How many chances does Finch get???

Pretty hard to pick players when they are injured.

Or sent to prepare properly in India.

By the way, that decision is one of the most sensible decisons that Aussies have made in years regards coping with daft international scheduling.

Agreed. That is one policy they have right, and they could have sent a few others as well.
One day series are meaningless in terms of results, apart from the World Cup. If the "B team" plays Brad McNamara and Nine can just suck it down.

I'm kinda glad that they gave him the entire summer to spud it up so we don't have to hear 'He just needed more time and waz robbed by them biased selectors!!' from Bushranger fanboys for the next 12 months.
It was a polished 1 that he got today though, deserves a few more chances :p

Deserved his chance, as well as an extended go at it in the one day side. Has not taken the opportunity presented to him so he will need to step it up again at domestic level if he wants to get another go at it.

Clearly not up to at this level. Next.

He's got the captain's gig against England Lions for Australia A. If he does well he could be back in the one day team.

He was deserving of his spot in the team. Firstly, his 50 then 20 over form was truly magnificent.

Even Slats was saying that Kawajha got a raw deal by the selectors.

Tata Finch. Waste of time. He has never looked comfortable. His dismissals have been piss poor, and has given away a lot of chances too, including being dropped by Best in Sydney. Too mentally soft and lacks patience and awareness of his own game to succeed at international level.

Voges is full of composure, averages 42 and has a strike rate of over 90 - surely we'll see him in the set up more permanetly now after this series.

Whos spot does he take though? Hughes looks safe at three, as do Clarke and Bailey at 4 and 5 and Wade and Maxwell seem to be the preffered 6&7. Good to see he has taken his chances and will be first called upon shall we suffer injuries, rotation, or loss of form.

Can see Maxwell lasting long to be honest. Especially when Watson starts bowling again. Maxwell's true lack of ability will be exposed against stronger teams.

I reckon Voges could be just as successful as Bailey if a spot in the middle order opens up. Maybe that spot will be opened up with the order being reshuffled when Finch comes out.

Of course Slats is totally unbiased when it comes to players who come from NSW, isn't he?

If Australia were in a position to pick their best XI for ODIs, neither Finch or Khawaja would make the cut, that is the reality. Watson & Warner would be the openers & Hughes would be at #3. Then you have Clarke, Bailey & Wade, then an all rounder & the bowlers.

FWIW, I think Khawaja would rather be in India at the moment than participating in a meaningless one day series.

I know it's not likely as Maxwell is preferred, but would love to see Voges get an extended run in the team. That was a brilliant 100 today, timed it beautifully. At worst, he should be the first guy called in as backup now when players are rested.

And then there's Marsh, who also looked solid again today. His average at ODI level is pretty decent as well.

At least there are some options coming up for those batting spots to keep the pressure on guys like Warner and Maxwell (the rest are safe).

Safe to say Finch isn't needed anymore, bye bye.

I've always said that Voges > Bailey

And I stick by it, even after being lucky enough to witness Bailey's delightful 100 at the WACA.

Lucky you thorne. Must have been just the ticket seeing Burgers do so well.

Voges is 33 and I'm sure they will prefer younger players with the World Cup in 2015. If the team is at full strength there is no room for him. Even with both Husseys out of the picture.

The only chance would be if Maxwell went backwards, but then Voges bowling isn't any better than Maxwells and they obviously want to give Maxwell the same sort of treatment as Warner. They'll give both of them more rope in ODI's than anyone could possibly want to hang themselves with.

I think that top 7 that was posted earlier is the go - watson, warner, hughes, clarke, bailey, wade, maxwell

after yesterday voges first in line, khawaja after him, and finsh third. hughes, khawaja, finch next in line for an opening spot.

anyone overlooked?

EDIT: Sean marsh probably thereabouts somewhere as well. ferguson is unlucky not have earnt a recall in the short form. he was doing very well for oz before injury. its a long time ago now. i haven't followed his domestic short form too closely to be honest.
