Autopsy Hawks vs Port - rip it apart here

I will put my hand up to say I thought we would struggle today.

Port would of rated their chances today and at half time they would reckoned they could get us with fitness. So for me, that was an impressive win. Solid right across the park and down 4/5 best 22.

Good win. Well done boys.

Seems to highlight that mental issue v Cats even more. Hawks just don't seem to lose these sort of games at the moment.

Had to listen to that via triple m :(
May as well have had the commentary from the Port cheer squad. Atrocious. Couldn't follow what was going on.
By the collective groans from those monkeys I assume the boys played ok :)
Nice scoreboard anyway ;)
Well done!

Yeah, I have to admit I thought we might struggle in the wet. Port a a different side from last year and have had the big scalps in Sydney and Collingwood, I wasn't to sure. Even in the 2nd when they got within 3 or something I was just preying that we could return fire.

I really loved Ruffs game, aswell as Smiths, Hodge, Gunston and in small patches Cyril. Mitch was well held, but it was nice to see us win a few more center clearence.

Remember no Buddy, Brad, Birch, Shields all missing from our best 22. I am happy with the win.

Is Stratton ok?

there was a lot to like in the way that they played, although I sensed a slight lack of excitement. a bit mentally detached. was it due to feeling a bit flat over last week's outcome, or was it due to the large-ish margin? who knows. either way, this win seemed to just 'happen' simply because our side was better...

Concussion for Stratts, but he looked fine after the game.

Savage is really adding something good to the team now. Confidence is king and with it, he's playing really well. Takes a good contested mark too, which we don't really have in a mid.

We monstered them with our bigger bodies, which was good to see because in games at AAMI we usually play into their style.

How was Simpkin delisted? Consistently performing quite well.

I hate to say it, but Simpkin is the perfect Sub: makes an instant impact.

He's got good hand & kicking skills, perhaps a little slow?

Just got back from the game & it was great to see a big turnout from Hawthorn fans.

I don't know what it was like on TV, but at the ground Duryea played the best game I've seen from him. I'm now officially a fan.

Roughy was excellent. So was Lewis. Savage has really improved his workrate. Smith looked hungry for success again.

The Hale/Bailey partnership still looks slow. At time we really struggle to chase out of our forward line. Then, with only one tall (& Roughy) in the forward line, we really up the pressure & make it tough to get it out of our F50. Tough choices will have to be made there.

Good to catch up with a heap of people that I only get to see once or twice a year. Always good to chat to N24, Henry Jr & Closed Sessions.

And I took the kids & they loved it. A good way for our last game at Football Park to end.

Go Hawks.

Wow, was at the game and jeez those Port supporters are even worse than usual.

The booing of the umpires was just a joke, the Port players were clearly going the man not the ball early and the umpires picked up on it. Then towards the end of the seconds the umpires were literally scared to call a free against Port because they copped that much abuse.. Not good.

Have settled down now but I wasn't happy when Stratts was knocked out, okay he ducked but I'm pretty sure the free was for the slamming into the ground afterwards, which should be looked at by the tribunal, the Port supporters in the members section were abusing the shit out of him, I was really embarrassed for them.

Was going to send a txt through to the Securty thing, but they wouldn't show the number again. Funny how a Hawks supporter had a couple and was pretty happy with the team and was up and about in the last quarter celebrating when we kicked a goal, then all of a sudden a women calls the security over, one of the Hawks supporters said to her 'has he actually abused you?' and she didn't answer. Would be pretty embarrassed to be a Power supporter today to be honest.

Good win anyway.

Really solid win...
Now for all the don't need buddy comments...

Maybe we just use Buddy wrong. Buddy is awesome and at his best when things are not predictable. So why do we make it predictable? Rough should be the Hawks main forward and Buddy should be used as a tall Rioli. Just let him run around like a mad man. Stop putting it on his head and expecting him to take a contested mark. Make Buddy the chaos player - that is what he does best.

Love this comment. He's not your traditional power forward. Leave him in the pocket or the half forward flank and I'd be tempted to say let him have a few more roosts from 50m+ out, which he doesn't seem to attempt anymore, and despite this being unselfish he'd probably kick most of them.
