Insomnia and Getting to sleep

If i sleep at my guys house on Sunday nights i find i get insomnia, it's so strange and has been that way for a year. Any other night is fine.

I read somewhere that sunday nights are common for insomnia. Try meditating.

Edit, i also bought a sleep cd because i was having too many horrific nightmares. This has also helped.

Bump.

Past 2 nights and I've slept about 3 hours didn't sleep at all last night I'm off to the Dr's today to get some more Stillnox which works I just can't seem to switch my brain off any more I mean last night I had that ****ing Friday song by Rebecca Black on repeat stuck in my head... yes that's what kept me up all ****ing night that stupid stupid ****ing song my eyes are stinging and I feel like shit it's no bueno.

Ok, so perhaps it's because i've only ever taken stillnox after extreme partying but those things make me believe I am having conversations with the furniture. :D Lots of fun but absolutely trip me out.

I try and note down everything that my mind clings to when I'm lying in bed. All the to-dos that I need to take care of the next day(s). It might sound minor but it helps a lot once that ballast is gone! And make sure you get up for that, too, and walk to a desk or table to write it down.

I also make it a habit to never do anything work-related in bed (some people do their paperwork or read their mail or study... just don't).

Observe diurnal habits. If it's only 1-2 times a week, start asking yourself what makes those days different from the others. Everything, even the minor things, should be taken into consideration (diet, exercise, work schedule, and the like). Hope that helped a little.

If all else fails I sometimes start reading the dictionary - not kidding. (However, I'll zone out reading any book after 2 pages, so that's always a good strategy for me ^^.)

I have two quick remedies that always work for me;

Cranking one out, very relaxing afterwards and takes less effort than waking the missus.
Listen to Moon Safari - Air: Great album, if this can't put you to sleep, nothing will. Be warned this may cause psychedelic dreams.

i HAVE an idea. Go to sleep in the opposite position you normally sleep in.

I agree with this. When I cant sleep I go and sleep in the spare room. Always manage to drop off to sleep straight away. Change in location seems to do the job.

Other ideas:

- Dont watch TV right before bed in a darkened room. Suppresses the body's ability to produce melatonin - chemical that makes you sleepy.
- Warm milo before bed
- Read for twenty minutes before bed
- Make sure your bed is where you sleep. Dont watch TV in bed, dont study in bed etc.

I used to have trouble sleeping but then just stopped caring.

I have the most erratic sleeping scheduele I of anyone I know ... I study and work part-time though so it fits into my lifestyle well.

There'll be at least one day a week where I work a full day on less than two hours sleep. A couple of coffees and it's not that hard, you'll sleep if you really need it.

I also get a strange sense of accomplishment in functioning on minimal sleep. It makes me feel alive.

We have nothing to fear but the fear of not sleeping ... itself.

Im like this. I used to be dead tired all the time when i worked during the day, could sleep for 10 hrs and still be tired. I now work nights 6 nights a week and vary the times i go to sleep and the night i dont work i stay awake all day and sleep that night. Some days i will be awake for 24 hrs and be less tired than getting up at the same time every morning. But the other factor may be that i almost never drink alcohol now.

A joint does the trick for me haha but if you're not a 420 type of person try some of that 'Sleepy Time' tea... not sure if it's placebo or what but it seems to work for me.

I am a shift worker who gets home around 1 in the morning. I would toss and turn till around 4am before getting to sleep so I went to the health food shop and got some Valerian tablets which seem to work for me.

Ive got these as well but find they only work for me if i use them sparingly.

Easiest way to get to sleep is to try and stay awake.

Heard this one a few times and it doesn't seem to work for me. I have the odd night where I can't sleep and end up getting only 3-4 hours. Personally I think this is worse because the body isn't used to surviving on such little sleep.

I need my 7-8 hours. I had 11 last night as the night before I only got 3.

I usually only get about 5 hours sleep a night. Im used to it. There was a stage a couple years back for about 6 months where I was living off 3 hours a sleep a night. Would get to sleep about 3:30 and wake up around 6-6:30 when the wife got up. This was when I was studying full time at home and couldnt even manage to sleep during the day.

I find tv generally works pretty well, so long as its the right thing. Might be stereotypical but golf works well. Not a lot of noise, easy to watch. Turn the sound down a bit and just watch and usually ill drift off and wake up a few hours later on the couch. Music is also good. I went from the age of about 15-25 putting a cd on every night. Electronic music is good as is ambient/atmospheric type stuff.
