PapaJ nice post thank you and i did not think the umpiring was that bad either bit shocked that some do ???? there were some dodgy moments but other then that did not notice the umps at all

I haven't watched a replay so couldn't see what the free kicks were for, so maybe they were fair, however I believe the disparity has been pointed out. Either we have a lot of "bad luck" or we were playing in a way that resulted in a lot of frees against, which is not so bad when you're up by 10 goals but if a game is on the line it could be a problem.

As for Buddy, it's not so much the free kicks he gives away, because they're usually there, it's the amount of contests he can't get to because he's being held out that struck me. Still, I'll reiterate what I said before - I think he should be applauded for keeping his cool the way he did considering the game he was having.

And the Roberton incident I believe was assessed exactly the same as Buddy's earlier in the year, the only difference being the carryover points, so I haven't got a problem with that.

I watched the game on replay, knowing we had won, so I was pretty relaxed about the frees. From my watching most of what they got was there, but they also got the little ones that the umpires sometimes call and sometimes don't, and we didn't. The slightly high arm at the bottom of the pack, or whether the player had prior opportunity. That sort of thing.

I'm not one who believes the free count should be even, but 32 to 17 is a pretty wide disparity, particularly when 7 or 8 of ours where from them kicking out on the full. And generally the side who wins does a bit better in the count as they have the ball more often.

A team that couldn't buy a win interstate for the last two years has now had comfortable wins in every state except QLD, with a game against GC on the way.

Yep, and to be honest we should've really won by more.

The second quarter, where the commentary team seemed intent on reading from a script that saw Freo dominate was where we stepped it up even further.
6mins left in the quarter and Freo had entered 50 2 times.

Not enough has been made of our dominance, especially when a lot if tipsters and media wanted to talk about how hard it would be for us to win over there.

Anyway, it is nice being under the radar like we are, and I certainly hope the other top4 teams overlook us like others have because I'm starring to think that we just might be able to go deep into the finals with the amount of flexibility we've grown this year.

All I can respond in regards to our treatment by umpires and the AFL is; we know that we have to win it off our own boot, which I like a lot. No complaints no excuses, motivation to prove everyone wrong.

The big argument from other teams as to why they get better free kick counts is usually that they are first to the ball and you get frees if you want it and get to the ball first. Bull.

It's us versus them.

since we're talking about frees, buddy has lowered his free kick against count since the first say 4/5 rounds. he's definitely working on that department it would seem

they are the ones i go nuts at that he should get the ones where he is being held and yet gets nothing for and agree on him keeping his cool got to be hard when you get that done to you week in week out

It seems that the commentators are just as bad as the posters of BF who say "Hawthorn are slow, and have no backline".
