Dylan seems like he didn't want to state his preferred destination until he was traded. An attempt to avoid the O'meara situation of declaring a club publicly but not knowing if it would be done until the last minute of the trade period.

Dylan will now be traded today without leaking that he will be coming to Hawthorn as agreed 6 months ago.

Tom Mitchell's 2016 vs Dylan Shiel's 2018

Very similar output despite different styles.

Mitchell for pick 14 + late pick swaps.

Shiel for pick 15 + Ceglar (& part salary).

We know in hindsight Mitchell was a steal for that price, but realistically it was a pretty fair price at the time. Compared to that "first rounder + Ceglar & part salary" price that's been rumoured a lot it is very fair for GWS.

I think the massive Carlton offer and the fact they, Saints, and Essendon all have better first rounders than us is complicating GWS's thinking in terms of his value.

O'Meara likely had no choice but to play draft chicken. I imagine that Hawthorn had already been working to get a deal with GCS and Cochrane had been unreasonably stubborn so O'Meara had to up the stakes.

This trade is different. I suspect that all parties are acting in good faith and doing their best to get everyone satisfied. No need for DS to put down the hammer. Possibly a game of public chicken would be harmful, not helpful.

Calm before the storm. Whichever way it goes.

Was told last night it’s us, but that doesn’t mean we get him.

There’s politics going on here. I just hope we’ve been able to rise above and get it done.

For your sake I hope he comes in. You've been riding the it's on/it's off rollercoaster pretty hard these last two days. :)

Would also be a consideration on what they have received in the past. Treloar got hem 2 first rounders.
Internally they may rate the players as equals and believe it to be fair, however other extenuating factors
are at play and GWS need to reduce their own expectations.
