The point is that standing up for your beliefs is only to be congratulated if those beliefs don't make you a campaigner of a person. Standing up for your racist, sexist, homophobic etc views is a bad thing.

Hang on a minute, Hitlers beliefs were happily accepted in Germany at the time, Mandela was jailed and tortured for his, Ali was humiliated and banned from making a living and Christ was murdered - all within the laws applicable to their situations.
