I reckon Colbo are likely to roll Heathcote tomorrow based on 2 things. They play the ground extremely well and they have greater leg speed. Smaller players but in all quicker across the ground.

Huntly to host finale

HUNTLY will this year host its first Bendigo Bank Heathcote District Football League grand final.

Huntly’s Trickey’s Diesel Oval was confirmed as the venue for this year’s HDFL grand final at a meeting on Wednesday night.

The HDFL will be the first of the central Victorian grand finals to be played this year on Saturday, September 6.

“The Huntly ground is in as good a condition as any other ground in the league and it’s a neutral venue,’’ HDFL secretary Trevor Arnel said yesterday.

“We have had to make a decision on the grand final venue now so we can apply for a liquor licence.

“Gone are the days when we wait until after the preliminary final to see who is playing in the grand final, we need 30 days for the liquor license.’’

As well as the grand final, Huntly will also host the preliminary final the previous week.

HDFL finals venues:

Qualifying final: Saturday, August 16 - Broadford.

Elimination final: Sunday, August 17 - Heathcote.

Second semi-final: Saturday, August 23 - White Hills.

First semi-final: Sunday, August 24 - North Bendigo.

Preliminary final: Saturday, August 30 - Huntly.

Grand final: Saturday, September 6 - Huntly.

Grant earns ACFC medal

ELMORE star Andy Grant has been named division two player of the carnival at the Australian Country Football Championships held in Shepparton.

Grant won the Landmark Medal for his sparkling performances in the Victorian engine room over the carnival’s four days.

The 2007 Cheatley Medallist captained Victoria to a 2-1 win-loss record for the carnival, their only loss at the hands of eventual division two champion Queensland in the second round.

And it was Grant the captain who yesterday failed to hide his bitter disappointment at faltering to Queensland by a paltry four points, a result only slightly tempered by individual recognition at the carnival’s conclusion.

“It’s good to get an honour like that, but I’m just disappointed we lost to Queensland, to be honest, in hindsight we should have beaten them and then gone on and beat NSW to go up to division one,’’ Grant said of the four-point defeat.

“But it is pretty rewarding I suppose when you work hard and get recognised for that.’’Grant admitted relishing the opportunity to lead some of the most gifted footballers in country Victoria - including Elmore team-mate Ryan Hayes and Kalkee midfielder Steve Schultz, who was named in the ACFC All-Australian team - at the carnival.

“Obviously it’s a lot quicker and playing with players that are highly skilled makes it easier to get a kick,’’ he said.

“Good quality players make your job a bit easier.

“(Captaining) wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be, obviously there’s players from all around Victoria and some of them are captaining and coaching at their own clubs, but you meet all the blokes before you play with them so I found it pretty easy and there wasn’t much to do, to be honest.’’

i havnt heard nearly enough about sonnys tribuneral appearence!

hey nesko,i really think you should take me up on that offer. beer tastes so much better on a sunday! you can work out how to get home after you can no longer walk, talk or make any sensible decisions. its much more fun that way!!!:D:thumbsu:

It didnt have anything to do with fitness last time. They were better drilled and had a better game plan. More winners across every line first time around. Home ground advantage?

Brydan Morgan wasnt too keen on a hard tag today? Got touched up and didnt like bloke just running with him and didnt care if he got a kick. OBrien one of the better negators in the league at present. I know Colbo were happy with Tom Tobin playing full back on Knight when they needed a goal in the last quarter. Couldnt work out why they didnt move him forward.

Well done to Colbo, great game of footy.GG i would not say the bloke touched up Morgan,i think if Morgan kicked straight it might have been differrent story he got a fair bit of the ball an wasted a lot of opportunities, anyway i really think Colbo out smarted H/cote and played their ground to perfection on the other hand H/Cote made some bad choices which cost them,If this going to be the standered of football going into the finals,The finals series should be a ripper:thumbsu:

Heard the same myself yesty. Ribs or rib muscles pulled of the bone i think i heard. Elmores job will be made difficult without him
something else for bluey to whinge about.was at sats game elmore v hills and i am amazed at his comments in the addy.it seemed to me that elmore were playing a 7-8 man backline to give hayes room up forward, this contributed to the DOUR struggle at hills half forward line that he mentioned and seemed to instigate.as for the umps, did favour hills in 2nd half but all umps tend to do that when game is lop-sided but it was hayes who was instigating the physical contact in the goal square and could have had a number of frees paid against him.the guy on him done a good job all within the rules.maybe the pressure is getting to the blue.

I’ve never seen bloke as dejected as Doona was at work this morning. Didn’t want to talk football which is rare for the fella known at Nestle as “big footy”.

After going along to watch his boys Saturday I cant help think he is wasting his time at Broadford.

This is not a reflection on the football team at all but word in the crowd on Saturday was that the president overruled the coach and told his son to play reserves after Doona requested he play only seniors. Doona was too nice to cause a scene but it may have cost him a game of football or even the job that he keeps declaring he wants for another year.

One of your best kids doesn’t play yet sits and drinks cans all day, Tayls lasts ten minutes and then 3-4 blokes who play full games in the two’s arnt capable of running out the game when its there to be won I reckon the Roos were lucky to escape with a draw.

Don’t get upset big fella I know the time and effort you put in besides just footy stuff but its obvious u don’t have the support of people you think you do.

You have a lot of supporters on here and we all rate the job your doing in selling your club on and off the field but after seeing and hearing things on Saturday I reckon its time you listened to Sarah as you’re being taken for granted big time.

Come join the Swans in 2009 :thumbsu:

Bluey did the same thing last year before the finals if you all remember, sooked about umpires just before the finals. very strategic i reckon.

Bluey and Grant to Strath???????????? seems to be the word on the street.

Would try and take Hayes also i would reckon

Here, here Joey.

was absolutely disgraceful to hear that the President had decided to overrule the match committee and put the ambitions of the reserves coaching panel ahead of the senior one.

Not to mention the player sitting on the sideline and watching wth cans in his hands.

Was a p1ss poor effort from these two individuals on Saturday.

Question for you Broadford lads. Would Doona coach or become involved with a rival HDFL Club???

why in the hell does this crap happen, i get that footy clubs have to move on and i get that forward planning is required to do so, i dont get that there is a need to kick a bloke when he is down, the rumours over the past few weeks, the back stabbing, the underminning, why would any coach or player with any morals want to come into this, good clubs keep this stuff in house Doona deserves to be able to walk away with his pride in place, but it looks like all is being done to make sure that dont happen, if there are any of these so called Broadford people out there that realy give a sh-t about your club get in and support the guy in what looks to be his last few weeks at the helm, by f-ck he deserves it.

Not a Broadford person just flying the flag for a mate who loves his football club but Id be surprised if he would but if this riddell league thing goes ahead who knows he is a footy nut and disregard the past month or so he is pretty good at what he does

it seemed to me that elmore were playing a 7-8 man backline to give hayes room up forward, this contributed to the DOUR struggle at hills half forward line that he mentioned and seemed to instigate.

Yeah nah ...
