He was on the Marngrook Footy show last night with that list.. He did say he weighted it towards blokes who were either from victoria, or who came across to victoria to play in "the premier league in the country". Make of that what you will

Im too young to have seen S.Michael play, but those around me say he was still in the top 3 players they have ever seen.

Over on the main board there's a thread where Mike Sheehan lists his top ten indigenous players of all time. No Stephen Michael. FMD.
Farking hack Sheahan. Used to rate him as well. The game is called Australian Rules, not bloody Victorian Rules.

His specific instructions were to also consider players from SANFL, WAFL etc. who hadn't played outside of their own state, but clearly he chose to ignore that.

His get out clause with that was probably his lack of effort to travel to said states to watch any footballers.. given he wont even do it now, let alone back when travel wasnt more comfortable than the house i live in.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet but Damien Barrett for the 2nd time this year said that Brett Kirk was in strong consideration for a coaching role at Melbourne. I wonder how that will play out.

A 2 year apprenticeship under The Boss, another 2 or 3 under someone with a different philosophy and he will be a good coach.

He goes with my best wishes if that is his decision.

Think he'll get it too. Smart player, should do alright if Roosy can put the spine back into that mob.

Sheahan is a numptie.
I think you are being very disingenuous to numpties. The guy has no idea unless he played for (insert big victorian club here). Stephen Michael would be with Cable and Farmer the best three indigenous players. in' 79 the best two players in Australia were battling out in the WAFL. Much better football than the VFL - no mud, open football to display the skills. Lost out to the Vics due to money

S. Michael was on Marngrook last week. Loved what he said about not going to Victoria - he had nothing to prove. This week Gilly was so so unimpressed with Sheahan's conviction that the VFL was the 'premier competition' of the day and the others didn't count. Not happy was Gilly.

That's all very well. But why should Ross Lyon retire? Kirky will be an old man by then.

I'm looking forward to the debut of the Ross 3000.

Not sure if this got a run on here anywhere, but this is not a bad read.

It was the “Rumble in the Jungle” 1974 heavyweight boxing title bout in which Muhammad Ali famously adopted what came to be known as the rope-a-dope strategy.

Ali was the underdog against title-holder George Foreman, whose punching power was legendary. But instead of exposing himself fully to a barrage, he allowed Foreman to pin him up against the ropes, which absorbed much of the energy of his opponent’s blows.

Eventually, Foreman wore himself out, and Ali, lethal on the counter-attack, cashed in, eventually winning by a knockout in the eighth round.

And last Saturday at the MCG, while the sport was different, and the spotlight and stakes considerably less, the AFL might have seen a pretty good approximation of that famous bout in Fremantle’s defeat of Richmond

"After the game, Richmond coach Damien Hardwick lamented his side’s failure to take its opportunities, the Tigers finishing with 12.13. That’s becoming a weekly mantra, though, from defeated coaches whose teams consistently return low and inaccurate scorelines against the Dockers."

Just what I've been saying for weeks. Opposition coaches each week lamenting their team's inaccuracy, without acknowledging that maybe we had something to do with it.

Not that the Richmond game was the best example, given our missing defenders, and the fact that there were a number of easier shots that they missed. But there's a definite pattern. The question is if it can work against the better teams. Our fate's in our own hands in the last month of the season.

Did anyone else thinks Baz's call of Pav's running goal against Richmond was a bit disingenuous?

"He's all class" It just sounded as though he really had to squeeze that out through his blue/gold larynx.

Basil makes everything sound boring, fake and monotonous. He truly is the worst commentator at the moment.

I wish we didn't have him for the Geelong v Freo QF. Having someone like Anthony Hudson call Stephen Hill's running goal would've made it infinitely better than what we actually had. **** you Basil, I hate you.

I was hoping it would be featured in the quad call so we could get the chance to hear how it should have sounded. :(

I was listening to the ABC on the radio, yesterday morning. I listened to The Inquisition which ran for an hour, and guess how long they discussed the Freo v Brissie game ?. Clocked at 20 seconds !!!!, nothing to see here and moved onto another game.

Sure it might have been a nothing game in alot of peoples eyes, but for a national programme, how hard is it to alot at least 5 minutes to each game that has been played ?!!!!.

Ali paid for it though. Was in the hospital p*ssing blood for a couple of weeks after that. Tough b*stard... smart one too. He had the ropes loosened before the match so that they could flex further.

EDIT: Can't find a reference re: p*ssing blood from the Rumble. May have confused it with the Thrilla in Manilla.
