Yeah I remember the news articles about that case.

I'm not sure what it's all about but there's some girls participation drive for all age groups in the junior league up here now.

There's also a Women in AFL awards luncheon every year during GF week. From an administrative and operational point of view, women have been heading up major roles in the code for years (take Jill Lindsay at the AFL for example - she's the Ground Operations Manager or something like that). And women have been making more inroads in team management/support as well. You've got your coach, then assistant coaches, daily support staff, then game day support staff. At the Lions at least there was a women one step under the asst coaches for a few years. She was the full time dietician, even travelled with the team to all games and had an active game day role.

It's also of course not unusual to see female trainers and physios involved with the clubs.

Beleive me, a female commentating the footy would be alright if they had the talent and knowledge of the game. Plus, would a female commentator be any worse then say what peter landy was ?

Female presidents coming common in AFL.....chance.
Female playing AFL.....No chance
Female becoming CEO of the AFL ? Some chance in the long term future. NZ have a female prime minister, who would of though that 50 years ago !

What are you thoughts on this ?
agree with the above can't see us playing unless all girl sides which there are out there .
commentating can't see anything wrong with that .

There will be a female commentator and probably soon. How it will go remains to be seen and possibly depends on the degree of tokenism v ability. A woman won’t get drafted in my lifetime. I can’t see a woman coaching. Even if there was one capable no club would have the guts to appoint her. Football clubs are very risk adverse. In an assistant’s role there is a possibility, particularly in fitness type roles. There will be a female field umpire at some point. Club administrators and board members already include females. A woman could certainly end up CEO or president.

I hope not. I think they have enough involvement in the game as it is. You try and talk to females about the footy and they are like "oh I am just here for Mark Merendas legs he he he giggle slurp". I know I shouldnt judge them ALL but females just dont have the natural passion for the game that males do, so their efforts in the media seem half hearted.

What a load of absolute rubbish. As though a woman admitting some sexual attraction to footballers nullifies any "natural passion" for the game. The two are not mutually exclusive.

As a young, straight, single woman, I am happy to acknowledge a fondness for Sean Dempster's pout or Ryan O'Keefe's buttocks. But that's all in good fun, something to have a chuckle about after the final siren while sipping wine (I am from Sydney, after all :p ) But from the first bounce to the siren, only the game matters. All the rest goes by the wayside.

I have a double degree in communications and football history, and I resent the suggestion that, as a woman, I am disqualified from the possibility of being a commentator. Granted, some of the women who are involved in the AFL media at the moment aren't the best representatives, but there are many women out there with the skills and interest necessary to be involved in football at most levels. And most of us have the ability to be professional, and dismiss any attraction we may feel toward a player. It's insulting to suggest otherwise.

O'Keefe has the most overrated buttocks in the AFL.

You really are struggling away from RWO, aren't you? I would have thought that the presence of  on Bigfooty would have made a difference, at least! ;)

Yeah there is the risk that the first club to appoint a female coach will become the laughing stock of the competition.
Then the AFL becomes a laughing stock to NSW and QLD, who are mostly NRL fans.
