It's impossible to shake the feeling of impending doom that is this season. Loss of key players, coaching instability, horror fixture, injuries mounting. Finals already seem a distant possibility.

We have that every season and its usually fine until finals

Probably not looking great for us right now, but it's still February.

Fixture: it's a hard one but there are no guarantees the sides we are doubling up against will actually be as good as everyone is predicting.

Can the Hawks back it up? They clearly got on a run in 2024 that came out of the blue but things will get tougher this year for them.

Carlton's injuries are worse than ours. I've thought they are a bit overrated for a while.

I rate Sydney and i think they are the best team on paper but the heavy GF loss hangover has been real in recent years.

We keep waiting for that glorious day that Geelong finally fall off the cliff, i'm still clinging to that hope it may finally happen this year.

Adelaide, i honestly don't understand the hype. Yes they will no doubt improve but they finished bottom 4 last year, so they weren't just a little bit off the pace, they were terrible. Yes it could all click this year but i don't think it's a given. They are definitely overrated.

I remember last season arguing against all those that had Freo in their bottom 4, no one rated them but i thought they would make the 8 and they were on track all season until they capitulated port 2018 style to finish a disappointing 10th but suddenly they are in everyone's top 4 for 2025. It's all a bit confusing. On paper they look good but they were last year too and couldn't make the 8.

Yes the injuries suck, the Butters one felt like it tipped the scales over but i'd rather the injuries now then later in the season which has happened in recent years. The fixture early is kind to our pre season injuries.

And i don't think finally making the Carr succession plan public is going to impact our results as much as most people have predicted.

Usually that's footy gods hating us, by giving Koch an excuse to keep Hinkley before the real stuff matters. Now he's got an end date, it's almost inevitable everything falls apart this year. When we crash and burn, media and happy clappers will blame it on having a public handover date, as 'See how successful Ken was without one. Look at that H&A record!' :drunk:

When it comes down to it, there are two basic years at play.

Option 1 - Hinkley coaching out of his mind, which has never happened before, the boys gets on board and we win the flag.

Option 2 - Every single thing that happens is scrutinised by Carr to make sure he knows what he wants and needs for 2026. No matter what happens, good or bad, up or down, peak or trough, I hope that Carr is taking copious amounts of notes so he knows what he wants to ditch, what he wants to keep and what he needs to grab, in all facets of the club, players, coaches, boot studders, leadership material, etc.

Hearing Carr not answering Kane's call is just music to my ears.

Silver lining, Zac Butters bone bruising surely allows Mead to play his natural role and allows Richards to be an upgrade on last years Half Forward output from Mead. I suspect Richards would have claimed the role over Mead but with Hinkley you just never know.

I’d have Richards on ball.

Your silver lining is that Butters' injury means we get to play Mead instead of Butters. ****ing grim.

We should be getting games into Moraes ahead of Mead.

Need to think about the future. Mead has shown he is not up to it.

Ken will go out with a bang.

The one good thing that may come from it is Hinkley may leave earlier than people think, a secret departure game in victoria so he cannot get booed.

Big blow to miss Butters for the first 5 games or so. Positive is that gives JHF a run at being #1 banana in the midfield for a stint, might be the perfect chance for him to usurp Butters and Rozee as midfield leader. I'm sure he's hungry for it.

Weirdly now up forward is the only place we have decent depth; Berry, Richards and Powell-Pepper will adequately cover JHF's forward time and can also chip in with midfield minutes.
