AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
I can understand injuries I can even understand loosing form
But I can’t hack being soft and god we were soft on Saturday night
I'd like to see Boyd (and to a lesser extent) Cross actually start to sacrifice their games for the betterment of the team. Boyd has gone head-to-head against the BOG in both the 101 point loss against Geelong and the QF loss against Collingwood - nowhere near good enough for a senior leader. Opposition coaches hate the ball being in Cooney and Griffen's hands, and actually structure up to make sure Boyd and Cross get their hands on the ball more as they are not damaging when they dispose of it. Boyd is getting regularly torched by his direct opponent because he is not putting in anywhere near enough defensive work, and his big numbers are masking what has become a major problem for the team. I'd rather see a 15 possession game from Boyd with serious intent to keep his direct opponent to a similar number.
I'd also like to see Boyd and Cross stop thinking that they are Simon Madden and go 3rd man up in the ruck contest every 2nd stoppage. All they are doing is making sure the opposition mids have the numerical advantage at the stoppage, which is why we got smashed in the contested possession battle by over 30 on Saturday. And on the odd occasion that they did win the hitout, twice they smacked it straight to a very grateful Dane Swan to effect the uncontested clearance
A bit of mongrel would be welcome but not the Minson 'give away 8 silly free kicks' kind. Hard body on the line stuff by all 22 players for 120 minutes will suffice.

Did you call SEN the other night? The caller mentioned the one difference between this team and the good team's you had in the 90's - Mongrel - Southern, Dimma, Libba, Jose, Kretiuk, Croft all had mongrel and the win at any cost mentaility. A couple of the above ex players would be handy right about now.
As a group they didn't achieve as much as our current group has. As much as our current side has been bagged, if we win this weekend we have the opportunity to play in our third consecutive preliminary final. No past teams have achieved that.
We might be light on A graders compared to the sides above us, but at least we are giving ourselves a chance(albeit an outside one).
What is wrong with you. Do you realise how much hard work these two do. These two had 8 and 6 tackles (pretty good defensive workrate i'd say) respectively on the weekend and i understand stats mightn't mean everything but perhaps if more of your team had a work rate and attack on the ball similar to these two youd be doing a whole lot better.
12 players (not all played poorly) had under two tackles on the weekend and obviously not all players can have high tackle counts but this number is way too high so to be singling out boyd and cross as poor defensively seems ludacris to me.
Fully fit you are the equal to any team this year - however the injury list is now beyond a joke and robbed this final series of 4 genuine flag chances. You have as many A graders as the Pies the difference is they have them all playing.
I believe the team from 97-99 and 2008-2010 are very similar. Even more so if the Swans get up this week. 2 Prelims for both periods.
H&A
97 - 3rd 98 - 2nd 99 - 4th
08 - 3rd 09 - 3rd 10 - 4th
Missed a grand final by 2 points in 97 and missed a grand final by 7 points in 09. 2 prelims - 98 and 08 not really in the contest. Of course if you win this week then things change slightly. Good luck.

I think the big difference between the two periods is the quality of the opposition. This year we have three absolute gun sides with good players down to about 25. Last year there was two gun sides and the year before as well. IMO the quality that we are competing against is so higher at the top end than what it was in 97 etc.
In 97 etc, there was obviously North Melbourne which was a great side with one of the best players ever in Carey. But besides that there were some good ordinary sides that made grand finals. Adelaide had some stars in Jarman, Rehn, McLeod but their bottom 6-7 were really ordinary. St Kilda were okay but nothing as good as todays top sides.
I think in some ways we have had a little bit of bad luck with timing. We have had a really good side the last three years, but the level of competition at the very top has been champion status.
Good post mate, thanks for the support - glad to hear not every north supporter hates us.I am hoping for a Crow's of 98 result for the Dogs. Adelaide smashed by 48 points in the 1st final - totally written off and then went on to win it.
Good luck on Sat night.
Don't think there's anything wrong with Sedat!, his post was sound and it's a knock that's been on these two players for a lot of the year. Go back to a game in 2008 at Docklands when Boyd was playing on Kerr to see what Sedat! is talking about.
