people who lose focus cause there's a fit female working out near or next to them
Fit females working out should focus your sets to try and look more impressive o_O

Semi-seriously though, I find fit females a good way to think about something other than why am I dragging my arse out of bed at an ungodly hour to torture myself?!

This morning two training buddies (they work out together nearly every morning) using the only 2 squat racks in the gym. I ended up working in with one of them but I still think that's ******* inconsiderate.

Its like some people are unable to think how their behavior is effecting others

trained around 10pm last night. surprisingly busy (10 patrons). was a nice night, everyone happy to say hi and have a chat. shared equipment.

wasnt annoying

I train at Doherty's in the City bw 4 and 6 am - there are about ten regulars then - its sort of like a team or something

37 mins have elapsed and still no sign of what this event entailed
whoops

When working at a pub not far away, I had been hitting Doherty's 3-4 times a week. It took a bit of effort but I was trying to better myself and had a bit of spare time in-between split shifts or before work to pump some iron. One day a body builder was doing a photo shoot in the gym, he stole the chain I was using for weighted pull ups from under my nose without so much as a crumb of a **** to give. I've honestly never been so angry in my life.

I gave the receptionist a piece of my mind and never went back to the gym again. This still angers me to this day.

tonight i was utilising a foam roller and foam mat. sitting on the roller and stretching my glutes at the foot of the mat, i noticed to the side of me a patron (drop crotch pants, long business work socks, flat brim cap worn backwards, bonds white t, who just rocked up. there was a stretching cage, he used it for chin ups. i continued rolling. next thing he walks my way, steps on the mat (behind me as remember im at the foot of the mat), and continues on away.

wtf??? all the space in front of me in the room, and he chooses to walk on my mat.

he looked around 19/20.

Not the gym but outside.
Someone yelled out YOU LOSER! while I was doing my nightly run.
He had a mate with him.
I gave them the bird, probably not the best thing to do with Gen Y-ers.
Gen Y-ers.

Do they come from another planet?
Not surprised. Back when I used to jog 10-12 km once a week I'd get a dickhead 18-25 yr old (always with mates), yell out trying to put me off at least once a month. Seems to happen to every runner regularly. I always consoled myself with the likelihood by the time they reached 40 they'd be fat and yelling out would classify as their exercise for the day.

i think gen Yers are like anyone older who were once upon a time younger. they mature and look back at some behaviours and wonder why they did that. for example, every gym has seen such "kids" crowd around the bench press smashing out reps acting tough. fast forward YEARS later when metabolism has slowed and the gut has formed. they will then focus on eating right, working out and perfecting form rather than showing off

It does depend on the person though, some people aren't built to go full ROM and are better off doing half squats.
There's no need to go arse to grass (unless you want to), but not even the bottom of the thigh parallel (let alone real parallel of top of the thigh) is a different matter. I bet 98% of the half squatters could go parallel if they put the ego aside and halved the weight.

Happened to me a couple of months ago. Ignore them. They're attention seekers so don't give it to them.

I can understand maybe young guys or novices being clueless but its pretty embarssing to see guys who have trained for a while performing this exercise.
Ive know bodybuilders to train partial reps as a part of their routine. Only moving the weight a couple of inches, they dont count reps, just keep going for 30-45 seconds, if they arent tired enough, up the weight. Its a legit training technique that will actually strengthen that end of range. And if you think about it, it is the most functional strength you will train, but if its all you do you end up moving like a tin man with no oil

when it comes to strength and boasting, is the deadlift the new bench press?

i was chatting with a few patrons last night, questions were asked about how much each deadlift. i found that they had large figures, 200kg. but found also that it was just 1 rep.

what should be the criteria?

Got to be at least 3 reps

Well it depends what you are testing. If you are testing maximal strength, then 1 rep is perfectly fine.

Yeh but you get no credibility boasting about your one rep max unless you are lifting Ronnie Coleman style weight. I want to know what you rep out with
