I've Met Abdul a couple of times. He's one of the best Artists out of Perth, Probably in Australia and still fairly young.
Sickened by the idelogical attack on him here. It's obviously a portrayal and sympathises what servicemen go through with the pain and hurt they feel, I dispise a lot of millitary circlejerking however there is a real problem of sending people overseas, putting them through hell and not looking after them as well as we can. It's cheap political point scoring that someones upset that a dude name Adbul has dared questioned how we look after people after deployment.
On Israel, He can absolutely **** off. The ARU has been a ****ing basketcase since 2012 and im dissapointed they folded, but not suprised, as they didnt want to face a legal battle to fold the obvious choice in the Rebels, Im suprised they didnt want to cop a smashing from the Private schools and religious brothers like our POS prime minister and went the easy route to pay Israel to be quiet.
No ****ing wonder it's a booming sport all around the world and especially in Asia, but we can't do shit to grow it because it's ruled by private school snobs in NSW/ACT

But how can one tell whether beliefs are campaignerish or not? Everyone seems to have strong moral opinions, yet disagreement is common. How can that be, and is there a way to objectively decide which opinion is best?
It is almost as if morality is a strong instinct, but ultimately has no basis.
re the Bible and homosexuality. Leviticus Ch 20 says they should be put to death, and that treatment is approved of in the new testament in Romans 1.
I'm neither Christian nor homosexual, but I think I'd be conflicted if I was.
Side note - my high school class used to make life difficult for our RE teachers by asking questions based on the weirdest bits of the bible. Leviticus was a goldmine, with Ezekial and Deuteronomy not far behind. Yes, I was a brat.

Not sure how people expect a 2000 year old text to retain potent relevancy given how much the world's changed. Sheesh you could take any number of books written late last century that are now hopelessly out of date.
The big issue is the simple-minded & ignorant treating its' words as gospel, admittedly a much larger problem for Islam than Christianity where its now common practice to re-interpret passages of the Bible that plainly no longer make sense if taken literally.
Unfortunately that invites religious nutters to claim the Bible was meant to be interpreted, allowing them to happily ignore its' craziness and take whatever meaning they please out of it. Although that's probably the best way for anyone to approach reading it -as fiction and to draw their own conclusions- what scares me is folks like American Christian right-wingers "finding" references to Israel and Cruise Missiles in there and using it to justify another holy war that could well be the end of all of us.
I could just as easily find and endless stream of priceless life lessons reading David Copperfield but geez I'm not about to base my bloody life around it.
No doubt countless horrible things have been done in the name of Christianity -just ask former Richmond ambassador George Pell- but to suggest the Bible and Koran are exactly the same with regards to their ability to incite followers to violence is sheer ignorance. When was the last time you saw a Christian wearing suicide vest shouting "Jesus is great!". Yeah didn't think so.
