) was a fanatical Hawthorn supporter, who signed him up practically from birth!

She clocked up over 60 years as a member. And I think, even when she was in a nursing home, long gone the days when she could go to a game, the club sent her some sort of commemorative certificate and comp memberships every year. Something like that.

I hope they do this again in 29 years.

What I read about the inauguration it will be an ongoing event.

Yes, it is a great innovation by our club. It is typical of how good they are to members. I receive ongoing invitations to many events as I'm sure other members do.

hey Gary I will be there as well....but on the 12th of August  not the 8th. When I RSVP'd the guy in membership said the club was sending out certificates for 10+ 20+ 30+ year members as well with the 40+ year members receiving their certificates from the Prezident at the function.

Enjoy the event gary. You are a true hawk. I have a been a member for 30 years but missed a couple of years in my late teens so my scarf says 18. My boy is not yet 2 but his scarf says 2!!!!

I think he sits next to/near my seat. There's a 7x (and wife with 6x) a row or two behind and a couple to the left of mine.

I could be a few years off on the 71, but it was 70 something and he was definately the longest member (there was a write up in Hawk Talk or similar about him this year he said), I'm assuming it's a different person to the couple you're referring to because he sits in the MCC section normally, regardless he is a bit of character and a true lover of the HFC. From talking with him he has saved every one of his membership cards as well and he donated the early/rare ones to Hawthorn Museum at Waverly which was a nice gesture.

Crikey! Thanks, Timer. I am working with one eye at the moment as the left one has to have a cataract removed in a few weeks time - the right eye procedue has been clearly a great success. It is a struggle to read at times and I have taken the time of the breakfast for the date - silly me!yes it is Saturday August 12th

Thanks, mate. Apology to anyone who I have thrown out of kilter - take note of your invitation not me

Oh! I have altered the OP accordingly. Gaz.

And it's great to know members of lesser years are receiving certificates too. Congrats to everyone. Give yourselves big pats on the back for being a loyal Hawk sticking with our great club through thick and thin. We have been through more thicks than thin and we can be very proud.
