List Mgmt. Hawk's List Management for 2025

Usually do one of these before the trade period but was caught-up with other stuff this year so here is my post-trade period update! This is what I have at the moment. As you can see, firstly the list is STACKED in terms of talent (which we already knew) but is also pretty close to being completely full as it is. If what I have is correct, then we have 36 primary list, 4 Cat A and 1 Cat B locked in for next year which leaves us with limited options in terms of drafting next month and SSP/MSD in 2025.

If I had to guess, I'd say we are likely to delist-then-rookie one or both of Gunston and/or Breust for flexibility. Regardless, we can only intake a max of 2 players to primary/Cat A list at the moment plus the option of another Cat B player if we want (which I suspect we will re-sign Bennetts with).

As usual, if you spot any mistakes then please let me know :)

Our cap space must be ridiculous.

Only 2 players in the top 100 paid.

Sicily #34 speculated to be on 800-900k a year.

Amon #95 on 625-725k a year.

I’ve deleted a few posts.

List management thread will stray into trade scenarios, and that’s mostly fine, but perhaps we can be mindful that some players are still playing finals for this great club and we don’t need to seed speculation into the general public that could end with them being quizzed about it by Joe Blow in the street while they’re trying to focus on our next game.

How long before other clubs come and offer sleepy Mark big bucks and a king-sized duvet?

His drafting ability is second to none over the last five years and by all accounts is one of the smoothest operators in the country.

Can't call him if he's asleep. He's in hibernation now until the draft so let the try 😂

Absolutely gutted for Frosty. No one deserved a crack at finals more than him. Isn’t it an odd situation that the 2 replacements for him are more than likely not on our list next year. Regardless I wish them well of course and what an opportunity to make your case to be on a list next year - ours or another.

We probably have more cap space than most but there is a floor, we can't have more available than the floor allows us. We've probably got more players on more than the AFL average, goes a way to explain how our team is so even and deep at the moment.

If Day comes back this year who would opposition clubs tag Day or Newcombe.

They've both gotten attention at times this year, and so has Worpel.

I think sides genuinely don't know who to tag against us. It's whack a mole too, when they were sitting on Newcombe and Worpel the guy without the tag just kept winning the ball.

For all the overthinking from Bevo leading up till Friday, he still didn't know what to do. And Day obviously wasn't playing.

It seemed like during our 3 peat era, sides knew tagging Mitchell would slow us down, and they did.

They have no $#%ing idea as it stands right now - aside from Sicily when they can manufacture that.

Hawks are a smart club. They will be paying players in advance right now and the media would have no effing idea.

Nice full list analysis Davo-27. As always, you provide Great content for thought. Tough calls are never liked by the one-eyed supporters, but they are by us analysts out here.

First: You made some soft calls...
Stephens is not "likely gone", if he has any sense he has already cleaned out his locker.
And the writing is not just on the wall for DGB, the writing has gone up his arm with an arrow pointing to his noggin.

Some fair calls:
Morrison is doing everything right with the Hawks and yet is still in the last few picked. Is Perryman better than Morrison? Do we need Perryman more than Morrison? I do not know. If so, could a straight swap work for both players?
The big easy got his time on an AFL field and performed well. I hope he goes the Spanger route from team to team to team as the backup interceptor, and have situations fall his way for him to have some level of Spangers's success.

And some Harsh calls:
JOS just needs injury-free continuity of game time to grow what he can do. For mine he has AFL traits, but agreed he is not yet fully showing them.
Tucker shows a lot in spurts but as you say, his tank is not even close to AFL standard. A delisting with a promise to relist in the SSP if he hits an endurance mark would work for me.

Davo-27 your point is well made. Some players that we like will be delisted this year. And you had the balls to name those that are on the chopping block. Kudos to you.
Could Ethan Phillips get the Spanger-style success this year? Charlie Dixon is a BRUTE, though he is not moving very well... which is about the best match up Phillips could hope for to get into a finals team.

The most amazing part of our rebuild is getting Newcombe in the mid season draft by some mystical chance in Covid.

Now he is the driving force behind a fiercely competitive midfield. Imagine having to wrestle newk every day and pre season. Combined with Nash, meek, Worpel - it really wears you down.

We just had to deal with a year of the worst footy I've ever seen us play for the privilege of drafting Newc!

He and we have come a long way since his debut game against the Swines where he almost broke the tackle record for a first game player

They can’t be paying them too much.

He did break it. (by 3 quarter time)

I really hope Hawthorn doesn't splash to much money around. Pay sensible money only.

Well we are definitely flexing.

We tried to make Taylor the highest paid player of all time and reportedly we were after Mac who now has the biggest contract in AFL history. Just putting two and two together but we're in the hunt for that marquee signing and we're ready to pay the price.

So out of all the players in the league who would you offer a say 7 year $1.2m+ contract a year too?
- Harley?, who else?

Harley.
Sheezel.
Darcy.

Those are the obvious three.

Cadman will get a 7 figure deal from somebody soon. He looks like he's on the verge of breaking out.
