If you could draft one player from the 21st century who would you pick?

What 21st century player would you draft to your team?

If they were all lined up against the wall and we picked a team - if I start with Franklin my team can’t lose because he is that much better than his peers.

If you take GAJ - I’ll take Judd (or Voss, or Martin, or Danger, or cousins, or Bont, or……). If you take Scarlett - I’ll take Gov (or Rance, or Lake, or Stewart, or Taylor, or……)

If I take Buddy who are you taking?

It is the only position with a huge gap.

This makes no sense.

Him being that much better than the next forward doesn’t mean you win.

The hawks replaced him easily enough.

The swans didn’t get enough out of him.

Again, just to re-iterate, I’m not arguing that he wasn’t, at least, probably in the top two players this century.

I’m just a bit taken aback by the logic.

Agree in the sense that it should be a race between two players.

Its either Buddy or GAJ.

One could maybe make an argument for Judd (sans injury), Goodes (versatility and longevity) or N.Daicos (best of the choices who are still early-career).
Or if your team is bereft of leadership, a Voss/Hodge/Selwood type.
Pav with 700 goals an AA at FB and a pretty handy ruck rover might be appealing to some
Pav had 3 seasons ave 3+ goals 17+ disposals.
He was in a bog average team for most of his career.
Put him in lions or swans team now he’d go alright

Pavlich was an amazing player. We don't need the mayo of how bad Freo were.
He played 7 finals series, 15 finals total.

Lockett played 6 finals series, 9 finals total.

So we need to upgrade Lockett even more so if we do the same for Pavlich based on "being in poor teams".

How many finals did Fevola or Richardson play? Way less than Pav I reckon.

Please don't mistake getting offended with simply correcting a comment you made. I didn't get angry at it, but it was false. It's definitely fine to prefer others and I welcome you to it.

There are at least 5-10 I'd take before Martin and I wouldn't expect that to offend you.

That's ok. Why would you think I would get offended? You have your view on what makes great. I have mine. We don't have to agree. BF would be a sh1te site if we all agreed and couldn't share alternate views.

Where would you place Fyfe? Both Pav and Fyfe were great players.

I explicitly stated I didn't think you'd get offended. Why would you read that and assume I thought you'd get offended?

Remember, you were the one accusing people of getting offended in the first place.

I had to go with Franklin. He offers something others don't. If you don't get a GAJ, you might be able to fill the side with the next tier down and perform just about as well.
While mobile key forward is hardly unique, what Franklin could do in the position was. Its a threat no other team would have that cannot be balanced out by other picks.

For specific teams in specific circumstance, maybe you would go another way. GAJ or early-mid career Judd; or the flexibility of Pavlich or Goodes being able to get first rate performance wherever you need it most on a given day. However, for a general team in a normal situation, Franklin - even if at times in his career the important finishing could be a little bit off.

Drafting 10 players, keeping it to players with their careers essentially "in the bank" and excluding those with significant time in the 90s:

Ablett
Franklin
Pavlich
Judd
N.Riewoldt
Gawn
Dangerfield
Goodes
Bontempelli
Scarlett

FB: -- Scarlett --
HB: -- -- --
C: Judd Dangerfield Goodes
HF: -- N.Riewoldt Pavlich
FF: -- Franklin --
FOL: Gawn Bontempelli Ablett

In reality I think you'd sort out your primary midfielders, key forwards and best-in-class utilities first. The key forwards are so mobile you could have all 3, but also Pav could play anywhere. One key back would sneak in.

Next you'd start filling the flanks/pockets out which is where Martin, Enright, Hodge, Betts, C.Rioli, S.Johnson et al. come in. The second key back (Rance, Gov etc) and midfield depth (Pendlebury, Selwood, Petracca, Cripps) picks would be in similar spots.

How's the validation seeking of Richmond fans going Fadge? I suppose you have a table that proves Collingwood have 2 of the 5 best players to draft this century, and two dynasty teams have none between them. 🤣
Suggests I'm seeking validation in a post immediately following his own post about how he'd walk off into the sunset laughing when he drafts Martin and Rance with picks 5 and 9, who have a total of one premiership more between them, despite Pendlebury still playing and Daicos three years into his career....

I thought he deliberately did that 1-2 post as a comedic "irony level = 1000" joke at his own expense.

It's like the more he is accused of seeking validation, the more insecure he gets (hence doubling down on the validation seeking).

Well you are even more generous than the general BF population. I wouldn't even need a top 5 pick to draft the best big game player ever against you. 😎

But you are drafting the biggest squib on planet earth at pick 1. 🤣

You're the one who said you'd use picks 5 and 9....

I'm not expending any energy validating your claim.

3 flags to 4 currently. Let's see what the count is once my players careers are done...

Hang on, the currency is flags according to you.

My guys lead yours both outright & in flags per game played.

And you are using that to boast your pair are better. What a dead set spanner. 🤣

Frigging LOL

'Flags per games played'.

Oh my.

My guys have a combined 15 years of their careers remaining.

Happy to consider personal accolades as well. Mine will come out well on top.
