Is Hoops a keeper this year or is he just teasing us ? your thoughts ?

He'll be one of the last i upgrade if at all with Higgins.

Skippy and Krakour would be my 3rd and 4th last and maybe Rich but only time will tell.

I've put him in keeper bracket. With Carlton's midfeild so dominant he can run through there with a lot of freedom. I dont see that changing any time too soon.

There are a number of people that you pick in your team that begin as players you are going to upgrade but turn into keepers. You need this to avoid using too many trades.

Houlihan, Rich and Higgins all look like likely types to fit into this category at the moment.

I am not making any definite decisions on this after round 3 tho

These type of questions are actually the strategy of the game.

Houlihan could be a keeper with around 90-100 points a game. But if you see a chance to upgrade then you would take it.

Either way, you win.

He is my forward line and is behind 2 backs, 2 mids (Rich incl) and 2 forwards in terms of upgrade targets.

Knew he would have a good year with the rising Blues, still its early and it takes POW! one injury to **** it all up.

If he is, he is.

If he isn't, he won't be upgraded for quite a while unless you're a nutcase.

Either way it's a great position to be in. Houlihan's only the 16th most popular player with 79k coaches holding him.

If Houlihan keeps averaging around a 100 then he is definately a keeper.Theres only going to be about a dozen backs that will average over 100 this year and most wont even go over a 110 average so if he keeps that average up there is really no need to waste a trade upgrading him

With games against Sydney, Bulldogs and Hawthorn coming up in the next 3 weeks, you will get a much clearer idea what he is capable of playing against teams that put a bit of defensive pressure on the opposition players. Lets face it, Carlton has so far played 3 teams that most would consider play an unaccountable type of footy.

If he drops back to getting 60s against the 'good' teams then he should be upgraded towards finals incase Carlton play a decent side.

If he merrily continues ripping out 90s in the next 3 weeks he is definitely worth keeping.

I kept swapping Raines and Hoops during the pre-season. Fancy guessing which one I decided on?

I think I've missed the boat now- if I want Hoops in I'll either have to eat into my kitty and do Raines, or even more from the kitty and do Hill, or trade Malceski. Not to mention using a trade, which I haven't done yet.

Tell I'm silly for even contemplating this?

I'm thinking of keeping him, along with Higgins and possibly Rich.

That's the ticket. It's just too early to tell.

Come round 7 though- when it's key upgrading time, you'll know.

The sad thing is though, come round 7, if he puts on 3 60's... then his first three hungies aren't going to mean much... (see: $327,352 with a breakeven of about 100.) Then it will be a tough call...
