Some pretty uneven matches.

Papua New Guinea defeated Nauru in the highest quality game of the day. Both teams moved the ball quickly and showed great skills with Nauru holding a narrow lead early on, however PNG went on to win 10.9-69 to Nauru 3.2-20.

In the other game at McAlister oval, South Africa were far too good for newcomers China winning 20.26-146 to China 0.0-0.

USA 11.6-72 defeated Denmark 1.4-10 and proved to be one of the favourites of the tournament, with the loadest roar of the day coming when the Danes scored their only goal. Great Britain and the Peace Team, consisting of Palestine and Israeli players played in front of a large crowd at Ransford oval. The Peace Team scored their first goal ever in the International Cup through Moshe Lagisa, however Great Britain proved far too strong winning 20.15-135 to the Peace Team 1.2-8.

In the other match Samoa defeated another first-timer to the International Cup, India by 110 points - 16.20-116 to India 1.0-6.

The third round of matches beginning at 3:00pm are South Africa v China at McAlister oval and PNG v Nauru at Ransford oval.

New Zealand proved far too good for a brave Japan, which showed plenty of enthusiasm but lacked a bit of polish. Final scores were New Zealand 13.13 (91) d Japan 0.2 (2).

In the other games Sweden kicked the opening goal of the match in their first ever International Cup game. Unfortunately that was their only score for the match, with Ireland winning 12.12 (84) to Sweden 1.0 (6).

Hot favourites Canada were far too good for another first-timer to the International Cup in Finland, winning 18.22 (130) to Finland 0.0 (0).

Doesn't that apply to most nations participating?

Not really.

Footy is a year or two old in China, India, Israel/Palestine, Finland and a little older in Sweden. Compare that to places like the UK and Canada that have amateur leagues in London and Toronto. In the USA there are regular intercity matches, 9-a-side comps and national championships annually.

Hence the inequity in the scorelines in the most of the round 1 and 2 matches as newbies get handed lessons by the old hands. Round 3 sees more even contests, on paper at least.

A good crowd today considering it was a workday. Would have easily been about 3-4,000.

Much more interest than previous tournaments.

Lots of support for the underdogs. Heaps of Japanese and Irish fans. Support for China was a little disappointing though.

Considering there are about 2,000 people travelling from overseas to see this tournament, I'm certain that if they played it at reasonable venues at night or on the weekend they would at least draw 5-8,000 which is nothing to sneeze at. I mean international rugby league crowds get barely that.

Still just can't get my head around the AFL's timing and organisation of the tournament ... but hey, I've already said my piece on the issue.

What pictures of Rugby ???

I can only see rugby league pictures... there is a very big difference...

Rugby is a wonderful game with a magnificent social culture surrounding it. The social and accepting nature of the Rugby community has allowed a lot of Australian Football clubs to spring up over the years...

Vietnam... China... Finland... Dusseldorf / Rheinland... the first German national team... etc. etc. etc.

... we have learnt a lot from them from their support, but also by joining with them in Rugby activities.

There is such a massive difference between the social, mental & intellectual characteristics of the Rugby community and the rugby league mob...

... as evidenced by the complete lack of Rugby trolls on this board.

Meh its all Union-League to me.

Is footy still banned from private schools in Sydney by those accepting rugby types?

Is that the best you have Black Falcon?

That's right Rooster. We in rugby league would never shot and kill our wives as happened in France with former French RUGBY UNION captain Marc Cecillon:

What's wrong Subprime? Aren't you proud of the British AFL lads? Man I'd love to see the Brits take on the Kiwis with their haka:D

Also do some research you will find the rugby union loving private schools today only ban RUGBY LEAGUE from their elitist culture.

Also Rooster the mental power being soooooooooooooooooooooo superior to us leaguies, I guess that's why you need ex-RL players to teach you how to play your oh so technical game. Just ask Shaun Edwards in the UK. Didn't the Waratahs have ex-North Sydney winger, Les Kiss as defensive coach?

I don't really care about the internicine goings on of the 2 rugby's. They co-operate when they need to and bicker for effect as far as I can see.

The pic of the GB footy side was on worldfootynews 3 days ago so you're not providing any new information.

Talking about something you know nothing of again huh?

And it's been on Total Rugby League for weeks ;)

go and have a look for yourself, its been on there for a week or two, not 3 days like you said.

Oh, and I don't care what you think of the other codes, all you need to know is your place, and that's last :p

The picture was taken on Wednesday last week.

Aussie rules outdraws rugby league, gaelic footy and canadian football by significant margins. If it doesn't outdraw rugby union, it goes close. So you clearly don't know your codes place or much else for that matter.
