But of course the anti Eddie morons will claim its the greatest show ever no matter who was hosting as long as it aint Eddie

I am sure there are 100 other people out there who would a better job than Lyon

Give us a few names you think would be better suited.

Newman has always been the only one with any talent on the show. Eddie kept pretending to be a 'responsible' journalist and Trevor pretended to be a 'funny' comedian.

They should have made Roland Rocciochelli the compere. At least he's a professional. It wouldn't have mattered a jot that he knows nothing about football. This lot knows nothing about TV.

Edit: The Akermanis interview was nearly as bad an idea as the 'Ben' rendition. I blame the producer.

Spot on Gandaal, its back to being a footy show, not a variety show.

Lyon and Brayshaw have gotten better as the show has gone on, and I'm sure they will get better as time go's on.

Just as Eddie did 13 years ago.

Agreed.

The show didnt start flash..Brayshaw is way out of place and shouldnt be here (B Grade cricketer trying to fit in as one of the lads wears thin when Lyon has that angle covered...)

The talk was of changes - which apparently fat Ed had input to but its the same tripe......sams mail bag, unfunny Trev at the "bar", 3 footballers coming on after first half hour of dribble...blah blah....why not just have a panel (with all players on it from the start) that talks football?...leave out the comedy songs etc they are rarely any good (leave the skits to NSW Rugby....Vautin is at least mildly funny). To me they had a great opportunity and stuffed it up (Crawford is useless by the way...hes in Doug Hawkins land now and should be put out to pasture....he's a confused gender dancer not a footballer anymore....and Browne needs a mirror...Hird at least makes sense..)

I think it will get better and its better off without Maguire dominating......Lyon can at least bring some serious discussion on football....but there aint much change apart from 2 hosts.....one who is just happy to hang round ex-footballers...

The show got better when the players came out. Without them all 4 were not bouncing of each other and it was nervy. As the show went on and they relaxed more it was good.

Sam is so full of beans i actually like him when he is grumpy and all over the shop. It's like Eds left and he is now the senior. Watching the show at the end of last year and there def was something going on between him and ed.

Give it a few weeks though i agree JB should not be there or have a limited role.

The opening I must admit was funny.

Sam did a good job carrying it for the first half hour while Lyon and Brawshaw (god he look petrified in the first 5 mins) settled in. Turned out alright. Good panel.

It's poorer for not having Eddie though. Will be surprised if it rates as well without him.

Can't believe people on this board are actually saying that they miss Ed and teh footy show will never be the same! Have you guys been watching it for the last 3 years??!! There was a need for a change-up and they have delivered.

I thought it was a nervous start tonight but overall a pretty good show. Pre-scripted stuff was actually decent - compare to the "Whatever and Gun" that was showing last year -100% improvement, especially the opening segement with Sam and Trevor doing a James Blunt rendition. Jackson 5 sucked. But the interview with Aker was good i thought. Hird really put him in his palce (and Brown) and exposed Aker for the half-wit he really is. There was actually some decent discussion for a change on a very important AFL issue. The team run downs were also far more comprehensive than usual, although Crawford kept calling every player "consistent" or "inconsistent". There was probably still a little too much craming goign on for my likeing but i think that is always goign to happen with the number of games each week. As for the new men, Lygon and Brayshaw worked quite well, chemistry was lacking for a bit and they got caught a few times in pointless conversations with Sam but that can be ironed out. However, they managed to keep the show running and entertaining and shared the duties well. Trevor never was funny, so i can't comment on him. Sam cracked some nice gags but looked uncomfortable with the new guys at times. Once again, this is something that will come with time.

Overall probably a 6.5 out of 10 with a lot of potential and room for improvement.

I thought it was good. Not fantastic but what you would hope from the first week.

I got the impression from the first 20 minutes that JB, Gary Lyon and Sam Newman were finding it hard not to lapse into the 'Any Given Sunday' mode from last year. The sort of crap they talked about at the start (calling Sam a fossil, showing pictures of themselves modelling for a calender shoot) was exactly the sort of stuff they used to talk about on the Sunday show. Once they got the players out, it really got alot better.

And it was great to hear barely any mention about Collingwood and sponsers and whatever else Eddie usually constantly came up with that wasn't worth talking about. I mean he was a great host but sometimes he tried to push too many wheelbarrows at once. Even the talk about the tv rights was kept to a minimum, which I'm sure if Ed was there (being the good ch 9 boy he is) would've been talked about far more.

Must admit the second half got better. Instead of racing through the lineups they could have scrapped the skits and went for a bit of in-depth analysis. I rate Brayshaw and think he will improve.

There was footy talk last year. It's just that to most people, whenever Eddie went on about Collingwood, they didn't classify that as footy talk.

Also for anyone interested, the bit with Stephen Fleming launching into that ex-cricketer / reporter was apparantly all a 'spoof'.

The show was pure unadulterated boring crap.

It may not have been as good as it was in the last year or so, but tonights standard took it over a cliff to the bottom of an abyss.

Make the Sydney footy shwo guys look like Gold Logie winners.

Will Ed have the guts to chop the show mid-season. If that is the standard it is calling out for a screen and a shot gun.

Really?
The other other bloke was pretty good actor then,he looked speechless when he got ripped into.
Perhaps the NZ team should give a few of the footy show boys skit lessons if thats indeed what it was.

Overall I though the show was as good as could be expected,a few nerves but it will get better and better as the weeks go on,
Particularly when Jb gets more confidence to be himself and fire a few off in a later timeslot than he is used to.
