Sorry man, I'm firmly in the camp no-one outside of Dylan and those he has told would have any ******* idea.

All good mate, Ben hasn’t said we’re Shiel’s choice in the article though, just that we’re in front and knowing how Ben is as a journo I at least personally would be inclined to believe him.

Sorry man, read it again. Just quoting the fox footy show, trade lowdown. He isn't offering an opinion himself.

Oh well, hopefully this will be over soon.

Is it abnormal for a player not to have nominated a club going into the second day of trade period?

I cannot think of one who didn't nominate prior to trade period starting, a big name anyway.

It’s called creating competition where none exists. But recruiters aren’t mugs. Parallels are drawn with real estate but those Guys always get the sale, and convince the seller to take less ,just get the sale going and the cash flowing. A for extra hundred commission is seen as a risk if a sale might not happen

You’re spot on

We need to satisfy GWS. Simple.

I don't see why everyone is blaming DS here.

If Hawthorn can't come up with an offer that GWS are happy with, they will say no.

DS will not want to nominate Hawthorn if he has already been told that our offer is not good enough.

This. How do you think Russell got there in contract?!!

They want Carlton off the bottom quick smart but can’t give em another priority pick.

They don’t want us to win.
The afl don’t know a thing about successful football clubs. If they did they wouldn’t persistently try ‘quick Fixes’. Draft picks and access to vfl players is essentially the same as giving the more money but it does nothing to address the fundamental problems at the club. Solution? Pressure a good player to go there! I wouldn’t be against additional football department spending to struggling clubs to assist with development of players. But what really needs to happen at clubs like Carlton and Gold Coast is effective management structures and culture building.

The bottom is probably most right.. if he nominates us and a deal doesn’t come then Carlton has the upper hand in negotiations.

Or he could say, if you don't trade me to Hawthorn, then I'll see my contract out (which they apparently can't afford) and then go to Hawthorn as a free agent and you'll get most likely less than what is being offered now.

They appear to have more power than they should. Since inception their modus has been to recycle their players and picks to keep a. Never ending rotation of low picks and player talent to offset that the place will take decades to establish.

Maybe the realisation they can’t actually achieve this forever is dawning.

Big Jeff needs to come out swinging tomorrow, and get the AFL to pull their heads in, even if there is a whiff that something dodgy is going on. Perhaps a good start would be questioning the deal GCS and Tiges facilitated to secure Lynch, how two players can be traded for effectively nothing is beyond me. Maybe he could go tag team with Ed.

Mate if he wanted us like I am reading he comes out and declares it because that’s the way we do business.

Holding out and meeting with other clubs multiple times is making him and his manager look like mercenaries.
And making it harder for us to satisfy GWS's demands.
Whether or not Carlton will use pick one on Shiel is up for debate but if GWS think they are a chance to get it then under the current climate of GWS needing to salary dump then even the Hawks offering a mythical very handy player to them is of no value to them.
As others have stated if Shiel is to come to the Hawks he has to nominate us as his steadfast destination because from my not in the know, observational only viewpoint other teams have far more distracting currency for GWS to take our offers seriously. This is not the Hawks fault it lies squarely at the feet of Dylans management and advisories.

Agreed 100%.

IMO whether it's the doing of afl, managers or the player himself. It's surely getting close to a backlash on Shiel similar to others like danger, ablett etc. For me starting to be very much " look at me "

From info I have, these two quotes are extremely accurate. He really wants to get to us but his management, and I believe, pressure from Gil and HQ, are making GWS difficult to deal with. It smacks to me of AFL involvement to get Carlton off the bottom. THIS IS A POTENTIAL SCANDAL.

The afl don’t do scandals

I doubt he will until it is resolved one way or the other, BUT If there is any evidence you would expect him to be vocal. I do.
