It gets frequently reposted on the Eagles board for obvious reasons.
Hahahaha, oh what an absolute joke of a paper. And its stable mates the DT and Courier Mail are both equally stupid.

This is the biased Victorian media which whingers from outside of Victoria (e.g Kwality ) are forever complaining about. Basically, it's the Melbourne media catering to their market and trying to boost their sales & clicks by any means necessary. If it's Richmond or Collingwood on a roll or in flag contention, then they dominate the footy news.

Makes me laugh when Eagles, Dockers, Crows, Power, Swans and Lions fans complain about their teams & players not getting a fair run. FMD. You want to try living in Melbourne and barrack for any club who isn't part of the Coll/Rich/Ess/Carl "big four" cabal.

e.g. Hawks will thump the Pies and move into the Top 4 (or 1st place) and the lead story will be "Pies in Crisis". Every time! 😆
If Collingwood win, they're the story. If they lose, they're the story... Same with Tigers, Bombers and to a lesser extent, the Blues.

At least, the non-Vic clubs are properly catered for in their local media markets. Maybe not so great in NSW or Qld, but you'll have your own page with club news most days.

I rank clubs to support in a grand final in different categories:
Category 1: Richmond - because they are the greatest club in the land
Category 2: "Break the drought" clubs - e.g. Melbourne, St Kilda - for all their supporters who weren't even born last time they won one.
Category 3: "Bottom" clubs - e.g. Brisbane, Carlton - for the supporters who were there for the years of pain.
Category 4: "Whatever" clubs - e.g. North Melbourne, Freo, GWS. I'll forget about the GF an hour after it's been played.
Category 5: "Not again" clubs - e.g. Hawthorn, Geelong, Sydney, WCE - plenty of success in recent years. Will only half watch the game.
Category 6: "Scum" clubs - e.g. Adelaide. We've all got our clubs we love to hate as individuals. For me it's the Crows.
Category 7: Collingwood - the club everyone loves to hate.

A great GF is category 1 vs anyone.
A good GF is category 2/3 vs category 6/7.
An ok GF is category 3/4 vs category 5/6/7.

Worst case scenario is category 6 vs category 7. Get drunk and sledge players. Classy.

Bold 1: That was almost the grand final in 2015.
Bold 2: Just avoided that one this year with Geelong vs Collingwood.

I have no idea why you decided to get up on your soapbox and embark on a rant. All I said was that the Herald Sun is a pathetic joke of a paper, as are its sister papers in both Sydney and Brisbane, precisely because they are "trying to boost their sales & clicks by any means necessary", including some ridiculous attempt to boost pan-Victorianism. That's all. How that feeds into half the things you wrote, I don't know.

Having a bad day, mate?

It's okay. :rainbow:

My constant whinge (Eagles fan living by choice in Melb) is off these clowns pumping up their own tyres referring to themselves as national commentators, they are all the same, covering their local clubs.

This is just standard Newcorp 101. All their papers are the same. They play up to parochialism. It's standard operating procedure.

Have a mate who was running the Adelaide Advertiser and was moved to Brisbane to run the Courier Mail. Asked him how it was going. To which he replied, yeah it's pretty easy, I just do the same stories but replace the Crows with the Broncos. He wasn't joking either.

How the's form on the Eagles fans in here, what a bunch of hypocrites.
The sooking from some of them last year because Nat Fyfe dared say he wanted Collingwood to win.
"should be supporting WA" was the common cry.
Now they complain about Victorians doing the same thing.

The sanctimonious carry on from eagles supporters is exactly why Freo fans cant stand them.

Also there are some on here sprouting that most Freo fans are ex eagles supporters.
Why would you change from the Eagles to Freo? especially if you were living in WA and coming off two premierships.

That's because no one did, most Freo fans left Victorian clubs or simply had refused to jump on West Coast bandwagon.
Also have a look at WAFL attendances before and after Freo joined, especially the two Freo clubs as there was quite a drop off.
The other one was a lot of younger people got on board in the late 90's early 2000's as it was easy to get a ticket to the games.

Replying because 1 like isnt enough. 😄

What's become quite evident this finals series is just how threaten most West Coast supporters on here appear to be. It's quite amusing, are they concerned if Richmond win a second flag in 3 years then last years flag might not seem so great? That's a pretty big chip on their shoulder if true LOL

All in all though who neutral supporters choose to barrack for on Grand Final day is totally irrelevant and makes no difference to the result on the day.

Keep on hating West Coast supporters :tearsofjoy:

I don't know why the media persists with this rubbish. Year after year, we hear "Insert Victorian team" carry states hopes.

Anyone who understands tribal footy culture going back 100 years, knows that we as Victorians hate the other Victorian clubs. It's the same in the EPL and any tribal localised sporting league. Richmond do not carry the hopes of Victoria, nor should they. They carry the hopes of their own fans. You'd think the Herald-Sun would be beyond this rubbish, as this is now the 8th consecutive year a Victorian club has met a non-Victorian club. I expected this sort of crap in the early 90's when the national comp was just fledging, but not in 2019.

If supporters of other Victorian teams go all in Tigers I'll be very disappointing. When the Pies played the Eagles I was all Eagles.

Traditional rivalry is much stronger than state loyalty.

Ha! Welcome to our world - none of them could bring themselves to support Freo in 2013. Big club with the public persona of a sulking teenager. If they went without success for three years half their supporters would disappear.

What an odd comment. Why on earth would any WCE fan want to support Fremantle in a Grand Final? And vice versa. I cheered Hawthorn like they were my own team that day. I expect the majority of Fremantle supporters would have done the same (well maybe not “cheering” as such, depending on their own feelings towards Hawthorn and Collingwood) in 2015 and 2018. I would never expect any Fremantle supporter to want the Eagles to win a Grand Final 😂

Besides the Bulldogs in 2016, I’ve never wanted a Victorian team to win against a non Victorian side. I think most of the hate for teams these days is because of the supporters they know that make it unbearable in the aftermath. Herald Sun is out of touch and I highly doubt any Tiger fan would be hurt that oppo fans aren’t trying to jump on board the train.

I have already purchased my GWS scarf this week. And I don’t really like them very much.

Hear hear

Why is it that people think the Vic media needs to be impartial, but are OK with other states media cheerleading?

I dare say the WA media last year (or the SA media in 2017) wasn't any more impartial than the Vic media is this year.

I don’t get it either.
I have mates in Perth who I caught up with last December and everyone over there was trying to give it to me about them beating the Vic’s in the GF.
I think they were genuinely disappointed when I laughed and explained that they were kidding themselves, Victorians were going for them and rapt the Pies lost.
