Autopsy Hawks vs Tuggers

Lots of pot shots at Hartungs decision making in many different threads at the moment.

Maybe its just me, but in the last when we had a forward structure to kick to did his "decision" making improve? Did the whole team stop being crabs and move it forward? Did the theory of Hartung, Hill and Smith being able to run over the top of teams in the last prevail?
Hartung is a young inexperienced player. He is going to make bad decisions among good decisions. So long as he improves over time then we just need to be patient. He has definitely improved in that area this year but still has a way to go before He has the decision make standard of many of our premiership stars. I am confident he will get that part of his game up to speed sooner rather than later.

Exactly - he's played 20 games! Half of them as sub! I thought he was excellent last night , definitely earned his spot and worked well with smith and hill to out run them over the 4 quarters! Its no coincidence that all 3 players had probably their best games for the year last night as they worked well together to do that!

Interesting comparison of players in the box... makes sense given Mitchell's interest in all things footy.
Looks a bit infatuated with that banana kinda like " I peeled it all by myself and there was a surprise inside herp derp".

sorry - didnt finish writing....
they won the free kick count, plus had a goal gifted with that Vickery 5 meter pass....but the media choose to write about hawks 'lucky' goal
Yep they are complete morons, with nothing better to write about it seems.

Got everything I hoped to see out of the Brand debut. Couple little errors but for a first gamer there were way more positives than negatives.

Langford did well to arrest some of the momentum Richmond had. Won a few key clearances when Richmond got a couple goals up and looked like they might out a bit of a gap on.

Howe looked as composed as ever. Really could be anything.

Solid performances from most. I really do think that this team would be so much better with a decent tap-ruckman. Opposition getting continual first use has always been and I'm sure will continue to be frustrating. Without Shiels' defensive side work in the centre square, I don't know where this team would be.

It was good to see Lewis have a big impact in the 2nd half and hopefully this can be a turning point going forward, kicked a crunch "captains" goal in the 3rd when the game was on the line.

Smith, Hill & Hartung worked well together and provided us with much needed outside run & carry - they probably each played their best games of the season.

The stat sheets may not show a heap of possessions but Cyrils dozen or so touches are more damaging than most players who gather 30+ possies. He had 7 direct score involvements and tackling pressure was fantastic.

Fantastic first game by Brand, played with composure and like he belonged.. TOB provided contests forward & back, and dare I say no reason why you drop him for Shoey.

Breust was very opportunistic, I guess you can never fault a 6 goal bag - Gunston is a competitive beast :thumbsu:

Has anyone seen the ad of fox footy for the inclusion of David King on On the Couch?
The one where dunstall, Healy and Brown all talking about how much King has to offer, all to some slow mo of Kings bonce to give the impression he's an intellectual?
MENSA candidate he is not.

King's insight into the game is laughably pedestrian. Has he called us winning the GF once over the past 3 years?

You could mount a decent argument based on the idea that if he says 'X' is going to happen, you should place a sizeable bet on the exact opposite outcome.

Nothing more hilarious than that FOX footy set he 'performs' on that is supposed to look high tech and 'clever'.

You can put a monkey in a suit, but the monkey remains a monkey.

Someone might want to send a memo to the goons hiring special comments men. Surely there is a better option than what's in place now.

I'm beginning to see Schoey as depth for TOB. Have never been a Schoey hater either - I just like TOB a lot.

IIRC King said that Richmond were going to be a top 4 team after beating us in the NAB challenge, guess that was Richmonds kiss of death.

A good win in the end, especially considering our outs, and that prior to last years elimination finals, the Tigs were gonna be top 4 stuff in 2016 :)

Solid debut by Brand and nice to see Lovell getting touches especially in the last. I am still wary of the #36 curse however.

I will pre-empt all this by acknowledging Richmond had a number of stars out and their depth is shite, and I reckon even Tigers supporters would agree their form is rather abysmal as a result. Thus, this wasn't exactly a full on pressure AFL game.

However, it was at the MCG. On a Friday night in prime time tv action. In front of 50,000 spectators. This was all about the kids. Whatever progression was depleted last week was obtained in spades last night. True, Richmond's stars were opposed by older, wiser heads, but this week the kids were a major part of the action. No Rough up forward, no Frawley down back. The big team leaders in Hodge and Mitchell out. A newbie with only a handful of AFL games under their belt would normally be a bit of a passenger, as most have been this year. Last night, they all had to be a major part of the engine.

This experience is invaluable. INVALUABLE. They all would have come off the ground feeling as though they truly contributed in a major way, and a game like that is worth 10 games in terms of development. TOB threw himself into contests like Roughie, Howe was a mini Hodge down back. Lovell got better throughout the game. Brand contested well. We now have depth that isn't as raw as this time last week.

Psychologically, they now believe the can play at this level. Play and contribute. The confidence that comes out of being the focus in an AFL game and getting it done is something we could only wish for. Looks like another wish has come true.

On another note, must mention Rioli, who within a minute or two of returning to the field from a head clash, dived head fist to a contested ball and won it. Courageous ++++

Geez we're skinny, just watching the players come off, veteran players like Lewis, Birchall have very little muscle nowdays.

random stats

Breust kicked our 1st 3 and last 3 goals and our last 6 wins have been 3x3 points and 3x46 points.

The Hill bashing astounds me.
Some have the courage to back into packs.
Some have the courage to leave their man to make the contest.
Some have the courage to split a pack.
Brad continuously shows the courage to gut run. Create options. Link up. His gut running blew up numerous finger pointing Richmond players through the latter stages of qtrs 3 & 4. Deflated blokes.

One game back and his first of the season...from a busted wrist... after a promising first qtr he copped a severe lower leg blow that would've sat a lesser bloke out for the rest of the match.
Instead he came back. We were able to use near our full rotation quota which helped us be running on top of the ground in our final minutes.
Yet all the critics bleat about a defender clearly holding size advantage in the last qtr pushing him off it.

Please start understanding blokes have roles. Brad has previously shown (2014 GF as a prime example on both Malceski & Tippett) he has the ability to pin someone. But this is not his primary role.

People who question this blokes courage and think their grandma could do better need to go out and show me she has the courage to gut run 200/300m continuous reps 90 minutes into a contest to the final siren.
Not sure if the post is directed at me or just a link to the topic, but I agree with where you are coming from. Hill's courage in what he does can't be questioned... that being said, I think he has a technique flaw in his tackling that could be worked on.

The incident I got frustrated about (purely game day emotion, not a hater) was early in the last quarter, where he was standing next to a flat footed Richmond player who received a disputed ball. Hilly just kinda grabbed at him with outstretched arms and was brushed aside. Its an area he can work on that may add a few percent to his game.

Don't see anything wrong with seeing flaws in a players skill set that they can improve, but continuous derogatory comments are unproductive.
