There is going to be a real bitch fight and 38s pulled out, me thinks.

Original article from Washington Post reproduced in today's AFR.

President-elect Donald Trump’s former chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon is ramping up public attacks on billionaire Elon Musk amid an intensifying debate on the right about Musk’s influence in the incoming administration.

In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera this past week, Bannon said Musk “should go back to South Africa,” where he was born, and be denied privileged access to the West Wing. Bannon has also criticized Musk’s support for a skilled-worker visa program that led to a bitter rift last month between far-right activists and Trump’s tech executive supporters, who see the program as a crucial lifeline for Silicon Valley.
.....

Bannon told the newspaper: “Why do we have South Africans, the most racist people on earth, White South Africans … making any comments at all on what goes on in the United States?”Bannon added he would “do anything” to keep Musk out of the White House.
.....
Bannon told the Italian newspaper that Musk’s ideas are “really about the implementation of techno-feudalism on a global scale.”

The infighting is entertaining for sure.
Wonder how Bannon stands with Trump these days.

To double down on one of her earlier conspiracy theories Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga has suggested that "they" should use cloud seeding to make it rain in California to put out the fires, just like "they" controlled the weather to direct all those hurricanes towards the red states.

Yeah I heard that, what is it with all these idiot men, Gibson, Rogan, Elon, Trump, they'd all believe the same shit, and people buy it. Now we will have Dutton spinning shit for the Australian 'mob' for the election, he's already started. All lies and manipulation by social and main stream media for greed, money, power, nothing else.

The world went to left, now it's the rights turn. The place to be is in the middle but that's seemingly too hard, the world is too corrupt.

Oh so predictable...

Donald Trump taking credit for the reported ceasefire agreement between the Israelis and Hamas. This is the same plan that was put forward by the outgoing Biden administration in May last year.

Maybe Trump has a point? Maybe it took Trump's table thumping histrionics to get both parties to agree to a deal they could have reached eight months ago? Despite Trump's social media claims Netanyahu is still saying it is not yet a done deal.

It is a complex deal to be carried out in three stages and the world will wait and see if both parties keep their end of the deal. We will also wait and see Donald Trump's reaction if either party reneges on the deal.

Thus far I have only seen a figure of 33 hostages to be released. These will be women, children and the sick. I guess Hamas are not going to release all of the hostages any time soon as the minute they do they loose their bargaining power and give the Israelis a pass to seal off the tunnel network below Gaza. This is a deal that could collapse at any stage.

The more I look at the deal the more I think Netanyahu was forced into accepting it by Trump and maybe Biden. Apart from the 33 hostages to be released there is not that much in it for Israel. They will not be occupying Gaza and there are still the remaining hostages to be freed.

Ol Joe has been reading BigFooty...

The Israeli Cabinet has approved the ceasefire deal. This is a most welcome step in that it will put an end to the slaughter of innocents in Gaza. However, it is far from a long term solution and the only long term solution may be the establishment of an independent Palestinian State i.e. the much heralded two state solution.

The impasse is of course that a two state solution cannot happen while the Palestinian cause is lead by Hamas. The Israelis are highly unlikely to accept Hamas as the legitimate Palestinian Government and after October 7 who can blame them? Hamas is regarded by Australia, Canada, the US and the EU among others as a terrorist organisation and as such is unlikely to be recognised as a legitimate Government. Back in 2066 the Palestinians had the chance to select a legitimate leadership and chose a bunch of terrorists with the resultant desolation and mass slaughter of innocent civilians. There is every chance that in the lead up to the two State solution they will do the same thing again.

The problem for the Israelis is that Hamas is more than a bunch of individuals it is an ideology. An ideology that is dedicated to the extermination of the State of Israel. Benjamin Netanyahu's sustained attack on Gaza and in the West Bank will have done nothing to diminish support for the Hamas doctrine among Palestinians. Young Palestinians seeing their parents, friends and relatives killed and injured in Israeli air strikes will have nothing to thank the Israelis for. On the contrary there is every chance they will be driven further into the arms of Hamas.

The ceasefire and hostage exchange is a welcome step but is more of a respite than a cure.

A legitimate government is the one voted for by the people. HAMAS are no more ‘terrorists’ to those in Gaza than the Israeli military to their people.

Will Israel disband their protective ability for a two state solution? No, but they expect the people of Gaza to.

This is the stronger imposing their will, not the goodies beating the baddies.

Everything that is true of Hamas is also true of the Israeli government.

Summed up brilliantly. Thank you.

Hamas, and before them the PLO, have been an asset for Israel. They don't want a two-state solution. Having an enemy allows them to justify any and all actions to keep their citizens safe. This includes disarming and disenfranchising all Palestinian opposition, allowing them to continue building in the occupied territories, until such time as the "realities on the ground" makes a two-state solution impossible and all land is now Israel. And if you call them out you will be called anti-semetic. Case in point, Ireland. The crazy fundamentalist Christians, mainly in the USA but elsewhere too, are one of the biggest obstacles to peace, because they will support Israel no matter what they do. What's a hundred thousand dead Gazans in the grand scheme of Gods plan compared to other atrocities documented in their Bible?

Alas, you are probably right. The Middle East is full of intrigue. Politicians the world over, including in Australia, keep referring to a 'two state solution' but they never outline how they are going to get it to happen or what it will look like. In a recent visit to the West Bank Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong kept talking about a two state solution but was short on detail as to what shape such an arrangement would take. As you post the Israelis are not going to give up territory easily and it suits them to have enemies that prevent the the formation of a Palestinian State.

Any indication that the international community would be willing to even consider a Russian annexation of Ukrainian territory would serve as a strong indication for Israel that an annexation of West Bank territory is similarly plausible, once the right political conditions present themselves.

Comparing the Russian invasion of Ukraine with the Israeli occupation of the West Bank is like comparing apples with oranges.

If Trump (international community) is willing to approve russia’s annexation of parts of Ukraine then might Trump approve an Israeli annexation of the West Bank.
The equivalence is “annexation is acquiring territory by force and is a flagrant violation of international law”.

Australia condemns Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea and fully supports Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Foreign Minister Penny Wong has added Australia's voice to international condemnation over the Israeli government's decision to build thousands of settlement units in the occupied West Bank in violation of international law

How can Trump (international community?), who is happy to allow annexation, object to China taking Taiwan which is “an inalienable part of China”.
Not that I think China should “invade” Taiwan.

Also given Trump wants to re-annex Panama and buy Greenland (and reportedly annex it if he can't negotiate a price)

Trump/Israel will do what they want regardless of the situation with Russia/Ukraine.
