I don't quite understand the mentality of the Blues players going to Carlton. Is it just for the cash. In that cash, they're in a lot of trouble, as they are paying over market value (i.e. outbidding everyone) on numerous players in the short term, which will cause problems with equity over the list in the long term.

If it's for premierships, i'm not quite sure what they see? How do they expect the second tier players to go from GWS (which can't win a premiership) to Carlton and suddenly win a premiership with an inferior side?

Finally, is it just so all the mates can play together? If so, then it's a joke of a decision by so called professionals.

If this was the case they should all have stayed at GWS along with SOS.

To be fair (why be fair? I’ve got no friggin idea) but to be fair, the Blues have been making a big investment off field. Coaching, training, facilities. It’s a club that has a shot.

It can also, most likely, wither in a mess of mediocrity or worse. But if you’re a gambler then it may appeal.
Carlton just spent 45,000 if their footy dept soft cap in a private jet for a potential recruit that they are no guarantee of getting. For that money they could have hired him a PA for a year. Absolute waste, and you can't be successful unless you are utilising your resources properly. Pay players based on what they provide, same with coaches.

Bahaha
Seriously!!!
Way to many issues playing out here! Way to many.

I’m starting to feel like I want Shiel to go to Carlton just to read the rants. It’s hilarious.
Not to mention that Carlton will over spend & keep them as cellar dwellers for the next 5 years.

If Shiel gets to Hawthorn, great.
If he doesn’t.... WGAF! Move on

I’ll be tuning into trade radio when I can today to listen to the garbage that get sustained exemptions as fact waiting on something about Hawthorn.
Something is coming.

Hahaha.... Chill the **** out.

I love a good conspiracy btw!
My roll of foil gets a seat next to me tonight while I do the catch up read of this thread.

Should be our priority number 1

We need to satisfy GWS. Simple.

I don't see why everyone is blaming DS here.

If Hawthorn can't come up with an offer that GWS are happy with, they will say no.

DS will not want to nominate Hawthorn if he has already been told that our offer is not good enough.

GWS have to trade him, they have a salary cap in diabolical straits, they aren't really in a position to play hard ball although they like to think they are.

As much as we need an A grade mid, as much as we need to keep adding talent with the rebuild on the run model we are trying to do, if shiel doesn't nominate us by today I think we just move on. No point hanging out for someone that it isn't 100% in love with the idea of coming to your football club.

I have just been told 2nd hand from a cousin of Shiel (so I guess grain of salt type stuff) the latest reports on here are spot on. He wants us but the clubs are trying hard to strike a deal with no luck so far. If it can't work he'll go to Carlton. Doesn't want to be seen to choose us but end up at Carlton.
Wouldn't shock me if an announcement of decision came at the same time as an actual trade.

I’ve got similar. From an insider.

I am reluctant to believe that anyone would seriously believe the conspiracy theories that are being floated here by some. It all sounds like normal hard nosed commercial negotiations being transacted by the relevant parties.
I'm reluctant to believe anyone wouldn't believe that large corporations could be capable of unscrupulous tactics, think the banking royal commission. The AFL tried to downplay the doping scandal, offered significantly more in compo for Frawley than the best player in the league (Buddy) and have now provided GCS pick 3 as well as two solid depth players as compo for Lynch. Yeah, nothing to see here.

Shiel needs to grow some balls and tell GWS trade me to the hawks or find someone else to get rid of to fix your cap problem.

If it’s a matter of getting the trade done with GWS then I have some faith in us getting it done. We may not overpay in salary but we’ll happily oblige at the trade table. Could easily see us do something like this year’s first, next year’s second and Ceglar for Shiel and a GWS 3rd rounder or similar - with us chipping in on the Ceglar salary to appease the Giants cap.

Can tell his 2nd cousin to tell him to stick fat at GWS, try for a flag next year, and we'll take him next year as a FA and give him a real chance at flags in years 20-23.

How many times does it need to be said in here guys?

Shiel wants the HFC. It’s on us to get the trade done or else he falls to Carlton. It’s why he won’t announce he wants to go somewhere - for fear he will look like he has backflipped.

The news I got last night was that we had tabled a better offer and we’re close.

Try to relax.

Pull the pin Hawks. What a joke this has become.

Why would GWS even bother dealing with us if they have wind that Shiel will happily go to Carlton as well.

If GWS think a future speculative first round pick from Carlton is more desirable than pick 15 this year in a Super Draft then they are dumber than Carlton and deserve each other.

Shiels management team have a lot to answer for.

You forgot to mention the AFL's free agency compensation method which paved the way for Gary Ablett's trade to Geelong. That was up there with the best of them.

Additionally, it's unlikely that the offer GWS will accept from us is a static proposition. What they want from us will likely depend on how their players movements with other teams look. There may be three or four layers of movement that need to get worked out to see if the offer can fit.

It's very unlikely that the advice given here of quit early and just give up will be heeded. They can probably work the GWS/Hawthorn deal quite a while, letting other developments mature, before they are forced to take action on this.

It's also true that GW may have some moving parts he needs to fall into place in order to make the type of offer GWS are looking for. There will be draft ranges where GW will want his picks to fit on draft day. Depending on what we pick up elsewhere may make the later round arrangements more suitable for the Shiel trade.

There is no rush and the idea that we're missing out elsewhere by pursuing Shiel this first week is unproven. It's quite possible that later trades are already lined up and in no rush. There's no advantage to doing anything that isn't necessary or that makes the Shiel deal easier.

Here it is.

This was being reported last night.

I’m not sure how anyone reaches this conclusion after one day of the trade period.

There is constant disinformation. For me it’s unprecedented that this is a talking point, so logically I can only say there are other things in play being put out there by people who want us to fail.

Life goes on regardless.
