How are the new draftees looking?

Locks them up a little longer, which means that Freo will have a better idea of their long term worth before they come out of contract, meaning they they can more confidantly sign them long term to a deal that they believe is valuable.

Also good for the kids in that they get an extra year of guaranteed money in their pursuit of a footy career - Both sides have their interest in it, but it could potentially go badly for Freo, either if they turn out not to be worth the third year (especially unlikely in Palmer's case) or they really blow up by their third year and command much bigger contracts than after their 2nd years.

For Adelaide the ones that have stood out at training for us have been:

Jarrhan Jacky - being spoken about by the club as the only new draftee that has been able to cope with the full training load. Doing well at training it appears. Very likely to actually get games this year at AFL level.

Taylor Walker - another that seems to have fitted in well. Ranger will very likely spend most of the year in the SANFL but that was expected for his development.

Dangerfield - hurt his driver early on, but is back in training with the main group now. Has had feedback from the leadership group on his excellent attitude for his age.

I haven't been able to get to training as yet, so these impressions are from the training reports from others who have been able to.

The reports from a Hawk scratch match/training was that Whitecross has exceptional foot skills and work ethic (one track watcher said he looked like a taller version of Sam Mitchell).

Rioli has already impressed the players with his silky skills and Croad described him on SEN the other day as a "one touchplayer" and deadly around goals.

Dew is slimming down and by the time the season proper gets under way he should be pretty fit, Hodge said in an interview that he has never seen a guy who can drill "bullet like 60 metre passes".

Rhys Palmer and Clayton Hinkley have impressed the Fremantle staff so much they were offered a 3rd year on their contract. Both have signed on for the extra year.

Mark Johnson is loud vocal and training the house down. Keplar Bradley is hunched over and kicking is mediocre. But credit to the guy, he is hanging around 30 minutes after everyone has left to work on it.

Haven't heard much about Mayne or the new rookies.

That a bloke who was a top 5 draft pick and who has been in the system for such a long time is such a bad kick that he has to do extra training says a lot about the system, the team he played for and the player himself. It is is amazing.

Pick 6 wasn't he? :p

It's interesting, maybe Bradley's kicking just can't get any better. Perhaps he has reached that point for him, where there is no improvement possible from his body. Its like a sprinter won't just keep getting faster and faster the more he trains. Sooner or later the day will come where no improvements are possible. Although, generally when it comes to sprinting because of the growth and power aspect of it, that comes as a sprinter matures into an adult, but with accurate kicking, it could come at the age of 12 because it is purely technique and biomechanics, which isn't that easy to change for the better.

Kep was also doing 20 minutes or so before every training session on his kicking last year with us. I cant see him ever being much more than an average kick. I think he has something to offer if he is allowed to play as a third leading/roaming forward but he will always look like a giraffe when he runs and his kicking will always be average:)

He did a heap of work on his kicking when he was with us but it didnt help. Unfortunealy it seems that the faults in his style are pretty well ingrained into his action. Im not sure how you can say it reflects on Essendon that he still cant kick. It is not like there was no effort put into it.
As far as the player himself he didnt do himself any favours when he was with us in the way his preperation wasnt always the best and his fondness for the amber fluid was probably not the best way to go about things.
If we had of played him as a forward and not tried to turn him into something he wasnt it may have been a different story for him. Some blokes dont have the ability and nouse under pressure to be able to play both ends of the ground. Bradley was one of them.

Just adding a little to Warwick's comments on the previous page:

Collier - looks taller than advertised.

Dalzeill - finished second in the 3k and did a 15 beep. He has the strength in the legs and might get a chance early.

Here is the problem with North supporters. Here is your list, also the bulldogs supporters.
Come on let everyone know how the draftees are going.
Ummm, just what exactly is our problem and where can i find our list and those darn Bulldogs supporters?????:confused:

I think you'll find if you have a look Bakerman, that the North board is second only to the main AFL board in activity, and this was even the case before the Relocation crap started. If you wanna know whats happening in Rooland then feel free to venture over for a squiz.;)

But if thats too much trouble then here's a summary from whats been posted;
Tarrant = Looking Good
Greenwood = Tank
Garlett = Heavier built version of Campbell
Scott Thompson = Impressing
Josh Smith = Huge unit
Power = Looking Good

Ellards kicking was one thing which I think kept him from being taken higher. If he has improved that it will be interesting to see how he goes.

Irishman Shields adapting amazingly quickly and looks the goods.
Kicking technique is nearly there.....strong as an ox.....deceptively quick......competes very well in the air.

Adelaide:
"Dangerfield - hurt his driver early on".

Good move - put him in his place to avoid a similar incident as Princess Di.

Armfield has been ultra impressive on the track. His 1 percenters really give you a great insight into the kid. Prepared to do the hard work, work hard for his team and team-mates, and there is a whisper that he could very very well line up for Carlton come round 1.

Myers on the left is huge and ready to play round 1.
