favourites..
ekc have to be the outright favourites with an absolute star studded side. look the goods with consistent wins in there pool games. most players from this side draft hopefuls. play st joeys in the semi, in the other pool the outright progressing team would have to be paying short odds for the day on the g. this pool very strong featuring pegs, ack, spc, c c bendigo, some great games here with assumption looking to go through undefeated if they triumph over st pats tomorrow. all in all ekc look set to beat joeys in the semi and favourites for the shield. however if ack gets up tomorrow (good chance) they should prevail over de la salle in the other semi and go in the dark horse after some upsets. not much known about ack, i know theyre a tight knit group from a report from ray carroll, jamie sheahan should have an impact as i here he can play footy. however cant expect st pats to lay down with the quality of players like nick suban, ross smith and ben hayes. with forwarda rex hickman and jack dunnen kicking bags in recent weeks. they play a running game which if utilised will suit them on the wide expanses of the st pats main oval. inaccuracy in recent weeks may cost them, with scores such as 13.21, 12.13 and 4.15n the telling stats posted by the spc side. spc must win by over forty to have a chance of sneaking through. assumption wins and they move on undefeated into what may be an mcg birth. my prediction, ack to move on and beat a lacklustre de la salle, st joeys to go down heavily to ekc who will be superior in all aspects with there individual superstars, ack and ekc grand final, may it be the case in which a champion team beats a team of champions? ekc is to hard to pass up for the win with names like mckernan and the like, so by logic theyre in for the win, but assumption has something else, so i wouldnt be surprised if we see something miraculous. its happened before on the g...

by the sounds of it...wednesday's game between ack and st pats is going to be a cracker.
will be interesting to see if sheahan and suban are able to take their places in the sides.
ack also helped by inclusion of key backmen Vale, Comi and Hill which will really strengthen them.

result from today's ack vs st pats game?

ACK keeps on rolling

by Matt Nicholls

A FULL-strength side, ferocious tackling, strong marking and straight kicking were the key facets to Assumption College’s first XVIII football win over St Patrick’s College on Wednesday.
In gloomy but otherwise good conditions at Ballarat, ACK was in control all match, winning by 39 points.
Led terrifically by captain Jamie Sheahan, Assumption’s win was rated one of the best of all time by long-time coach Ray Carroll.
The victory advances the Dark and Light Blues to the semi-finals of the Herald Sun Shield competition.
In ACK’s long history, the first XVIII has played in 17 shield semis and won 13, so it appears the odds are in favour of the Kilmore students.
On Wednesday, in typical Ballarat winter conditions – cold, dull and foggy – Assumption simply refused to give their rivals a sniff of victory.
Small forward Liam Ryan was superb in the first half with three goals and was a livewire in ACK’s attacking zone.
Midfielders Jackson Garvey-Hawke and Will Holman were terrific around the stoppages and won their fair share of clearances to give the visitors the upper hand.
But it was Assumption’s defensive pressure which was decisive.
Normally in school football the matches will be fast, free flowing and high scoring, but the ACK lads refused to give their rivals any room.
Led in defence by Sam Vale, the Dark and Light Blues continually had their St Pat’s rivals under the pump.
Only on the rare occasion did a Ballarat player find space in the forward line.
In what was a terrific team effort from Assumption, the other standouts were Dion Prestia, Luke Gestier, Quaide Comi and James Lawton.
But the player who stood out above all and looked a class above the rest was Sheahan.
As a midfielder he was amongst everything, and he covers more territory than any other by far. From taking the kick-outs from defence to becoming an attacking option up forward (two goals), it appears certain the skipper will be drafted this year if he nominates.
Former Bulldog and Brownlow Medallist Scott Wynd has taken an active role as assistant coach to Assumption’s first XVIII this year and has been a revelation to the side’s young players.
All the students are appreciative of his work and say that he is the best specialist coach they have worked with to date.
Head coach Ray Carroll said he was appreciative of Wynd’s support, saying that Melbourne colleges would be paying a fortune for former AFL stars to coach, whereas Wynd pitches in for free.
Carroll said he certainly believed the retired ruckman had a future in coaching at AFL level.
St Patrick’s College has a proud footballing history and along with Assumption College would have produced more AFL/VFL footballers than the next five colleges in Victoria put together.
Wednesday’s game was certainly expected to be a close encounter, with the home side’s skipper, Nick Suban, a highly talented prospect and captain of the Vic Country.
But the Ballarat leader was well held by Mick Cussen in the first half, before retiring to the bench in the second half to stay fit for state duties.
The next step for Assumption in the Herald Sun Shield will be the semi-final next month – against De La Salle or St Bernards. The game will be played at Port Melbourne’s TEAC Oval.
With no AGSV match this Saturday, the Dark and Light Blues are expecting to put their feet up and rest their niggling injuries.
Cussen, Ryan and Jack Renton were all unable to finish the match on Wednesday but are hoping to be right to play in the next match on Saturday, June 14.
ACK 5.1, 9.1, 13.3, 18.3 (111) d

Q.Does the Herald sun shield have it's own website where all results from all pools can be accessed and if so what is it? Would appreciate anybody's help.

if EKC get through the semi's against st joeys i will be at the MCG for sure, if a team of banner, white, shcroder, carroll playing through the midfield and rotating forward, wuld be a pleasure to watch if they play as a team, and it would be great to watch banner and whites skills to hit up the big fella mckernan sitting somewhere in the forward 50. The good thing is about EKC is there local footballers who are stepping up to the mark, papalia, mahloney, hoban, i watched at vermont last week and it was unbelieveable how a game culd turn by 3 players coming on the field, white banged on 3, banna kicked 1 and missed to easy ones and carroll kicked i think 4 behinds in the third quarter lol, if someone can stop that sort of smashing on the scoreboard i would really like to see it, Full strength EKC are on of the best skool sides you will watch around victoria

you forgot andy duhau add him to that midfield to and they really are a good team

ekc are obviously still red hot favourites with their well publicised list full of gun players who on their day could tear apart a team within a matter of minutes (as apparently seen against box hill). the only thing to be determined is who they come up against in the final (sorry st. joeys), and at this stage it looks to be assumption who after soundly beating st pats in a classy and often heated contest progressed from easily the strongest pool. what it will come down to on the day is whether ekc's highly rated players (banner, white, mckernan etc.) can outclass ack's lesser known opponents (sheahan, gestier, garvey-hawke, talia etc.). what makes me lean the way of ack is the fact that they are a little unknown as they are well known for getting a lot of the best footballers from northern victoria and throughout the riverina in southern nsw. with a slight cockiness, i can see these boys from the country over powering their metropolitan counterparts with a spirited effort of which the dark and light blues are renowned for. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

you are all forgetting that joeys have played their full strength sides for like a half in each game and winning by 90+. they have a gun midfield with likes oh sam hughes and hugh hunter who are super tac cup players. Allen " bundy" Christensen plays state footy and is the general in defence and sets up very well, Ben bucovaz freak show. Joeys boys will give a shot dont worry about that

just dont get why everyone keeps on underating de la. maybe every other teams not rating de la boys is a good thing, and they fact that everyone in the southern hemisphere is blowing smoke up the ekc behinds might put pressure on this team to win. Semis should be interesting

very true. de la seem to be already written off but are a bit of an unknown.
anyone know anything about them?
results from their group/best performances?

Played them last week and the game didnt mean anything as whitefriars and de la were already scheduled to meet in the Grand Final (ACC). We got trounced, they are a very strong mob, and they were missing alot of vital players as were we.

2 Metro players + of other TAC players, don't under estimate them

Did this tall kid play at fullback or in the backline

Yer i was down at the friars de la game, and they looked the goods, had a small forward who had a bit of flair about him, snagging a bag, he may be one to watch come november. As i have heard rumours of recruiters being at there games, they must go alright.

I dont care who wins the HSS to be honest...I think footy will be the real winner...All those young boys playing for there school to earn the respect for there fellow mates and friends...

Just doesnt get any better than that :D
