i suppose it is a clubs perogative to play a player what they want. there is very little point in having money in a football club and not spending it. if you are paying a player well, and they perform well on the weekend, make training are a regular at social do's and throwing it back over the bar you would be content to pay the dollars, its when these criterias and probably a few more are not meet, it can cause a bit of tension.
i'm lead to belive there is no salary cap in the league, even if there was, how would the league police it???

The salary cap was abolished in the VCFL a few years ago. Prime example of how rediculous the cap was when Heathcote, in 1996, put in a statement of player payments to the league which you had to do every month, and they were $5 or $10 over their cap. They copped a $100 fine which was fair enough, the only problem was that they were sitting last on the ladder!!! Now I know their might be a few of you who would say that they may have been paying duds etc. etc. but I totally agree with Andy when he says that there is absolutely no way of policing it and clubs, probably including ours, rorted it for years. Waiting for my yellowbelly Ump, be home around 7.

I was waiting on your comments on the old salary cap...
Realy my point was i hope no club pays a player 1,000 a game in the HDFL
A lot of clubs could not compete against clubs paying that sort of money

P/S the great P frenchman caught 4 Yellow's i piped him i caught 6
had a good feed Sat night with a few cans.......
I bring u around some dim sims:)

If James Hird made himself available to play with Heathcote next year and wanted a thousand a game, wouldn't the club bend over backwards to ensure that he played. You will always find the money my friend, through people coming through the gate, bar takings, etc. etc. If you get the right player Onions, you pay what you can.

Well big ump i think you may be disappointed.. Not too many blokes in this league get that sort of Kanga but there are one or two. In regards to other leagues as Doona mentioned, plenty of blokes earn that.
The top six players at Tooleybuc and Balranald are on that plus some.

I say if you can afford it and you get the right mix, why not. The thing is you want to attract good footballers who are also great blokes. Who train, contribute in other ways on and off the field, tip a bit of money back in and teach the young blokes. Easier said than done alot of the time.

Ump I'm also informed you left your mate O'Bree at home as you were worried he may outfish you.:p Anyway some of that yella sounds alright.:D

U may be correct, but in the long run the club will run out of money they r then back to square one.... long hard years of rebuilding...
U tend to forget my friend Heathcote is a example in there glory days with plenty of money they would buy what they would like to win...
But when the money run out and bad decisions by the committee it was back to a hard long slog of rebuilding which i think has taken at least 10 years........
I firmly believe clubs should not go out pay big money iam talking $700 upwards for players.......Iam not saying not to by players but just use a bit of common sense
These days u must do what ever u can to keep hold of your kids that come through your under age grades which we did not have back then..
I suppose what iam trying to say some time over the coming year's each and one of the club's playing HDFL will come to grief over bad management (payments made to player's)

Heard over the weekend that the boys from Onion grass park have been busy spending prior to tax time and have signed two players from the Bendigo Bombers, not sure how the new vcfl rules apply there though as i thought they would not qualify for finals.

Anyone else heard this one???

From what I've seen these days you must pay players, even locals or they will look else where. but if you create a good club atmosphere the players will want to stay. A good example of this is Elmore, they have a good social life and its benifits are on the ground with the likes of Wes, Cails, Pedretti and co staying put there for a number of years.

After the club has a good core 14-15 players then it can afford to go out and but those extra 4 players that could well win them the flag. Heres a question for you Doona, when you negoiate players contracts do you pay them per game or for the whole year? It would become very expensive id a player is rubbed out through injury or suspension.

Good quote Nesko, I can remember Elmore struggling in early 80's they have turned it arounnd....
A lot of hard work,, and this must happen all the time at football club's..
Once it stop's the money stop's and every think else stop's including the social life..
And then your back to square one....REBUILDING
I say it again this will happen to all HDFL club's in years to come:thumbsu:

Look out roota you might lose your spot in the side bloke coming from williamstown and now the bendigo bombers. The crops musta had a good strike. What a joke!

Was just wondering if the Addy was going to do a write up like they did for the LVFL, with the predicted finish, players to watch etc. Maybe if the goat reads this he might be able to tell me because the Hdfl doesnt seem to get as much coverage. Is this due to staff or unable to get info?

Browny started like housw on fire in first 3 rounds mate but then unfortunately did his hammy. has been back the last 2 weeks was very good against elmore, and from all accounts no one played well for colbo on the weekend. browny is a class above and has fitted in well out at colbo most of all top bloke!

No one is writing Colbo off Stringy 8-1 is a great start to the year. As for Locky i managed to catch up with him after the game for a beer. He seems a good bloke. He is very intense on the ground which can look ordinary at times. No doubt a top player and one of the comps best
funny you say lock gives cheap shots cause thats all shay griffin steve humphreys and ben mcleary threw all day. locky clearly to classy for this league and would be the toughest you might throw the odd one to if you got smahed and kicked every week! once again mounts were running there cheap mouths again on the weekedn and might have fogot they might have to play colbo a couple more times before the yrs out. you guys running your mouth about lock and colbo on this web site better think twice next time or start showing up and say it to there face! mountain men you have just started a war!

War! ahh thats the spirit!!!

Andy: Damian Ellis got back from UK last week, trained last thurs and might be having a run this week, fitness and other things pending. Billy Odgen played his first senior game on the weekend since 2004 GF and finished in colbo's best. Great effort for a guy who had 2 ankle reco's - would be easy to stop playing after the success he has had at the hoppers.
On the down side, Easty lasted just 5 mins in his return match to the club on the weekend and suffered a shoulder injury. Hopefully not the last we see of him. Would be handy to have in the senior side leading into september.

dont think many mounts blokes have been running their mouths about them on this website, just one comment about his cheap shoots- just as you have run your mouth off about three mounts blokes, the others have only said it would have been a frustrating day for him. i think everyone got as good as they gave from what i saw. do you blame a bloke for sticking up for his 17 year old brother in his third game of seniors when lock gives him one in the side of the head? and maybe check with locky and linno what comments they made that may have caused some push and shove. you may find linno even appolagised for it. and all that said it happened on the field and thats where it stayed, everyone enjoyed a drink together after it like mounts and colbo always do.

A JET if you read my post again which i probably suggest you do you will see that at no stage did i say that Locky gave any cheap shots. I did say however that me and Locky met and had a beer after the game which was great. I am about playing footy meeting blokes and havin a beer not slagging of people on the internet which I HAVE NOT done. Read again Champ

Exactly Sordreo. I honestly think that it was just a hard fought game contested by 2 top quality sides. Not sure who AJET is or whether he played for Colbo on the weekend but saying that a war has been started is absolutley ridiculous
