Some good info ther Box, I have also heard from a couple of Magpies players about that rumour, but just thought it may have been young blokes spruking. Well done to Holbrook for knocking off Howlong on the weekend, I dont think there will be too many tears shed from the rest of the league now that Howlong are out. I have noticed that Marc Almond was playing in the back half of the season. I was under the impression that they were on 20 points and had given Almond 0 points because he wasnt going to play. Surely the league will have to do something about Howlong now being over the points system. No doubt nothing will happen because the leauge committee are gutless and don't enforce harsh enough penalties (Just look at Tom Marlow's incident). The points system needs to be enforced and penalties applied, even with this independant overseer, it is still a joke. Especially since there is an exemption for a town like Howlong for people who live there get 0 points (Karl Jacka). Surely a club like Walla could argue that Relton Roberts lived there, therefore he should theoretically be on 0 points as well. Thoughts?

points only apply to the 21 in first grade in any given game therefore squads could have over the maximum allocation of points but not be over on game day. in the almond case he played 2s and it doesnt matter. points shouldnt count if you were a junior at the club, otherwise hang around play enough games and points will be reduced over the years.

you seem to be annoyed about the marlow incident, from whats going around the circles the runner was carrying on like a peanut all day and gave marlow spray when he was coming off the ground so he dropped his shoulder into him. probably something you would do to someone getting in your face on the field.

Anyone else heard the whisper Howlong intend on playing Darren Bradshaw and Troy Cooper in the Reserves this week.
Or Troy you may be able to shed some light on this if you are still looking and commenting on this site>

So the runner making a comment from 5m away is getting in your face and means he deserved to be dropped on his arse does it. No player on the ground is allowed to touch an official was my understanding and to cope a one week suspension when he was already going to be missing through injury is just weak as piss by the league.

Within the rules but not in the spirit if you ask me. not so much for the team they are playing but for the player they push out.

It's been a great year of footy in the Hume League, great to see Henty into the GF, terrific for the club and also the League. I'm tipping Osborne to just get up this week and then you can toss a coin to pick a winner next week.

Howlong would be devastated after being knocked out. After a big year of spending up and being under the pump  about the points system, they have nothing to show for it. It was still a great effort from them to lure Daniel Bradshaw, which was great for the league. Is he playing on next year?

All Things Saintly, what can you tell us about the Saints? I have been hearing all kinds of rumours about different coaches. Has McKimmie stood down? Seems he done a pretty good job this year after a few blokes left and they rucruited no one.

Also, it's time for the League to scrap this ridiculous draw. The league is even enough for everyone to have equal draw. It's not fair on other teams if a team were to finish top two and get the second chance.

Are you suggesting a 26-round season Birdman? Because that's the only way you can get an equal draw in a 13-team competition. 24 games to play everyone home and away, and two byes.
There's no real way of knowing when the draw comes out which of the clubs that miss the finals in a season are going to recruit well and come good overnight.

The big problem IMO is in the finals system, which has already been mentioned here. There is far too big a gap between what second and third get for their efforts.
A top 8, again as mentioned, I actually reckon would be a better way to go than dropping back to a top 5. Five out of 13 is not fair on a team that could finish sixth and miss out with a record of something like 13-5 or 14-4.
Admittedly, eight is too many, but it would be the only way the higher ranked teams get a fair benefit from finishing up there. Award home finals to the higher ranked teams.
If you want to stay with a top six, change it slightly to the system the AFL had when the six was in operation for those handful of seasons.

Week 1 - QF 1v2, EF 3v6, EF 4v5
Week 2 - 2nd Semi - winner QF v highest ranked EF winner; 1st Semi - loser QF v lowest ranked EF winner
Week 3 - Preliminary - as normal
Week 4 - Grand Final - as normal

That wouldn't be any better. top side doesn't get a week off and has to win 2 games to make the gf. 3rd place team still faces elimination first week.

.

Mckimmie hasnt announced that he is stepping down. But we have our B&F this weekend, so could be announced then. Nothing official as yet.

In terms of Schilg coaching, I couldnt see it happening. He hates training at the best of times, and he's pretty quiet. and he hasnt even been an assistant.. But weirder things have happened in footy.

That was a small problem NOP, the differences are the top two have a double chance first week and the winner keeps that double chance in week two. If third wins their first final, they gain a double chance in the second week.
I think the only real problem with it was that if 5 and 6 both won, 3 and 4 would be out and 5 would get a double chance and a free shot at the grand final. That's why I would vote for a Top 8 over either of the Top 6 models.

On another note, I remember writing in 2002, when there were 11 Hume clubs and 10 CDFL clubs, that the two competitions should merge then and create a two division, promotion-relegation model. Only one merger (Coreen-Daysdale) had happened at that stage. I firmly believe had I not be dismissed with 'both comps are completely fine, there is nothing to worry about', we would still have 21 clubs (there are now 17 of them left) and all 21 would have realistic hopes of being able to compete for a premiership in any given season.
As it is, if you don't have location or money (or both) you have almost no prospect of ever winning a premiership again.

Have heard of Jindera targeting a fair few o&m players mainly from Albury and Wodonga Raiders.
Can anyone confirm this? Has anyone followed Walker over from one Kennel to another?

Also any news of the BB Saints or Howlong coaching? (Schilg and Carey)

If any club in the Hume League is not targeting some Albury players... They need to get new recruiters.!

Listening to 2AY on Saturday, and they were talking about Brad Sutcliff from Thurgoona. Said that he had been injured all finals and wasn't going to be fully fit to be able to play seniors, but that he could play in the 2's as they were in the Grand Final as well. But he chose to sit out, as he wasn't going to take a 2's players spot who had played all year.

Might start generating gf talk.
I think osborne will win by 35 points ( junk time goals will blow it out)
Matt Clarke will win des Kennedy
Rw will win 2s
jindera 3rds
osborne 4ths

Osborne by 2 points
James Creasy to win des kennedy
Howlong to smash RW
Jindera inthe thirds
Howlong in the forths

i hear rumors of ronnie boulton from bb moving to wahgunyah next year?

Quality spelling there Nugget, but the 'rumors' that you have heard have directly come from your mouth and are just trying to cause a stir. You are a spud and a blight on society.

great gf went to script.henty started well then osborne slipt into their groove and cruise. 2's was disappointing by howlong putting cooper and bradshaw back. not do much for r/w but for the howlong players that missed. thirds was a ripping game of footy. The names in osborne 4the flag is scary. gooden mcalister and Armstrong

Are you saying your club wouldn't have played Cooper and Bradshaw Box?

Well the season is only a day gone (congrats to Osborne) and it seems that it all has to begin again with recruiting and departures, hearing that Ash " the tattooist ran out of ink" sibraa is on the move from the kennel also that the bradshaws are all going with almo to the bombers.

Bradshaws would leave a huge hole to fill. They may look at another retired afl player

Ill get this rumour mill started from what ive heard.....

Interesting appointment of Ken Stevenson for the Wodonga Raiders Job. Would think the Raider Players would be ripe for the picking now boys. Cant see it being a good move by them, but great for the other leagues. Who could he take from Jindera to the upper league? I wonder if that will push Cassidy back out as he was at raiders.

Another one is Luke Schilg is going to BB as coach, and could bring a few players with him. Also hearing that mckimmie and story are set to leave or retire. (?!?)

Ive been hearing that Howlong are set to slide back with a heap of players following Almond out to DMB. Their captain being one of them as i am led to believe he is close mates with the departing coach. Bradshaws are as good as gone. Daniel to retire.

Also hearing that Mark Bush could be heading to Henty!

NOP you guys are normally very active in the off season, any hints you want to throw out there?

Not sure if any are true, so can anyone confirm any of the above? But should get some active debate going.

Bush is on 195 om games. won't be leaving. cassidy has signed with jindera. talking to a few as is everyone. j Carey is still the name i hear at bb. j maher turned down magpies job which was to be rumoured at 30k.

What is the current status of the coaching positions in the League ? We know Twitt staying at Holbrook & Piltz staying at Henty, Walker to Jindera, Athanitis doing RWT. Culcairn, Howlong, Magpies, Walla & Crows all looking, What about Osborne, BB Saints, Lockhart, CDHBU ? Heard anything ?

Darryn McKimmie has signed back onto Burrum - much to the disappointment of the BB Saint players considering that 'skillsy' wasn't all that skillful when it came to recruiting for the sainters last year! BB Saints - pull your head in! Luke Carey might be coming back as Assistant Coach & this could really benefit BB if he could get a word in over Skillsy!!

Take a word of advice McKimmie & all other coaches out there. Look after your locals! What is country football coming to when there dropping players who have played with the club, who have had fathers who played at the club, just so they can bring in the big guns who will hang around for one season then shoot off somewhere else for another chance at a premiership.

Justin Kozi could be seeing 2013 be his last year in the AFL (personal choice) and rumor has it could be turning up at Lavington Panthers to play along his bestmate in 2014. Jindera's Kenny has been confirmed to be coaching the Wodonga Raiders so Corey Lambaert is stepping down from this position (bout time!).

Rumor has it that the Bradshaw brothers are looking for a change, as are the Boulton brothers having numerous offers from countless clubs. It'd be worth spending the big bucks to get two sets of brothers who all play in varying positions all in one team! That's a premiership right there.

Isnt that a total backflip from your first comment..
So who ever picks them up will drop locals. obviously![/quote]

Correct, however shame on BB and howlong who aren't looking after there locals well enough that they are out there looking for more options!
