If you're going to go through the pain of transitioning to a totally new game plan and lose games in the process...

Surely you do it with the new coach in the box so you don't have to go through the same pain again next year.

You'd have to think that Carr has some say in this plan.
As dumb as the administrators have been they're not going to let Ken come up with some revolutionary new plan on his final year. I know we think they are all incompetent but they can't be that bad.
It's much more likely that this is a soft launch of Carr's plan and it sucks.
This is just a symptom of the stupid handover and refusing to go through a proper process in recruiting a new coach with fresh ideas.
The process is pure avoidance of needing to make a decision, it's weak, lacks foresight and will result in us going backwards.

soneone else here wrote this tonight...

'Hard to believe a coach going into his 13th season has taken us into a season completely underdone.

We are not fit which is weird when you want change your game plan to a more play on and run style of footy. But that’s Hinkley.

The teams ball handling skills are at a school boy level.

We are completely underprepared for this season."

It's Ken's game plan.

They are that bad.

I don't even think it's the game plan. There's nothing wrong with wanting to run the ball and create scoring opportunities.

It's the part of going in hard against a team that wants to shut you down and match their toughness and you don't that's the problem. No game plan says to be soft downhill skiers, that's on the players and environment you create.

And ignoring 150 odd years of Australian rules football that says you won't win anything without good big men in key positions.

But yes, I agree with the opening gambit that if we were going to change the way we play, why do it in a coach's last year? Especially if it's going to change again next year. I expect Carr to put a strong defensice component to his game plan.

We hope it is but I'm not so sure
And if it is Ken, Josh needs to grow a pair or he'll have a lot to undo going into next year
What’s he got around him though
Chad bro
Cam Sutcliffe
Goldsack
A checked out Donuts

It’s not Primus era bad but it would be the weakest group of minds we’ve had since then

I think you’re right and this is Carrs model at least the mid forward transition aspect the rest though ? Not so sure ……yet

Hard to judge the plan, we have been so unsettled personnel wise, also transtioning in some kids and new players. Fitness however is not right, we dont look like we were ready to go.

Somehow Ken will come out good with all this. ‘Look how great Kenny was all those years’ - ‘gee Carr is not doing so well’….. you can see it now.

Ken might walk if he wants to keep his image.

Absolutely. He will get the 'AFL cycle' excuse. Never mind we have traded away our future for years to kick the cycle can down the road for a few years to save his 'legacy'

Maybe Josh’s ‘game’ plan is to have us finish our season as early as possible so he has maximum time in the offseason to implement his ‘game plan’ and footprint on this club, again?
He needs to put the whole footy department on notice and start interviewing new assistant coaches for next season. The current crop aren't up to it.

Whatever happens could Josh put an emphasis on skill development! No plan works if you can't kick, handball or mark under even the slightest pressure!

The problem for Josh is that he cant coach players that are inherently soft. You need to weed these players out and bring in competitive beasts.

The game plan is just a disgrace. Running in circles with short 1-2m handballs isn’t going to break the lines. Then as we’ve ran forward in a wave, once the ball is turned over our whole structure behind the ball is completely out of place.

If we’re trying to mimic the Hawks, we’re doing a terrible job of it. They move the ball with purpose and structure. Not just free flowing on a whim and running into trouble with every pass.

Their handballs go a good 5+m to create space and work the angles, we do the opposite. We handball short forward passes to a player that has to stop and turn to receive the ball which halts their momentum and they cannot see the approaching opposition, resulting in being tackled and losing the ball.

We don’t kick the ball to cut through the zone. We skirt around the back but have no forward movement until we just bomb it forward again.

It’s just as a terrible game plan to watch as we’ve seen the last 10 years and 5 different versions of it.

You cannot rely on running the ball by hand down the field. You need to be able to cut through by foot. Which we have completely failed at.

Shitshow at its finest.

Does the plan suck, or are we just taking time to learn it? I don't see a problem with the gameplan itself, we're simply executing it poorly - particularly when the oppo apply high pressure.

This is pretty normal, as players revert to what they're used to as soon as pressure is applied.

It sucks to lose, but if they feel this is the way forward, then it will be some short term pain whilst we adapt.

Let's be frank, a play on, run on, handball happy at all costs game plan completely validates the palpable lack of tactical nous our group of so-called coaches actually possess
Again - learning a new gameplan means players can "overcorrect" - is the gameplan to handball and play on at all costs, or is there more nuance to the instruction but the players are adapting?

We have been potting Ken for his game plan for years, so they make a change and we're complaining after 3 games.
