Here we go again with "iTs tHe cUlTuRe"
Clubs with a half decent culture don’t have players climbing over each other every year to get out of the joint. You can’t keep locals and even NGA kids are telling Bell to GAGF.

Every club has players leaving every year, it's not exclusive to us, you're also missing the part where most of the guys we lost last year said they wanted to stay until we offered them less money.

And you don't think Young gets in their ears and points them towards leaving?

No one has the volume of players walking out than you lot. If players wanted to stick around Colon Young isn’t going to force them out you know. Its amazing that you think he’s got that sort of influence over them.

It's amazing that you think player managers don't have a level of power that they can hold over their players, let's also not pretend that Colin Young is respected within the industry, he's well known to be a snake oil salesmen as well as the other managers within the competition holding only contempt towards him, he's a dodgy individual, he says whatever he needs to say in order to make his money.

You don't think he'd be in Liam Henry's ear? A young and impressionable 21 year old, telling him moving to the bright lights of Victoria could be the move that takes his career to the next level? How he has his mates there, that he could take the mantle of his idol Cyril Rioli if he were to be traded to Hawthorn?

Some of our list management comes down to lowballing our players, I'll agree with that, Acres and Logue only left due to money and us offering them less than they were asking for, Lobb left to be with his girlfriend and her family, Tucker and Meek left because they were depth players that wanted opportunities in AFL teams.

It's easy to say that it comes down to culture issues when you don't look deeper into why the player chose to leave.

It’s also amazing that you believe Colin Young isn’t representing all of his clients in the same manner, with no other clubs experiencing the same pathetic player retention problems that Failmantle are struggling with.

You don’t think Henry being abused by his own fans every match had a little to do with his decision?

You don't think is going to get that abuse everywhere he goes? You're kidding yourself if you think he's going to go to a club like Hawthorn and not get the same shit he got here, everybody gets it, everybody, it's not a valid excuse.

If you want to continue to point fingers at the culture despite the reasons said players left right in front of you, be my guest.

Why don’t West Coast have these issues?

We don’t lose players we want to keep very often. Pretty much says everything.
If our culture is as bad as you say though, why is it that we have many young players signing longer deals or extending on their already current deals? Hell Jye Amiss is signed until the end of the decade now.

If our culture was so bad, surely these guys wouldn't be going out of their way to sign extensions and new deals?

Henry won’t be copping anything like what he had to stomach at Cockburn wherever he ends up and if you think everybody gets that treatment you’re absolutely delusional.

Of course he will, you're kidding yourself. Funny how you can't answer why we have so many young players re-signing and extending with the club though.

Every club has players signing on, it’s not a unique position you know. Having so many wanting out though, is.

If we come out of this year with only Henry requesting out, while re-signing our young core of guys like Treacy, Amiss, Johnson, Erasmus etc. The I say that's a pretty damn good outcome.

Didn't realise we had so many outside of Henry wanting out though, you know something we don't? ;)

I really can’t think of any other NGA kids running out of the door at the first opportunity

You didn't answer the question, who else other than Henry wants to leave?
Cox? Darcy? Who knows, nothing would surprise me with your track record atm

Losing a NGA kid who’s been around the club since he was 15 you’d think was bad enough though

Cox and Darcy will both be re-signed by Christmas if the rumours are anything to go off of.

And in the grand scheme of things, losing Henry isn't a big deal, we'll have somebody ready to take his position.

In isolation it’s not a big deal but when you add him to Neale, Langdon, Hill, Hogan, Cerra, Acres, Lobb, Logue, etc etc it’s a problem

Kulcha!

Neale- I'll give you that, that's the one trade that came down to the club's culture which he's said himself.

Langdon- Wanted to go back to Victoria, rumours also claimed Connor Blakely slept with his girlfriend.

Hill- Not too sure, sounds like he believed he could extract more value from St Kilda.

Hogan- Thought to be a good trade at the time, but with the constant hassling from the media he was never going to stay in Perth for very long, he's better in a state that people won't recognise him in.

Cerra- That's on us for drafting him, was always a risk to go home, was only a matter of time.

Acres- Wanted to stay with the club, but we supposedly lowballed him with his contract renewal, Carlton were willing to offer more money than we were, so we let him go.

Lobb- Moved to be with his girlfriend in Victoria, claimed we weren't playing him right (we played him forward like he wanted, not our fault he waited until his trade year to play well)

Logue- Wanted to stay, we refused to deal with him early in the season when he wanted to re-sign, he felt unwanted and decided to leave at the last minute.

The only one you can pin down to culture is Neale, the others all have their reasons.

I am not denying the dockers have retention problems... However...

Look at freos early picks in the 2019 AFL draft...

Pick 7 was Hayden Young

Pick 8 was Caleb Serong

Pick 9 was Liam Henry.

Young and Serong have signed long term contracts until 2027. That would be their 8th year. Yep both blokes are free agents. Both blokes are (country) victorian players.

Liam Henry is a WA guy and wants out. So that seems odd to me....

Had it been the other way around with Young and serong wanting out and Henry Staying, then its more of a case of Victorian players wanting to head home.

That's because you are s**t

Always injury excuses and covid

Why not blame a s**t management and old players who shouldn't have been playing

Joke of an organisation
Sounds about right.

The eagles had 6 years of finals. Yep those core blokes were in their prime years. Now they are aged 30 or older.

Colin Young has some Influence...

Henry is the latest.

Brad Hill was under Colin Youngs group isnt he?

Brad Hills contract at Freo was 5 year contract at $2.5 million. It wasnt $500,000 a year for 5 years. It was front loaded.

$700,000 in 2017 and 2018. Then $500,000 in 2019. Had he stayed at the dockers in 2020 and 2021, he would be on only $300,000 a year.

Saints offered $900,000 a year for 5 seasons from 2020 until 2024.
