How much longer can Priddis be debated?

You're saying Simpson doesn't rate him our best performed mid? So his top ten finish in the AFLCA award was just due to the opposition coach throwing him votes?
I'm saying that Simpson whilst at the Hawks rated him as our No 1 Midfielder. He said they put a lot of time into nullifying and tagging him.

Now when we rewatch the last few Hawks v Eagles games (whilst Simpson was at the Hawks), they did not tag him and let him get the ball at his own leisure.

So what exactly am I saying? An expert that did rate Priddis is found out to be lying about him. Why? Absolutely no idea.

I was referring to the journos who list him in their best every week, his teammates who nominated him for the AFLPA medal etc. I'm sure it's not everyone in those fields but it's clearly the vast majority.

Did I say he should have been AA? I haven't said that anywhere.

Except you said: "the journos in every paper..."

And you presume to state that every umpire and every coach and every team mate rate his disposal. Tell me when you spoke to them all and got their true opinion of it.

As if team mates are ever going to come out and say otherwise about the glorified one. I can state that I have watched games in which his team mates have bypassed him even when he was in the clear. Why I ask...

I haven't said they've rated his disposal. I said they rated his performance. And I've said what I've based that on - listings of the best players from each game in the case of the journos, nominations for the AFLPA medal in the case of his teammates, AFLCA votes in the case of the coaches, Brownlow votes in the case of the umpires, Worsfold Medal votes in the case of the match committee. Of course I'm not going to go out and interview every ****ing player and umpire in order to win an argument on the internet, don't be absurd.

Where did he say that?

He said it at a function when he took over as coach. Someone asked him if he was going to remove Priddis and he stated that the Hawks spent most of their preparation on Priddis when playing the Eagles.

But the video evidence clearly shows otherwise.

Maybe you should amend your sweeping statement of "every" then.

Righto, so we're labelling him a liar based on something he said at a function. Do we have any independent reports of what he said? Based on my previous post I'm not too happy relying on your comprehension skills to be perfectly honest.

I said "the journos at every paper". If you can locate a paper that doesn't put him in the best more often than not, I'll amend it.
I think you need to prove your statement correct rather than I disprove it.

You make sweeping statements about the umpires and team mates and every paper and coaches as if it is fact.

If you don't believe that's fine no sweat.

It was debated for a good 10 pages in this thread, some 200 pages ago.

Honestly, I cannot be bothered searching for this. You should have a fair idea on which posters to believe and which ones have a few mental screws missing.

Oh FFS, this shouldn't even be an argument.
Umpires: He was our leading Brownlow votegetter last year. Obviously this year's votes haven't been announced but he's at $12 to win the thing and our next player is at $1001 so I'd say it's a foregone conclusion that he'll be our leading vote getter again.
Teammates: They nominated three players for the AFLPA medal, Priddis, MacKenzie and Kennedy. Therefore as a group they ranked Priddis ahead of any other mid.
Coaches: He finished equal fifth in their award on 72 votes. Not sure which of our mids was next but with a few rounds to go he was nearly 50 votes ahead of Shuey.
Papers: I'm not going to go through every major paper and tell you how many times he was listed in our best. The fact that that occurred regularly and you and others on your side of the argument disagreed with it has been mentioned plenty of times in this thread.

Well you're the one saying he's a liar.

All I can find is Smotie saying a friend of his told him Simpson said it at a function. Wouldn't have thought that would be enough to hang a man, third hand info from someone who has in the last two pages shown a complete inability to comprehend a fairly simple point.

Nice generalizations.
You can't know how many didn't vote for him across the board can you?
I'm not contesting he is our best performed mid, (by stats) I am contesting the fact that your statement was a sweeping generalization that ALL of the coahses, players, journos etc rate him when clearly thats bullshit.

Can't believe we are debating this point.

Tried searching to being you up to speed, struggling to find a direct quote. Will try again.

Found it interesting that, "The Hawks seem to be Priddis’ favourite team to play against, with his statistical output against the Hawks superior to his record against any other team in the competition."

Seems to back up what I'm saying hey Fivey?

You clearly don't. you've already tried to say that I said every journo etc rates his disposal, when I didn't mention his disposal at all, and asked how I justified his non-AA selection when I didn't mention that at all.

And you're going on about my sweeping statements like I was referring to 100% of the people in every category I referred to, which I clearly wasn't. I was referring to those groups as a whole, and I've listed out the quantifiable bases on which I made that statement. And all I get in response is "that's bullshit".

I'm not contesting he is our best performed mid, (by stats)

He isn't our best, his disposal is too poor for him to be the best.

Err, what?

This is the only place I've seen any comment from Simpson reported anywhere. As I said, it's something that Smotie's friend apparently heard Simpson say at a meeting. I'd be interested to know if it's the same friend who told him that Glass retired because of a falling out with Simpson.

A friend of mine went to a meeting of sorts which had Simpson answering questions from members. I don't know when or where this was or what setting.
Someone stood up and asked him about Priddis and suggested he should be playing in the WAFL for most of the year.
At this Simpson bristled and responded saying that at Hawthorn half the planning by their match committee went towards limiting Priddis' disposal gathering. That they rated Priddis as high as Sam Mitchell. Even if his disposal was effective only half the time it still warranted concern.

Found it interesting that, "The Hawks seem to be Priddis’ favourite team to play against, with his statistical output against the Hawks superior to his record against any other team in the competition."

How does that back up your assertion that Simpson said Hawthorn tagged Priddis when he was there?

Err, what?
You missed the brackets didn't you.
Can't comprehend it can you.

So he's our best mid by stats but he's not our best mid.

And his teammates, the coaches association, the media and (almost certainly) the umpires rated him our best performed mid this year but that's irrelevant because it may or may not have been 100% of them that held that view.

Gotcha.

Now you get it. I don't give a shit how he rates by stats. Those stats say he's our best performed mid but he isn't based on his disposals which are shit. Sad I had to explain it to you.

Your post implied every one of those coaches and team mates and journos in every paper rated him our best which you clearly can't know.

It didn't imply that at all, because I clearly can't know. It referred to the groups. I said "every newspaper" and you've chosen to interpret that as "every coach/teammate/journo/umpire".

Was your friend who reported on Simpsons comments re Priddis the same friend who said Glass had a falling out with Simpson?

Jesus wept

Priddis was our highest vote getter in the coaches award by some margin

He was the only mid nominated by his teammates for the AFLPA MVP award

Across the media he was consistently high up in best players lists and awards and was well clear of any of our other mids

Whether you like to admit it or not Priddis is clearly rated by coaches, teammates and sections of the media as our best mid on performance this year. Not by every one of those people but as a collective.

There is every likelihood that he will also finish highly in the brownlow and our B&F.

I understand his limitations and agree with most of the criticisms of Priddis in this thread but you can't argue that a significant number of people in football rate him

The coaches, his teammates, the umpires, the journos in every paper and on every footy show, and in all likelihood the match committee who vote on the Woosh Medal disagree with you. Which is why this argument has been going on for 328 pages.

It didn't imply that at all, because I clearly can't know. It referred to the groups. I said "every newspaper" and you've chosen to interpret that as "every coach/teammate/journo/umpire".

Wrong.
"The Coaches" Implies all
"The umpires" Implies all
"his team mates" Implies all
"the journos in every paper" Implies all

"disagree with you" That I said he wasn't our best.

Whether you like it or not your post implied all of them.
