How will our best side look when we are once again in the top bracket?

Rich would have to be more than a mid-first round considering his age, rising star and pick 7. He may not be but surely he would get more.

Aren't teams better trading with GWS as they complete the trade but also get compensation from the AFL as well. Wasn't that what happened with Brennan? That may have been because he was the second uncontracted player to be taken.

I don't think the compensation rules allow for AFL discretion in awarding anything other than from the tiered compensation structure. This may mean Brisbane get unders for Rich, but I think tier two will be fair compo. Geelong got screwed in their compo, considering what WC got for Judd. The compensation system may work out for Brisbane because they sit lower on the ladder, but it can also lead to clubs being unfairly compensated when they sit higher on the ladder, like Geelong.

Daniel Rich isn't worth tier 1. Tier 2 is likely. Tier 3 is a minor possibility if the AFL act as tight arses. (I wouldn't put it past them to **** a non-Victorian team over)

If Brisbane are still shit in 2012, they'll get good value from a tier 2 compo pick, which will come after their pick in the first round. If they however get to mid table, they'll get what I expect, a mid first round pick, which is what they paid for Rich in 2008.

It comes down to whether clubs believe they can get better compo from the AFL by dealing with GWS, or whether they can get more by dealing independently with other clubs, without the set price imposed by the AFL's tiered compo rules. A Tier 2 pick value varies from club to club as the pick holds less value the higher the club receiving it finishes in the year they choose to use it.

What advantages WC in negotiations regarding Rich is that WC can add additional picks and players on top of an offer to get the deal done. The AFL compensation rules doesn't allow for negotiation; it's take what you're given.
Brisbane will have to make an educated guess as to where they expect to finish in the coming years when they can use the compo pick, and weigh it up against what's being offered by WC to use in the subsequent draft.
If Brisbane are optimistic that they're on the rise, it'll be better for them to deal with WC, as it'll give them greater value from losing Rich.

Everyone has Swift and Naitanui in the side. I dont get it, they are spuds and will be delisted buy 2012 anyway. Wilkes is dangerously under-rated and will replace Glass when he retires as FB and captain.

Never underestimate the importance of this thread - see above - it's a bloody good laugh:D

I think we're getting the the point where we have talent all over the ground, and the priority now becomes getting games into them ahead of some of their underperforming senior teammates.

Hopefully we can see something like this from 2012 onwards on our way to the finals.

B: Schofield, MacKenzie, Waters
HB: Hurn, Brown, Smith
C: Gaff, Swift, Sheppard
HF: Strijk, Kennedy, LeCras
FF: Neates, Darling, Hams
RR: Naitanui, Shuey, S. Selwood

INT: Lycett, Masten, Stevens Sub: Kerr

Of course, like most prediction theories, I'm probably wrong.

Priddis and A Selwood will get better as the team does as well, not just the younger players. Priddis was getting 40 possessions and his brownlow odds were soaring when he first came into the team.

Darling and Gaff = insta-Premiership :D

Personally, I'm thinking three more seasons until we're stuck right at the start of a three-peat premiership window.

I've attached the side and the draft picks they were taken (to show how well we've built the squad in relation to say the Suns).

B Brennan (46) MacKenzie (29) Waters (11)
HB J Jones (52) Schofield (50) Hurn (13)
C Sheppard (7) S Selwood (22) Stevens (23)
HF Shuey (18) Kennedy (3) Ebert (13)
F Darling (26) Wilson - R LeCras (37)

R Naitanui (2) Gaff (4) Masten (3)

I Swift (20) A Smith (36) Lycett (29) SS: M Brown (16)

E Weedon (22) Stryjk - R

Five top 10 picks.
Ten top 20 picks.
Seventeen top 30 picks.

That is an extremely strong spread of high-draft talent.

Whilst there are a few questionable choices still, every position in the side is filled with someone that has shown they have something to work with.

The next three seasons really need to be about experience, experience, experience and trading for maturer bodies that will compliment the line-up in 2014.

FB: Waters Emac Schofield
HB: Hurn Brown BWilson

RR: Naitinui Swift Masten
HF: Lecras Kennedy Strijk
FF: Hams Darling Weedon

INT: Ebert Stevens SSelwood Smith/Lycett

Very solid team. What a dynamic forward line, it's the best part of our team.

A long post...

Some serious crystal ball gazing here :D...

In my opinion, 2011 is going to be the final year in our transformation from a bottom 4 team to a top 4 team. Our lineup will be changing almost every week (albeit smaller changes) coz. we will still be finding the right players for the right spots, still have remnants of our 2006 team (some good, some not so good), the game plan still being reformed and the players will still be understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each other resulting in us ending up just outside of the 8. By the end of 2011 the majority of the deadwood will be gone from our list. End of 2012 will see us loose the last of our oldies, leaving us with a team where the most experienced player on the field would have played around 140 games and have a bunch of 15-20 youngsters with around the 50 games of experience. By around mid-season 2012, we will be amongst the top few teams with every team fearing the trip to Perth. We will start winning our share of the derbies and September will be the best month around Perth, with both WA teams featuring heavily.

This is how I would classify our players

The not sure how things will pan out group
Kerr, Cox, Butler, A Selwood, JON, Broome, Rosa, Dalziell

The depth
Waters, Priddis, Stevens, Swift, Schofield, Smith, Ebert, Neates, Hoolihan, Jordan Jones, Neates

The potentially good to v.good
Stevenson, Brown, B Wilson (strong gut feel that he will turn into Hurn MKII), Masten, Weedon, Darling, Lycett

The good
EMac, Wilson, Hams, Strijk, Gaff

The very good
S Selwood, Hurn, Kennedy, Sheppard

The out and out stars
Shuey, LeCras & Naitanui

We will potentially have the most evenly talented and skillful 22 in the competition with NO passengers in the team and will have a group of 7-10 players who could step up whenever required.

This in my opinion will be the starting line-up of the team challenging for our next premiership

Backs
Hurn MacKenzie B Wilson
Stevenson Brown Sheppard

Mids
Gaff Shuey Le Cras
Naitanui Masten S Selwood

Forwards
Strijk Kennedy Darling
Hams Wilson Weedon

I/C
Lycett

The remaining 2 I/C and Sub will come from the following group
Waters, Priddis, Stevens, Swift, Schofield, Smith, Ebert, Hoolihan, Jordan Jones, Neates

My bad :)

There is a good chance that one or two or maybe more out of the depth group esp. out of Stevens, Swift, Smith, Ebert might end up jumping from the depth group to the main group and who knows, Swift could end up realising his potential and become a star of the competition (tho a long way off at the moment)

it all looks pretty exciting to see the lists laid out here, and the evolution of depth and young players..
also get the feeling that 2011 is our turnaround year..there are some doomsayers who argue that we could repeat 16th or slip to 17th..personally i cant see that, i see us regaining ground and getting back to 2009 levels(eg-11th), before a stronger push in 2012..(acknowledging the fact that teams must be displaced)
some great forecasts of the future on this thread, albeit all speculation, its positive exciting and quite feasible..its like, like, like xmas! :thumbsu:

Get yourself on youtube and watch a few of his games... He has shown plenty.

Pretty sure that's not what I said.

I said he "hasn't shown anywhere near what his reputation suggests".

He's shown flashes of brilliance...many kids do.

Man kids also don't go anywhere near becoming anything more then a depth player.

What's wrong with that?

To date, he hasn't shown anywhere near what his reputation suggests.
Well I don't believe that we're going to move up the ladder very far with a guy like Swift as a depth player. It seems like a bit oxymoronic to have him in this regard once our side is "in the top bracket", because IMO unless the likes of Swift and Shuey are persisted with and in turn fulfill their potential we won't be in the 'top bracket' for a long, long while.

That's debatable, but it's hardly an absurd suggestion or "lol" worthy to suggest a highly rated kid doesn't live up to their potential.
