The AFL has to recover lost ground here. Not for the first time the AFL under Vlads rule put the image of the game ahead of its integrity when it focused on recreational drugs whilst ignoring the real problem that is PEDs - a problem that has been brought to light initially by an unrelated ACC investigation
We all want a clean sport, not the illusion of one, and for that to happen we need a system that we have confidence in to weed out the cheats

i dont see neither as problems. fame, groupies, money, sport = coke. it is to be expected. especially when they are 18,19.20,21, and need to have skinfolds in single digits, and have to get up at 6am to be on st kilda beach.
you cant allow them to be young men on the piss. coke and other drugs allows you to get on it over the weekend and make recovery at 6am. allows you to keep the skinfolds down.
now what are the skinfolds. they are a reverse engineered indicator of other factors to gauge a players body. they want to measure endurance and diet, and how disciplined your are keeping your body in shape to run under 10 mins for the tan, and how you are not getting on the dimmies with lance whitnall on saturady at the reservoir FC game.
but what if they players can accomplish this with methamphetamine, coke, clenbuterol, AOD, and other drugs, and pop epo and testo to get around the tan in under 10 mins. they can accomplish what the sports scientists wish to measure. but they did not accomplish them with the means they wished to accomplish them with.
see how this focus on metrics and measurement, will not parse the forest from the trees. they are focusing on the inconsequential measureable aspects, skin folds, to determine the discipline in diet and training for O2 fitness. skin folds really should not matter. the fact that a utility/flanker/onballer is holding his aerobic fitness at an 11min Tan time, without getting help from testo and epo, is what matters. with other things measurable like bench/squat/deadlift.
focus on these things, has forced players hands, to let off steam with coke and amphetamines, instead of writing themselves off on Saturday with 12 pots. Also, the tabloid media will look on a 12 pot screamer with more spotlight, versus a shadow in the night, you see him, you dont see him, on coke or other drugs. unless you pass out on king street.

Made for interesting viewing, but the meeting of the 'architects' was allegedly Dank, Robinson, Hird. Unless there's some sort of tangible evidence, you couldn't currently believe any one version of events over another, could you? Should be discounted for the time being in favour of any actual evidence.
References to other clubs - my own included - may have only been paranoia / supposition to justify whatever program was embarked upon, but if ASADA chooses to investigate - no-one has anything to fear if they've been playing by the rules. What's good for the goose is good for the gander

biggest tell is all the type A personalities (every player rostered) in the league, one and all have come out in support for jobe and windy hill. but they stage for free kicks like joel selwood on saturday? so what gives? oh, can i turn my brain back on and tell you <generic youze> what gives.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but I like the fact that Hirdy hates Hawthorn/ Hawthorne more than anyone else.
When he was playing the Hawks were not a huge force on the field. Since the Hawks have been strong again Essendon have been off the pace. I can only assume then that he Hates them more than anyone else because of the rivalry during the eighties when he was still in short pants.
I don't like James Hird, but I kinda love that after all he has achieved in the game he is still driven by the passions and angst of the young fan. He clearly bleeds for the bombers, and though I suspect there may yet need to be a little more blood before this is finished I don't know if I want a hanging anymore.

epo, micro dosing straight into the vein, drink lots of water, a 6am test wont catch you.
and for a footballer, they perhaps never exhaust their O2 potential in the blood. even Clarke at Hawthorne, or Crawford, or Mitchell of Sydney, they are not restricted by their lack of O2 in their blood. this said, more O2 can help for sprint repeats (which is the Goodwin running that Neil Craig programmed into the Crows running drill). And EPO also helps Olympic sprinters during heavy blocs of training, to recover for the next session. i suppose, a little like the hyperbaric chambers. more O2 floating in you red cells, is gonna help recovery.

the guy aged 40 years. Anthony Mundine was a very good looking athlete when he was 25. this lines in the muscle in his forehead, are cos of the androgens i bet you. hoave a look at the forehead growth.
he was not KB who looked 50 when he turned 18.

In your world BC everyone is dirty but its not quite how I see the world. ( eg.I just read Seven Deadly Sins about Armstrong and cycling and plenty of people, even in that environment do the right thing, or try to). I don't believe Hird and co were villainous or cheating. They just got a bit desperate and it clouded their judgement. Thompson probably didn't like everything he was seeing and who knows -did he tell Hird to settle down? did he go along with his long time friend and colleague with reservations? Whilst I don't accept the 'what does a coach know' line, especially at this club where they knowingly pushed the boundaries, its likely they just stuffed up, thought they had it under control, but didn't and they will have to cop to it. But that doesn't make Thompson or even golden boy evil.
You're right, they are not evil, but all this has exposed a significant character flaw in Hird and sadly he has brought down his club in a more harmful manner than at any time in the sports history.

Like the leaks of players medical data to Calzada, this isnt particularly important - especially not compared to the real issue of which of the drugs Essendon players took were banned by WADA.
But it is important for purposes of putting together a narrative for the mass of fans, of softening them up for massive penalties.
Basically, both of them make Essendon look secretive, furtive and - in all - dodgy.
This story also puts Hird where he should be, which is at the front and center of this program, and re-emphasises the close contact between Dank and Hird.

.Essendon and Hird have denied that Hird had active involvement in the drug program. Essendon has been spinning that he just shot of a email saying it need to be legal and that was really the end of Hirds involvement as he trusted robinson to manage dank.
The evidence now is that Hird was involved with the drug program up to his very large ears.
