Big positive tonight was our forward line actually looking somewhat functional for the first time in a long time. Having a ruck sized forward helping Roughy out makes our forward 50 entries look a lot better. Our defence has saved us in several recent games, and probably did ok tonight given the amount of ball that came in. GWS has an amazing midfield group when you look at their top 4 mids tonight. Not many midfields are going to man handle us like they did tonight, so I think if we can keep up the effort we showed in the last 3 quarters and get some players back, we are still going to give top 8 a shake.

Glass deserves to hold his spot, his closing speed is great, so provides good pressure and can provide a running option too. With Langford injured his chances of playing 2 in a row are slightly higher than they might be otherwise, but would also love to see O'Rourke take Langford's spot.

It’s one thing to say they were bad (they were). It’s another thing though to suggest they cost us the game when we were so convincingly beaten in almost every aspect of the game.

Except on the scoreboard.

Except in effort and intensity.

Except in defensive organisation across the ground.

Beaten, but far from convincingly.

I can understand people not agreeing with the assessment that the umpiring was the deciding factor, but to rely on stats is equally silly. They simply don't tell the whole story. GWS play footy like spoiled rich kids.

When we were at our best a few years ago, there's no way the stats told that story.

Umpiring was very harsh but we also gained advantage and 2 goals to Ceglar from bad calls so i wouldnt blame the umpires whistle for our mid and ruck being listless tonight. Exception being Mitchell of course

Ok, deep breath, I actually think that that was a good solid effort imo. Silk and Gunston out was huge for us as they are mobile across the ground and can play in different roles.
I don’t think Langford will be picked for a while from here on in, just has no tricks up his sleeve.
Hindsight is wonderful but I felt that once gunner was out, we should have brought Brand in and Sicily up forward to help out Roughead and Ceglar who were quite serviceable.

Luke Breust is AA lock imo opinion, had two poor games but he’s been awesome for the rest.
Mitchell brilliant, Smith led the team well when things weren’t looking good .
Jaeger was ok I thought, worked hard but same can’t be said of Howe and Harry .
If we beat Doggies then we’ll forget this loss quickly.

Woods and McCabe frustrated at times but were a level above Ries… levels actually. Hassle was too shit to get enough games to frustrate me.

You can't win a game with -53 contested ball. Point blank. It's a ****en violation. Put simply, we don't have midfield depth. But we keep playing spuds like Duryea and Langers. We've got at least 3 guys we could trial in there who never get a look in.

Their midfield depth was frightening. We just couldn't go with their talent in the end.

Fair game by Simpson too - thought we'd get the better of the ruck but he was dominant.

By the way, Sicily's kicking at the end? What the heck??

Had Glass held on to that mark in the last, he would've had a great last quarter.

Every team has injuries at all times. This year we have been incredibly fortunate to have only 2 best 22 out each week.

Burgoyne is still playing okay but 2 hamstring injuries means his body may be catching up with him. I'm sure if he does play on next year he will do well but we must move in from being dependent on him.

The worst/over umpired game I’ve seen this year. Lots of guessing and attention seeking calls both ways.

After today's game our free trade priority should be getting Brad Hill back and maybe moving Gaff to the top of the shopping list

If we are going to lose contested ball then at least have fast outside players who can make them really really pay
