Has CEY's emergence been a good or bad thing for the club?
Who has it been bad for?

Polholke perhaps.

Gibbs it would have made no difference as his issues are off field.

Greenwood missed most of preseason.

Greenwood, Gibbs, Milera and Jones

Do the positive of CEY's good form outweigh the opportunities that have dried up for others?

Greenwood can't even run out 4 quarters - no.

Gibbs' head is not on football - no.

Milera could have been played more on ball, but more about the selection of our rotations by our coaches - no.

Jones - should be playing wing instead of our 3 underperforming wingmen - no.

Polholke is the one imo who has missed out.

Greenwood doesn't need to run out four quarters in the midfield. He's a mid/fwd whose midfield minutes have dried up.

Gibbs form turned sour no doubt. Whether being shuffled forward, back and sideways played a role here who knows.

Milera of course yes. There are only limited midfield spots and we have Crouch, Crouch and Sloane. CEY has basically soaked up the rest.

Jones has had only the briefest forays in there and looks great on the burst from stoppages. The type of speed and spread we desperately lack.

CEY has been good and his performances may indeed outweigh the positives others could have gained from time in there.

What hurts is that CEY is another player who is inside mid or nothing. Absolutely no other strings to his bow so it becomes quite a one dimensional midfield. He's (and Crouch x 2) why we can't rotate many players through there.

Really so you haven't heard if possible priority picks and academy picks

Assuming there is an unlikely priority pick, the middle of the second round becomes 27.5. Still closer than to 27 than 35.

Academy and f/s happen AFTER trade period. Until draft night, the middle of the second round is still 27.

Maths not your strong point if there is a priority pick 27 becomes 28 and at the draft academy picks are clearly in play pushing that pick well into the 30's teams are fully aware that there pick will be moved back with academy picks it has occurred every year

It's more a coaching issue of limiting out midfield rotations when we should be running deeper.

Sloane should also be playing forward... as can Brouch or off a wing at times.

When we have played our best football this year, we have played more players through the middle. Last week we kept using the same 4 players despite being killed. Just stupid coaching & it's like we don't even know what is successful.

I don’t even know how to reply to this.

They must have read your post.

I know our opponents were beyond woeful but we ran a lot of players through there.

I think they’d be crazy to let him go. I actually see him as a genuine contested marking forward that can also go into the midfield. Play him up forward next year with a proper forwards coach in charge and watch him flourish.
Why ??

We already have a couple young kids who we need to find a place for in that forwardline. We need genuine midfield options and as much as what he can do in there is good, it's not enough.

Talking about trading Greenwood is silly- the boy is a winner and can win a game of his own boot.

We should be looking at trading CEY instead. He is at the peak of his value after a good season and we ideally shouldn't be playing them both together.

The issue is CEY is a free agent, but Greenwood isn't... so we can get more for Hugh.

Thought he sort of played the Lynch role last night, providing the other lead up option with Tex. Better game.

Has CEY's emergence been a good or bad thing for the club?

Like all depth players having a career year, it's neither good or bad for the club yet.

We'll see what the cost is this off-season.

On his podcast today, said he still wants to stay in Adelaide, expected to sign a deal within the first month of the season, but didn't get an offer. Manager has a variety of backup plans lined up, didn't sound overly enthused about moving to Melbourne though.

I gather we are keen to get our priority players dealt with 1st, then deal with the likes of Cam.

This is about saving as much money as we can for the Grundy deal. They are going full stream ahead to get a deal done for next year.
