Scrap the pre-season, but let teams organise practice matches.

I know starting out this season, the pre-season helped in giving me an idea of what to expect for the season, posting wise. I remember who we played, Dragons and Demons.

I think 1 practice game is important for the influx of new players, giving them an idea of how the whole system actually works.

I disagree just purely on the fact that I believe it can take as long as 5 to 10 games before new posters start getting a understanding of the league and posting in match threads (unless of course you were recruiting from bay 13).

Also the practice games don't really help (I don't think anyway) because all the regulars aren't at the full capacity because they don't give a shit. I didn't want to post at all in the pre-season threads but had to because I was captain.

Well the current length is, for the most part, a function of playing 18 rounds in order to play each team twice. It we expand by two team that will either blow out further or we'll need to change the fixture to one where we play maybe 15 rounds and only play half the teams twice?

Either that or introduce a round robin to speed it up

Five week break between seasons. All Star match Two weeks before season. Mid season break of one week.

State of Origin can quite feasibly be run over a fortnight, if kept. Or can be cut down to a Victoria/SA/WA/Allies lightning round.

All enforceable.

* An extra week can be allowed for Expansion business.

I think it needs to be put to the vote.

I'd rather be playing real games that are actually recorded and worth something than 10 rounds of SoO and preseason which mean nothing.

I only participate because I always participate, I don't need an excuse like "because I'm captain" to get involved. I just go with what's going.

I agree. An exhibition All-Stars game is a reward and is a good addition. A four team SOO season can be run over 12 days (with four days each for banter).

It would work like this, or something like this (if I were admin :D):

Week post GF- Administration votes on Expansion This season only.

Week 1 of offseason- Club awards nights and free agency begins.

Week 2: All Star Match

Week 3: Four team SOO, four days allotted to each fixture (Captains of each team to be pre-determined a week prior and teams to be assembled by each teams captaincy group). Should purely be treated as exhibition only.

Week 4: SFA Team Submission (by the Friday of this week).
Exhibition matches to be allowed but they are to be organised by clubs personally and to be played out in teams pre-season threads.

Week 5: Start of Season 18

Two week break between round 11 and 12- Trade period.

The big pro is a streamlined pre-season with enough activity to keep players interested.

There will of course be pressure on captains to have their team running smoothly and also on simmers (but this can be divvied out to suitable applicants by admin). However, this is offset by grounding already in place.

For those of us that are new , what's the werewolf games/royal rumble about?

Shits and giggles.

Well worth you going back through the forum and looking at the last few times they were done (end December).

The werewolf game is pointless and unnecessary.

The Royal Rumble is a recent tradition to see who is able to banter the best amongst the best.

Games played during breaks.

Werewolf game doesn't have any relevancy but it's a bunch of people sign up to play, are given roles of mainly comprised of werewolves and villagers, and the villagers have to figure out who the werewolves are, by a daily lynching, before the werewolves kill them all.

Royal Rumble is basically a thread of all out banter. You represent yourself, and you aim to be the last man standing. There are generally 2 judges who eliminate people based on either poor posting, or someone smacked them in a battle of banter.

2 things you need to know; 1, Wise Guy Sam is always the werewolf. Don't believe his lies. 2, ClarkeM won the last Royal Rumble by cheating :)

You lot know some poster actually enjoy an off season to recharge during?
I was going to suggest at least the entirety of May, maybe even more, to recharge!

To be honest, if you need to recharge from just posting a few times a week then there's something wrong with you.

Why are you being soo disrespectful to a guy that goes out of his way each week to sim the games for us?

Get your head out of your arse.

It hasn't. It's 6 months as you posted there.

Time between grand finals.

Which would be nice but if we need to have 6 weeks for SoO and 4 weeks for preseason we wouldn't get in season per year.

Something has to go. Out of the 3 options the break with no games sounds the best

Season 15 GF Nov 12
Season 16 Round 1 Mar 13
Season 16 GF Aug 13
Season 17 Round 1 Nov 13
Season 17 GF April 14

Should a season take 9-10 months in an online competition?

Season 17 GF is actually on 27 April.

Season 17 GF is actually on 27 April.

Those are years. I couldn't be bothered quoting the exact date things were simmed.

Thanks for letting me know that though. I will mark the date in my calender.

April 27th Roys win premiership.

It's a nice idea but too short. A nice break between seasons is good to have, it gives everyone a chance to have a breather and have some time away from the game. The SFA is pretty full on now, people are on the go doing things all the time, whether that be posting, contributing to team threads, doing stats/admin work for the competition, media work or just contributing to the league in general.

Ideally we're looking at a eight week break which would see us starting the new season at the very end of June or at the beginning of July. All teams will need time to do their own awards nights and organise their squads over the off-season which can take time to do as people involved do need to fit these things around their own schedule outside of the game. There's also discussion to be had about expansion which could see two new teams coming into the comp, both of whom (or more if granted) will need to organise themselves for season 18. Then there is also the SFA awards night for the Mobbenfuhrer Medal and other awards which needs to be held as well.

I think the league in general has cooled on State of Origin a bit, it's not as popular as it once was and perhaps it needs to be held every second season. The last edition was okay but was fairly quiet and quite a few didn't have a lot of interest in the concept. The All-Star game was well received in the previous pre-season and will more then likely happen and perhaps even a Veterans vs Newbies game might even get a go as well.

Scrapping the pre-season competition and playing three practice games over two weeks might be a way to go as well. We all know that pre-season isn't taken very seriously here and the majority don't care for it as it's really just a training run. I dare say there'll need to be some discussion on that as well if there is room for change.

I reckon 2 weeks with no games. 1 state of origin game (East vs West OR Victoria vs Allies) <---- you save 5 weeks right there.

Would be super if 2 seasons = 11 months. Thus we can fit 2 seasons in per calender year. Mid January - Mid December.

Yes I know, contradicted myself in the same post ha!

Get your head out of your arse.

Re-think before you post. I wasn't talking about the simmer. I was talking about the others in the league that do nothing but post in match threads and other threads.

Once again, not the simmer. If I was talking bout the simmer, I would of mentioned the simmer.

Just in case you missed it, I wasn't talking about the simmer. As I know the work a simmer does to get the job done.

I like that bit. An intra-club match and then 2 practice matches I think would be nice, all over a 2 week period.
