Doubt it. Rochy boys think the HDFL is a joke and the only way they'd play in the league is if it was for a bit of $, which has been stated Huntly doesnt have very much of it.

Knighta is only a young fella (23-24?) and loves his partying way to much.

Rochy boys should come have a look at our finals series and see how much of a joke it is. This years finals are going to be great

Yeah coz after a fair bit of hype about the Tiges in 2007 it appears that aprt from supporting their two's who looka a real show they will be free of football commitments by then

Have to agree with you there Nesko, Knighta will be 23 in October and while he is a highly skillful player I don't think he is coaching material - at this stage anyway.

On the other hand however, I don't think the Huntly situation off the field is as bad as its being made out to be. While they aren't as financially stable as the non-Bendigo based clubs they are nowhere near bankrupt either, they have 60+ registered senior players, 30 odd juniors and good netball numbers. The problem with their club is the quality of their senior playing list. They are in the vicious cycle of not being able to attract high quality players because of their lack of success, which is being caused by their inability to attract high quality players.
What I believe Huntly needs is a major sponsor or a core group of sponsors that will inject some extra funds into the club in order to attract five or six high class players which will give the club a chance of being competitive. The flow on effect of that will be that it will become easier recruiting players to a competitive club and they won't be needing to pay them as much.
The club was on the right track with recruiting Daniel Geary but as good as he was for Eaglehawk, one man does not make a team. That's why the club needs the sponsorship and that needs to be the focus of the Huntly commitee. Until that happens the club is in no danger of folding but will not see any improvement of their on-field efforts.

Dont forget the one man wrecking machine Garry Moulday. Has kicked 10 in the last couple of weeks in the 2's and could be responsible for lifting the Hawks to a win in the last couple of games. This human ball of muscle is set to smash anything in his way.:thumbsu:

Oh Yeah, Fantom attended the Huntly FNC meeting this afternoon. Congratulations guys on a great turn out. Initiative always wins.:thumbsu:[/quote]

I went along for a look as well, good turn out of approx 60 people with a large number of apologies. It was also positive to see league officials in attendance.
It is obvious that the club is in no immediate dander of folding, they are financial and very competant in all area's apart from the Senior footy team (which all clubs are ultimately judged on). There was a form people could fill out if they wanted to help out in an official capacity for next year (committee, sponsorship etc).... it looked like they had a bundle of these at the end of the meeting but the success, or otherwise, of it will be determined at the AGM in October.
The club is challenging all past players, supporters & sponsors to return to the fold next year and help to lift the club off the bottom:thumbsu:

That would be good news for everyone concerned RUS, the league needs to retain the Hawks but at the same time Huntly also need to be strong and viable for their own sake. Looking forward to the outcome after the AGM and Doona, never say never!:D:D:D

Shawn would be equally as good. Not sure how much footy either of them have left in them though. Would be a massive coup for Huntly.

I reckon that might be thier go. Get a high profile person from somewhere, like a Filo and momentum and other signings will follow. Who are some other people who would match the profile of a Filo???

Dennis Grinton

Unfortunately didn't get to play alongside Grints, but why would he go there? Surely he would return to Mounts

Reckon Dennis coached them back when I actually had the occasional kick meself, and from memory was nearly the last time the Hawks contested finals.

Fair enough. I seriously reckon that this is there go. They somehow need to get someone with a huge profile, sign them to a multi year deal and let them build the joint. I just can't see any ground being made if they don't do soemthing outrageous. I have seen it from the inside at Lalbert. Think outside the square i reckon

yeah i am hearing you roota. huntly need blokes who know there footy. they were not far off the mark last year. a better improvement on the previous years. then this year for some reason or another could not keep the same group off players. dennis was the last coach to get huntly to the finals. but once again for one reason or another he was sacked.

Had a bit of trouble with a young bloke who's old man may have been on the committee for memory. Personally I think they need a bloke with a bit more footy left in him than Grinton (would be around 36 now) and could commit to at least three years. Once their social room is up and running there will be more cash to throw around and I believe that is on the way.

Doona, what is the go with the rubbish senior side in Friday's Addy? Hall in F.Pocket, Bray in ruck (both obviously played twos). Putting in a fake side doesn't trick anyone (especially if the team doesn't get up on Saturday) it just makes the whole process of putting in sides a bit of a farce. What are your thoughts?
