Finally, after 6 months of spin and rubbish talk, we can get down to the real deal starting this weekend.

Sounds like every side has improved since last year so its will be disappointing that four sides won't make finals, but thats footy.

Looking forward to our clash with Elmore. Think they will get a little surprise.

Tips for the weekend.

Mounts 6 goals - Davis to run all over Grant
Colbo 5 goals after being down in the 3rd Qtr - Weeks and James shootout
Heathcote by 5 goals - Huntly improving
LBU by 4 goals

Ladder after H&A's
Colbo
Heathcote
Mounts
North

LBU
Elmore
Huntly
W/Hills

Cheatley - Davis

Goalkicking - Weeks 80 goals

Mounts by 1 straight kick
Colbo 8 goals
Heathcote by 3 goals (very tempting to back huntly have heard massive preseason done and large number of handy recruits could be the surprise packet)
LBU by 5 goals (LBU i think will win flag, w/h also may be surprise packet midfield looks a lot more dangerous this year)

Ladder after H&A's
LBU
Colbo
Heathcote
North

W/Hills
Mounts
Elmore
Huntly

Cheatley - Davis

Goalkicking - Lobb

Good to see you backed up that statement (in bold) by pickin' them to come last.

Glad you printed that Redman, I nearly fell off my chair when I read that. Heard from a reliable source associated with a Bendigo club that Luke Saunders may have been in talks with a club out Toolleen way...wonder who that would be??

please see the bold above......

Can't not pick them to not finish bottom having not seen them play a proper game.
How many years have they finished bottom now? Bit hard to bet against it happening again without seeing a game.

Seen Huntly in a practice match this season and saw the LBU Heathcote game at Locky last year, based solely on those games would think Huntly would be a few,(5) goals maybe off those sides from last year, obviously they have improved and Huntly may have had some unavailable from praccy match.
One of their players was speaking about their summer fortunes and said they had something like 40 new players ,9 ex pioneers, at the club and 60 odd on their senior list.

Guess we'll find out in a couple of days won't we, I think most clubs have done well recruiting over the break and the league will be stronger, as for the struggling clubs they would need to have recruited out of sight to alter their fortunes this season. North Bendigo the dark horse for mine.

I think Colbo will win it hands down from what my sources tell me. They have a great blend of experienced vetrans in Kelly, Pinniger, Doak etc, have a nice mix of youth in weeks the hills and Jacobs boys and have got that taste of a premiership so I think they may be hard to beat for mine. Can anyone tell me who is captain of Colbo this year?

Pinniger. Not a bad gig to walk back into.

i reckon Mounts and North have to be the big improvers this year otherwise I would see it as failure. As a pass I would think top 2 for Mounts and North must play finals as a pass for the year and recruitment they have both achieved during off season. Any thoughts or too harsh on passes for both?

just callin' it the way I see it. Anyway Barge, The way I see it, Colbo have to go b2b with the blend of youth and experience, not to mention the very handy pick ups in the off season, yep Colbo then daylight for me, well I'll have a stab, 2. Mts 3. Got to be the rejuvinated Huntly, 4. LBU and Heathcote to battle it out in the Elim. Elmore just miss out. Dark GG would be WH to sneak in and put a Demon amongst Pidgeons (if you will). Oh crap, Forgot Nth, they picked up as well:mad:. I give up.:thumbsu:

Best wishes to all you fella's for successful 2009 campaigns, sure am going to miss the HDFL having thoroughly enjoyed being back around the previous two seasons.

Ive no idea on a ladder considering the only two clubs that haven't appeared to back themselves and talk finals out loud are the Hawks and Bart's Hillies so its best to give it 4-6 weeks and we'll know more. Again based on little info I'll have a stab at round 1.

Elmore by 5pts -
Colbo by 13 pts
Heathcote by 57 pts
LBU by 39pts

Cheatley - Anderson (H'cte); Davis (Mts); Weeks (Colbo)

Goalkicking - Aaron James (113); Weeks & Davies (90 odds); Waters (80). Some pretty pricey midfields this year should provide some value for money delivery up forward - which I hope for you HDFL fans turns into some entertaining hauls booted along the way.

Good luck :thumbsu:

I can see your point on the surface where Mounts have picked up two very handy players in Davis & Davies. However, remembering how far away Mounts were last year, then taking into account the players they have lost from last year - Carter, Shannon, Krueger, Johnson. 3 that played a large percentage in the midfield. Mounts will be banking on some younger guys to step up to the plate in the midfield this year. To say anything under top 2 would be a failure may be a bit harsh. As Doona has stated recently. 5-6 weeks in will tell a story. Probably a bit of recruiting left to be done yet too. North may need to finish top 4 to be deemed not a failure in my books.

There are more additions than just Davis and Davies......stay tuned!

Would that be in regards to Luke Saunders maybe joining Mounts as well?

Who else as I believe a couple of handy players from Square who arent in the 1sts have also been spoken to?

Need some names not crytic clues.

That wasn't a cryptic clue...a cryptic clue would be: Northern Exposure
