“I can guarantee you 1000 per cent I never gave them away or sold them,” the 81-year-old said.

“I don’t know how the hell they ended up there.

“I don’t want to see them auctioned.

“I’m going to take steps to prove that I’m the rightful owner.”

Stewie was a mercurial and brilliant player, and a left-field type of bloke. He was not one to hold conventional views necessarily, perhaps a bit eccentric and lateral thinking. After footy as a coach and admin bloke I remember interviews when he would say unexpected things. I always thought he was a bit short of a full deck, a bit like Sheeds and Mal Brown who all played together for a little while during that RFC golden age. What a set of oddballs, luckily Tommy could keep a lid on them. He was involved in uranium in the Kalahari they say.

Perhaps relevant to his brownlows, here is an extract from Wikipedia:

"In July 2014, it was reported that Stewart, who had settled in Woodend, had donated some of his football memorabilia to raise funds for local charity Artists for Orphans.[14]"

I understand his daughter worked in the UK for a while, and was occasionally visited by fam, perhaps some connection to his medals ending up there.

Happens all the time, I found a couple of Norm Smiths in the cupboard of my house.
The West Indies actually lost the Frank Worrall Trophy for a while when they held it for all those years, it was found in a cupboard at Wes Hall's mum's house.
