Heathcote DFL discussion 2023

Think that's what there getting at Bush... pay a player to be director of football so it doesn't go into the cap. They've always had ingenious ways of getting around it 🤣
Ok I see where your headed. I think Mounts could afford to do plenty of things. Ruthless in chasing success but it's been a long while for them.

Anyone buying the director of coaching role at Mounts or just another way to get around the salary cap?
I think it’s more they have a Director of coaching and also joint playing coaches…and one of the joint coaches announced the week salary cap projections had to be provided to AFLCV….

My understanding is when you have a playing Coach you only put 50% of their salary in but when you have Co-Coaches you only get a 25% reduction so if that's still the case there would have been no benefit for them to do that.

Maiden Gully and Marong still pushing to join the league, and according to the Addy, Cohuna are now contemplating pushing to join as well.
LVFNL have to send them on their ways, but if it were to happen, is there room for all three teams?

It would make it a 12 team Comp - & there are Leagues that are bigger than that but they are probably at the mercy of the Clubs voting on it.

I agree it adds to the league. Problem is, and it happens throughout leagues, is say there was a 12 team comp this year, you don’t play everyone twice. Clubs not playing Huntly twice will bemoan the fact they don’t get the opportunity for 4 points (this is not a dig at Huntly in any way, more a reference)
How do you keep the evenness in the draw?

The even draw would go with anymore than 10 sides.

Not sure changing leagues will fix the Kanga's issues, the under 18 numbers is a real concern also. I can however understand the LVFNL teams wanting to abandon a sinking ship. 3 teams is too much to absorb and will unbalance the draw. I team will get rid of the bye, 2 teams will add 2 weeks to the year which is possibly doable but 3 teams just creates headaches.

Adding 3 teams would be the same draw as adding 2 but there would be no bye.

They currently play 16 Home and Away games to keep an even draw with 3 more Clubs they would need to play 22 games. If I was the HDFL I'd lean towards admitting Marong to make it a 10 team Comp & leave the other two. Maiden-Gully have a plan of getting to the Bendigo League so won't be there long term if that comes off anyway.

maiden gully should go straight to the BFL, like strath did, it worked out better for them, cant see cohuna, not going in, leitchy is 10 minutes drive, locky not far either, if cohuna vote yes, i think theyll be the first tram admitted into the hdfl, and id think their members will vote yes, i reckon the river raiders would follow cohuna, in a year or 2, if cohuna transition well into the league

Can’t see Heathcote enjoying the 2 hr drive to the Border.
Makes it a weird demographic of a league considering its level.
Might as well add Castlemaine and Maryborough

There has always been a push for the old Northern and Echuca league clubs to get back together, if you look where most of their kids go for either uni or work it's south, the hdfl is now as good if not better senior standard as the cmfl, and it's still community style footy, which the bfl can never offer those clubs, I'd think 3-5 years the southern cmfl clubs will all join the hdfl, as they keep more locals, without trying to recruit, I'd imagine Kerang and cohuna have a fair chunk of their seniors already train in Bendigo, it's a selling point to recruit, they can play half the games around bendigo, as opposed to Swan Hill

What's your thoughts on Cohuna?
I’m looking at it from an outside observer. Firstly I’ve never been there, so it sure of its ambience.
It probably increases a trip that way for Heathcote another 15 minutes. What’s the current travel time for the saints to Leitchy/Gunny for reference.
I don’t think you can allow all three clubs in atm. The Heathcote league doesn’t really seem broke, so you’d be haphazard to tinker too much. Maybe 2 of those three max.

I’m still a firm believer that in the next 5 years there needs to be a serious re-structure of the football/netball in the area.
With the current state of the league, you’d hope if it does occur, it’s not to the leagues detriment.
